- Episode 5 of the Final Season adapted chapter 100 of the manga, which many people have been looking forward to for almost 3 years now. Sadly, for me personally, the anime didn't quite live up to the hype of this scene - mainly because of the OST (2Volt) the sound director decided to use here.
For a few weeks now, an edited version of the OST from the Final Season trailer and the first episode of the Final Season made its rounds on the internet and many people thought something similar would be used for Eren's transformation.
The extremely talented Samuel Kim made this arrangement, go check out the full version if you haven't already.
I edited the scene from the episode to have Samuel Kim's arrangement and i also added another scream for Eren's titan. Hope this feels closer to what you have expected originally.

Didn't expect this to blow up, so want to add something and set some things straight.
The OST in this video is NOT OFFICIAL, it is a FANMADE rendition by Samuel Kim (read the description of the video) that uses the OST from the trailer of the final season. That song was also used in the first episode of this season.
MAPPA is NOT in charge or to "blame" for the music that was used in the actual episode. That was the sound designer's decision, which is still the same person that picked the music for the previous seasons (Masafumi Mima, if i am not mistaken).
Please don't send any hate towards him or studio MAPPA, they did a great job with episode 5 and i understand why they chose 2Volt at the end of it. Eren's transformation is supposed to be a sudden turn of events without a long-build up.
I made this video because PERSONALLY, i had different expectations after reading the manga and because i really enjoyed Samuel Kim's arrangement. I expected this episode to have a similar impact as episode 6 of season 2, in which Reiner and Berthold transformed. YOUSEEBIGGIRL made that scene iconic and until this day is my favorite scene of the entire series. Chapter 100 (Declaration of War) had a similar impact to me 3 years ago when it came out in the manga, so of course i set my expectations way too high. I made this edit mainly for myself and for other people who felt the same.
Also i changed the title of the video, because it isn't my place to "fix" something and i don't want to contribute to MAPPA getting more hate for this episode, because it was great despite everything. They really don't deserve it, so please be kind.

Edit: Yes i am aware that i didn't do such a great job with this edit, i literally just pasted the music over the episode very shortly after its release. The timing isn't the best the video quality is lacking, it's a bit too loud and honestly, i just happened to be lucky to get this many views. IMO, this exact OST will play on the next episode when the destruction of Liberio scene lasts longer, if the directors decide to replay Eren's transformation and continue the scene to show the state of Liberio after that. I think it fits better that way because the rest of the OST sounds tragic and feels appropriate to represent devastation.
While 2Volt just builds the hype and ends sooner to mark the end of the episode, cue the "to be continued" card.
nah, doesn´t fit the scene at all, considering eren still its talking and the viewer still its left clueless about whats eren next step, this would be an absolutely terrible choice of OST because of pace. making it "le super epic" its not good audio design.

People needs to realize that the reiner bertolt reveal was like a betrayal one that was unexpected. This scene was a proclamation of war so the OST fits more although I can agree on that they could've used better OST but... It is what it is

This OST really does fit better, there is no denying it. Eren is about to commit war crimes, him and Reiner reconciling and him kinda forgiving him and understanding him for his past actions, a sad, melancholy yet tension filled ost is what you need, not a heroic OST like 2volt, the one the anime used.

I don't really hate the original OST they used, but damn this is so much better. If they used this, the scene could've been on the same level of hype as Reiner and Bertholdt transformations.

2volt does have the calm tone fitting for the unpredictable factor of Eren's calmness, but the moment Eren transformed in front of Reiner, the OST should have kicked it up a notch and make that moment more grand just like in this video. There's no uncertainty that time. Transforming right in front of Reiner, everyone knew Eren's gonna fuck shit up in that moment.
But in reality, there were only drums sound when Eren transformed. The OST only kicked it up again when Willy was surprised by Eren.
They used 2volt accordingly for the tense discussion between Reiner and Eren, but not for Eren's transformation.

And you know what I find very interesting in this episode that when Willy declared war against Paradis , at that time all of the audience was cheering, clapping and were very happy but when Eren attacked them then they started running, I mean WTF, you were the only guys who were happy about war and now when it started why are you running, go and fight, this was the only thing which you wanted just some seconds ago.

I watched the two versions and i came to this conclusion : the original one fits better with the intention of the episode and its atmosphere. This one is more epic but doesn't fit with the buildup of the episode. The sadness and the depth of Reiner's confession were perfect without any music and it shows better the coldness of Eren's mind : no more epic music, no more songs, just war. And war is painfully silent.

I highly believe that this scene will be re-used in the next episode with this ost. Doesnt this happen oftenly with anime in major scenes that end as cliffhangers?
It's just the OST fitted as an end for an episode. The current ost in this vid suits as an OST at the start of the episode or amid, to have us all tense and stuff. If they re-use the scene with that ost, it will be amazing.

I understand why people wanting youseebiggirl or any other ost but I feel that the ost used in the anime suits better to the "Declaration of War".. Like I (Eren) will now declare the war... I will move forward (basically suiting with the opposites between Willy and him) Also to point out.. It's supposed to be a cliffhanger and a unexpected sort of transformation for the people and obviously the music sets in beautifully in the ending cliffhanger of episode and there's a full chance of having a different ost next episode for the same transformation.
That's what im saying. if you're a non-manga reader, watching this scene with the other OST that people are using makes it pretty obvious that something is going to happen. If you know that eren is going to transform then obviously these OST would make more sense.

Edit: actually now that I think about it I'm not sure, yes this arrangement by Samuel Kim sounds awesome and it fits thematically but it also has alot of buildup, which detracts from Willys speech and also doesn't make much sense when you consider that Erens transformation here is very sudden, we saw it coming but it was sudden nonetheless. I like this version and the original equally now, good shit either way

Music is basically a character. How well or poor it impacts a scene only goes to show its effect and importance
Audio is crucial. The cinematic experience is more affected by bad audio than by bad video. It is just a scientific fact.
Because what? The scene was awful? I feel the only people that are really complaining about the OST are manga readers. You know, people who knew what would happen and therefore wanted an OST that would build on their knowledge. But the anime was made for people who didn't know what would happen. The OST would have spoiled the ending before it happened.

You don't want an OST that is good for someone who sees the scene for the first time, you want an OST for yourself, someone who wants to relive the scene another time. These are two completely different audiences and it just shows that you don't even think about people who might not have read the manga. I mean, you didn't need an OST in the manga for it to leave a huge impression, didn't you? So how is this OST destroying the scene? The answer is simple, it isn't. It is just destroying your idea of how you wanted to relive the scene.
War is not as heroic as the original one may sound, but it sounds as horrifyingly as this does.

IMO, at first I also hated the original OST in this scene, but after rewatching it, I think it's way better, especially for anime-onlies. The buildup from the OST from this video (and also YSBG) makes it obvious that Eren will do something big, which takes way from his unpredictability during the entire episode. Manga readers love the scene with this OST because they know what is going to happen, which makes it more epic overall. But honestly, what I loved about Eren in the manga when I read these chapters was exactly this: his unpredictability.

i feel like they would, considering the MASSIVE feedback on 2volt being used instead of this (declaration of war), or any other dramatic ost. i'm guessing maybe they'll reanimate the same scene from a different shot, or they'll put the same scene with additional shots. ESPECIALLY since we ended on a cliffhanger.

If they used this soundtrack, it would be very imminent that Eren would transform at that very moment. But they wanted Eren's transformation to come out of nowhere, seemingly unexpected that's why they chose the soundtrack used in the original version
There's a Marleyan platoon approaching their meeting place in the first few seconds of this video, from that moment onwards it's obvious Eren's gonna transform. He's not gonna give himself up and he's not gonna fight his way through a platoon in human form.
Nah that's not a good reason because warhammer theme can be used even in less than 30 second scene unlike YSBG which is require more time to build up the scene

Yeah sadly. I hyped myself up watching so many fan-animations and some of them actually were very well made. This one fan-animation included Eren's titan face just before he transformed kinda like Reiner nad Bertholdt when they revelaed themselves. That was amazing. I can't believe I'm saying this that fan-animation did a better job of portraying the manga than MAPAA. Just my personal opinion but I know MAPPA is still very good. I'm sure they'll blow us awway with the next episode.

@@minnan93 the reason Eren showed Reiner his cut hand was to make sure Reiner didn't try to run away or alarm any guards. It was a "listen to what I have to say or I transform right now" type of warning. So it was to display that it was a possiblity that Eren could transform at any moment depending on how the conversation goes.

This OST is too epic and enjoyable for what is happening. I know it’s sounds good but this is fan service and I don’t want it. Eren just transformed and killed innocent families, this is a declaration of war, this is Eren betrayal against us and against his own island. This ost is amazing but this scene is too dramatic to have some epic ost like if it was heroic ... Mappa knew that they had many ost choices, but they didn’t picked the most epic one because it will come later for a more appropriate scene !
the original ost had no build up or change in feeling, plus it didn't help that i could barely hear it in the background. this moment was supposed to mark a shift in the season, and music plays a heavy role in that

this soundtrack fits the episode title "Declaration of War" and the drums fit perfectly with the episode's theme. if they used YOUSEEBIGIRL, it would not be appropriate because it depicts the betrayal of Reiner and bertholtd that had become his trademark. and fans' expectations that are too high destroy the comfort when they watch this episode
