Groudon Costume- Work In Progress

  • Updates and the construction process of my Groudon Pokémon costume.
    This is definitely the most sophisticated body sculpting and foam padding I've done on a creature suit to date. Not to mention most expensive and time consuming. It will be covered in a soft velour knit fabric and will debut at A-kon 22 in Dallas, TX as well as being entered into the hallway costume contest.
    Features:Custom made LED eyes, hindged moving jaw, foam based extreme body padding.
    This costume is created for a legendary Pokemon cosplay group to be attending A-kon 22, Nan Desu Kan, and Animeland Wasabi. Other participants: Rayquaza built and performed by Starmuttani, Groundon built by CanineHybrid and performed by Rektheartist, and Kyogre built by DragaLegna03 and CanineHybrid and performed by Koosh-ball.

    @AQpizza Před 7 lety

    oh god i remember this, i made this 4 years ago for Halloween, i was 11 or 12. But because i had squeezed all of my timing within a month i didnt have enough time for the tail and back, si i made the hands (not as detailed as yours i ended up using red and white ductape) and the head. The tail i made using pizza boxes and lots of red white and black ductape. After i moved from where i made it we put the costume in storage, i hope to one day see it again when my parents take me back to open the storage container. this brings back memories, i loved how i was ale to move the jaw, i also had difficulty with the eyes, so my dad went to radioshack and bought me 2 flashlights in the shape of a ball and i colored over them in yellow and we attached the flashlight part with the actual bulb and used wires to make an on and off button. everyone was impressed, my whole neighborhood, school, friends and the whole community was baffled and amazed 4-5 years later and im currently working on a storm trooper helmet for now and plan on selling urethane plastic versions of the helmet im working on as im typing this ( was taking a break from hot gluing to look and see if this channel was still alive and IT IS!) Thank you so so so much for this video, although there were never any files for me to print out i ended p drawing the blueprints from pausing the video. I just want to say thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for getting me more involved in costume and prop making! ive always loved making my own Halloween costumes because i loved it when a project was finally done and i cold show it off plus i never liked it when my parents bought costumes for me. Thank you for opening my eyes to the world of possibilites of prop making! this video as my insipration to have the best costume and try something different from paper mache and coloring shirts, now im using expensive chemicals and tools to try and achieve relistic and accurate "Costumes" of my favorite videogame characters. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This will always be my favorite video on youtube. I encourage everyone to try and make this and if not this than make something you would never think you would be able to make and really think outside the box. i am truly grateful. Thank you CanineHybrid!

  • @CanineHybrid
    @CanineHybrid  Před 12 lety +1

    @DeadLikeMe1234 I first taped smaller pieces of paper together. I then took my foam mannequin head and traced its outline. I determined where my head should fit inside and drew out Groudon's head around the human head using tons of references of the character.
    Then as I needed to build each piece, I cut that part out and traced it onto the foam. I used an electric knife to carefully cut them out- it takes practice. Maybe the template pattern method simply may not be the best way for you to work

    its a cheap fabric she used to round off the foamwork underneath so the 1/2" that was layed overtop would be nice and smooth for the markings. doesnt matter what it looks like since its underneath.

  • @CanineHybrid
    @CanineHybrid  Před 12 lety

    @TheGreatCrow This costume was worked on over a period of two years and I invested at least 300 hours of work into it. The materials were somewhere in the $400 range maybe, but I honestly didn't keep track because almost most of that expense went towards all the foam I used in the costume.. and I had all of that on hand (I always keep a generous amount of it in stock).
    As for Rampardos and Aggron, my good friend ShaggyGriffon has created both those characters! Check out her CZcams :)

  • @CanineHybrid
    @CanineHybrid  Před 12 lety

    @Kukkuseli Vision is great actually! The backs of the eyes are blacked out so no light shines into your eyes. You cannot see directly in front of you through the vision screens, but you simply look down through the mouth to see where you are going instead. The vision screens on the sides offer great peripheral vision though :) Maybe I should do a Groudon costume overview view to answer questions like this I get all the time.

    @PBCOSPLAY Thank you very much for your comments!
    The fabric I used for Groudon is a "velour knit"- very soft, plush, and almost velvet, with some stretch.
    Yes, the structural part of the costume is all made from upholstery (polyurethane) foam.
    This costume is co-owned by a friend of mine whom commissioned me to create it- therefore we are not selling it at this point in time and I do not have future plans to create any more right now, but thanks for your interest!

  • @CanineHybrid
    @CanineHybrid  Před 13 lety

    @mewRasuberii Nope! But just in case, I painted the back of the eye black so light can't come though and blind the wearer. It only takes up a small section in the vision screen as well. There isn't too much direct forward vision but it does have amazingly clear peripheral. As far as vision goes, this one has the absolute best vision over my other masks so far. I highly recommend perforated plastic canvas for vision screens.

    @MsSkinwalker3 The black suit is often known as a dive skin, unitard, or catsuit. It's made from lycra/spandex so it's lightweight, breathable, doesn't hinder movement because it's so stretchy, very comfy, and absorbs sweat and moisture. It's great to use as a base for padded bodysuits because it allows you to attach foam to it directly and ensures it will stay on the portion of your body you intend it to. I buy mine online at Divers-Supply[dot]com, the "Sea Elite Sport Lycra Skin" for $27.

    @InsaneArrancar0 I tired purchasing a bit of el wire to test out the effect, and it simply wasn't bright enough... not to mention overly expensive for the amount that I would need and the driver powering the wire would have been much too noisy. So he shall have to live with piercing the hearts of his enemies using glowing evil eyes. And claws. And spikes. And teeth.

  • @CanineHybrid
    @CanineHybrid  Před 13 lety

    @TheZookyDragon I wish I was XD But I'm majoring in animation. Oddly enough though, animation plays a very big part in costuming: it's the illusion of life; making a character feel real.
    In costuming I'm just taking it one step further and physically bringing a character to life!
