As someone who goes to a high school where academic and advanced courses have the widest gap of difficulty between them, the 3.8 is completely understandable lol. Some teachers at my school just make it impossible to get As and have ruined multiple students in the running for valedictorian to the point parents have complained
nah high school easy, you just have to prioritize it and lock in during school and a couple hours after school. issue is that a lot of people don't rly care abt it until too late (happened to me) and they're screwed for college apps
high school can be really hard for many people, especially for those who found what they want to be in the future. For me, I used to ignore coding competitions for good GPA (because I genuinely thought I'm not capable). But when I found out I could win prizes (accidentally won a second prize and gold medal in citywide contests), it was really hard to balance between focusing for national contest and good GPAs. One might have to prioritize one, or have great discipline (its important but I'm bad at it :(( ) For an average person, many many late nights might be needed
And yes, the teachers you get are important too. I once get a dumb teacher who gives problems from topics that's not even in the official curriculum, and mark assignments he never gave. I honestly dont know how he became a teacher in my school (it was a prestigious one in my city).

My grades this term were all A's and A+s except for a single B+ in English.
I am lucky to have gotten that B+ as well she literally failed half the class and the highest anyone ahs got on any assignment so far was a 90%

As a gap year student, you cant just wake up and study for 10 hours for the fuckin sat. Ignoring the fact that anyone would burn out after two days of that bullshit, you have to be busy during the gap year with jobs or activities so that colleges know you’re not screwing around. In the end, youre basically as busy as a high school senior, just with different things to do

I love pratik videos, He always makes me laugh. But he also makes me realized how screwed I am jajaja. I'm from Perú (South america), I graduated from high school in 2021. My school didnt offer much oppotunities specially for usa standarts, No ap classes, few activitiess and competitions (specially international), I didnt even know what the hell was weighted gpa, sat, college essay, school counselor and the whole admission process until now(Here you just take an exam and pay). My grades were bad because I was too lazy and now I regret it.
However, I was never stupid, I took the chances I got or made my own. I'm a music producer and multi-instrumentalist completely selft taught, I made a podcast and shared news in 2021 about the lasting political crisis of my country. I won the entreprenaurship fair of my school, participated in debates, mun, sports, english certificates and I was know among my teacher and the school for that.
I want to study abroad because I wanna have those opportunities, meet people all around the world and be among the best. I'm aware that my chances are low but fugg it I can either try or not do anything

Hey sorry to respond (I’m not pratik obviously) but u think I can help a bit. I’m a freshman in high school, so not the same, but I know quite a bit about college admission since I’ve been seeing videos like this, and I also just go out and see college websites etc to find out more about them! I
You see the thing wrong with ur application (as pratik already said in the vid) is a few things. For the level of schools ur aiming for, 3.9 GPA is like basically the minimum! I don’t know how ur school works, but in mine, u need to get a grade of 90 or above to qualify for an A, which basically gets u a 4.0 UW gpa. This, to me, is very reasonable as even by paying good attention in class, you can learn most content easily, so I don’t really understand why ur struggling to even get a 3.9! Maybe ur school grades diff but that’s just my opinion.
Basically the best thing I can say is to make sure u have MINIMUM of 3.9 UW GPA. I currently have a 4.0 UW (4.6 ish W), and I don’t even study for much (ik I’m a freshman and not a junior, but that’s no excuse to perform badly)!
I have a lot more to say, but don’t want to make run on comments, but basically the idea (as pratik said) is to have a stellar gpa, 2-4 amazing extracurriculars (as in one’s that u enjoy and that ur very good at/you can win many awards/competitions etc), and also good essays and LoRs ( which u can honestly get just by being a nice person and interacting a lot with teachers.
@@advikthepianokid4583 bro what? ik most schools do GPA differently but a 3.9 UW GPA is not bad at all. If it was weighted then yea, a 3.9 really sucks, but unweighted thats literally all As with maybe one or two B+s. No college is ever gonna reject you for having one or two B+s on your transcript, especially if you’ve taken multiple AP or IB classes, or do dual enrollment. I would say anything above a 3.8 is decent enough, having a 4.0 UW is nice but it won’t make or break your application. Weighted GPA is far more important anyway, since it takes course rigor into account.

I once dreamt about those Universities. But after watching your videos, I think I should just give up on it. Because, compared to my background, extracurriculars like research, the Olympiad, etc. are not difficult, they are literally impossible for us. I wonder if any of my teachers have ever been involved in any research work. Preparing for the SAT and IELTS is difficult enough without any mentors or guidance and most people don't even know about those exams. I should just stop daydreaming.
the students who have crazy work experience and national level awards will get into these exclusive colleges, that’s true, but a lot of the students at Ivy League schools don’t have those awards or research projects - it’s at least worth a shot to apply! you won’t lose anything, and you still have a chance

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take! If applying is a financial burden Id think it twice but just keep pushing and working hard even if you don’t make it in the end at least you did the best you could. Doing all these miscellaneous things at the end of the day should be things you love doing not just things you rack up for college, that’s just a bonus :)

Hi preaching p I am in 7th and taking Algebra one and am the highest performing math student in my grade for my small school. Everything seems so complicated I wish I had a blueprint, do x get into this school. Although I'm learning that does not exist. I don't know if I should go to math camp to do a lot of activities, focus on my activities, or even if I should worry about this now. PLEASE HELP.
don't stress on the parts that do not count toward your GPA (best advice from my asian parents and many more people)
try to enjoy ur journey and don't sweat it
in the 7th grade, try mostly to gain a healthy mindset, MAKE SURE U GET ENOUGH SLEEP, focus on improving ur brain logic and thats basically it

some highschool like my hs which doesnt offer honor class(no 1.05) it just ap courses and regular(i think regular is just honor levels). It is a very competitive hs. so a lower gpa is understandable. some hs curve wayyyy too much. isnt college gonna take into consideration of grade inflation?

Perhaps not the best but you can definitely get a lot done in a year and your summer going into 12th. Join some clubs around a certain interest that aligns with your career goals or just a hobby and look to run for an officer position. You can easily pick up some volunteer opportunities just by going through the internet about your local area. Summer you should be pushing out those college apps but atp it would be good to have something, perhaps a regular part time job (which you can do junior year as well).
i hardly think explicitly shaming a college student's application essay is anywhere near helpful or necessary

Listen buddy I’ll send you a decent one I think I got an interesting story. I was tested a few weeks ago I got tested for my reading, writing, and grammar. My results came back with some really low scores. I earned a 2nd percentile reading comprehension. Right now my worst part of my application is my ACT. I have not taken it yet. I am hoping to get 33 or 32. I have scored multiple 36s on practice test for math and my other scores are around 30s.

Hi, so I live in a country and study in a school that does not offer AP exams. Calculus is not part of the high school curriculum here either, but I self studied for AP Calc BC and got a 4. I want to apply to MIT, but it only credits 5's. Should I send it in to show them that I challenged myself or not?
