Next time, put the funds into an escrow bank account not to be released without permission of the customer.

Never pay a contractor up front. A REAL business should have working capital and line of credit. Former banker here.

@Hemorrhoid Infestation does Costco need you to buy items in advance to stock their shelves? No? They use working capital to stock the store.
Btw, even if you win in small claims court there is no mechanism to get the judgment money.
What real business doesn't have a line of credit to buy material and make payroll while waiting on accounts receivable.

Lol. Businesses will not put 15-30k of work and materials upfront in hopes the customer pays……..you are a banker……..not a businessman.
Best case scenario is a 50% before the job for materials and then 50% after job is completed. Easy peasy.
I own my own pool business for over 5 yrs now. Never had an issue like this. What a nightmare.

Contractor had a poor understanding of cash flow. It drug him to his knees. Next stop for contractor is bankruptcy and all of those annoying emails, phone calls and lawyers will go away.
Customers should fill their holes with water. Plant decorative plants on edges. Go to pet store and buy some exotic fish. After fish start thriving buy a couple of baby goats to keep lawn mowed. When goats age to adults start a weekly goat yoga class.❤

The city should start a list of deadbeat contractors for the citizens to avoid. After four years of pleading with the contractor we hired to finish remodeling the home we moved in to, we just gave up
