- Easy rag quilt tutorial with cotton, flannel and cuddle fabrics. In this tutorial I teach you how to cut the squares using cuddle fabric and how I clean up the mess that cuddle leaves behind. I use my AccuQuilt Studio 2 and rag die to cut all of the fabric for my rag quilt shown in this tutorial. I use a combination of fabrics that I purchased from Joanns to make this adorable baby quilt. I am using 100% cotton, 100% flannel and cuddle fabric to make this quilt. I recommend washing rag quilts in cold water with a color catcher and drying on medium to high heat to begin the ragging process. Please note that the best fabrics for ragging are cotton and flannel. Cuddle and Minky do not rag like cotton and flannel, however, they do provide for a very soft blanket. Especially items that are being made for a baby.

Yea no cast. Love the video. Can't wrap my mind over cutting fabric this way. Seems like alot of waste?? Cuddle is like Minky. Messy. Don't know how I ever got my quilt done. Pins were almost 1/2 inch apart to keep it even. Love your quilt.

Hi Anisa, I love your making rag quilts and I have made some baby blankets. I just wander what stitch you did around the edge of this quilt. It's nice and a good idea to have different decorative stitches around the edge. Keep up the good work.
With minky cuddle fabrics after cutting place in the dryer WITHOUT heat with a damp wash cloth and tumble for 10 minutes. It stops the fabric from shedding and sewing area is much more happy and clean

PLEASE HELP??? I am making a minky and flannel rag quilt with each square having either 2 layers of minky and 1 flannel piece or 2 flannel and 1 minky piece. I desperately need help figuring out what is the best needle to use on my sewing machine for these 3 layers of fabric and what tension to use? My needles just keep bending. I am using an Organ brand 90/14 universal needle. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong? I am using a walking foot and I do not put any pressure on my fabric while sewing either. Please help?
I’m so sorry you’re having trouble. When working with rag quilts, I usually put batting in between the squares, however, it doesn’t sound like your layers are super thick and would be equivalent to batting in the middle. I always use a 90/14 needle when I work with Minky and Flannel. My suggestion would be to try a Schmetz 90/14 needle. I know it sounds crazy, however, I have found that by changing brands it corrects my issues for a particular project. Please let me know if that helps. Happy quilting! 😊
