This was so informative . . . Thank you! You can still buy Foxboro 43AP controllers today. There are many companies that prefer these controller types in hazardous areas (i.e. -- areas where combustible gas or dust is present) because they trust pneumatic controllers to be more safe than electronic ones. When you install electronic controllers in hazardous areas, you have to run I/O wiring through explosion proof conduit, or install the controllers in air-purged enclosures, or perhaps wire controller I/O through intrinsic safety barriers or isolators. The rules and regulations to follow, not to mention the expense in using explosion proof conduit to run electrical wiring through hazardous areas, make Pneumatic Controllers a much more attractive choice to certain manufacturing companies.

And we had the honeywell electronic! Tube amplified multi channel recorder. With stamp mechanism. Very good stuff!
In the past the instrumentation engineer had enough on one screwdriver! And some wrenches for repair and some adjustments. Nowadays you have to have the specific software and a laptop and the specific cable for the instruments. Not everything has become better!
