    The Half-wave rectified RMS value in the matrix at 01:41 should be Vp/2 instead of Vp as shown.

    Excellent video! I have this meter and a con for me is having to disconnect the leads from the meter in order to use the clamp for reading current. Do you know why this is necessary?

    • @TheTechCircuit
      @TheTechCircuit  Před 10 měsíci

      I've found that not to be the case with my Klein CL800. I can measure current through the clamp with or without leads connected. In fact, the leads play no part in the current measuring circuit.

    • @J-Jim
      @J-Jim Před 10 měsíci

      I rechecked this. If the common lead is attached, I see no difference. If the hot lead is attached, I get different voltage readings. If the hot lead is connected to a 120V source, the reading is significantly different. I get the same results with my Ideal 61-757. In fact the Klein manual, states to disconnect the leads when using the clamp. It does not state why. I would think that the lead sockets would be 100% decoupled when amperage is selected. My only thought is that in some advanced HVAC meter models, one can get milli-Amp reading through the leads and higher Amperage readings through the clamp. Some circuitry may be shared and therefore the socket isn’t decoupled on those models. Those same base boards might be used on the non-HVAC models without that functionality, bit with the same coupled socket?

    Sorry to add another post, but the same issue with the frequency setting. Can’t get it out of auto range setting.

    • @TheTechCircuit
      @TheTechCircuit  Před 6 měsíci

      I believe there is no manual ranging for frequency and capacitance. In my experience, the range feature only works on voltage (including LoZ) and current.

    I have a question. I just got one of these and would like to use it to figure out the length of some spools of wire we have. They are 750 mcm and were 1500 foot originally. There is still quite a bit left on them but the last guys to cut them didn't mark how much they cut. is it possible to use this mm to figure out the length? if so, what settings should i use? Thank you.

    • @TheTechCircuit
      @TheTechCircuit  Před 6 měsíci

      You can use the resistance setting along with the specified ohms/foot of whatever material they are made of (assumingly copper). Take the measured resistance in ohms and divide it by the ohms/foot for that type and diameter of wire and that will give you the length.

    Beginner question resistance. The Klein "injects a constant current" to be multiplied by the resistance to determine volts. What value is used for the "constant current" in the calculation?

    • @TheTechCircuit
      @TheTechCircuit  Před 6 měsíci

      Great question. It varies depending on the range. I don't remember the exact value per range, but it's easily measured. Higher resistance ranges use a lower constant current.

    I am a little confused. You said in the CONs that there is no In Line current measuring. But isn't that just what you are doing at 0:38~1:02? I just don't get it ( I am am an amateur, sorry....) Or did you mean that you have to measure an line that you cut and then hook up to the leads? And that that is not possible with the leads?
    Does the CL 900 e.g. does that?
    I am just confused. Sorry and I hope you can help me out. Great video btw!!!!!!!! Simple and very instructive.

    • @TheTechCircuit
      @TheTechCircuit  Před rokem +1

      Hello. 0:38 -1:02 was voltage measurement. Not current measurement. Current measurement is covered in 4:49 -6:10. Current measurement for the Klein CL800 uses electromagnetics (for the clamp) for AC current and a magnetic sensor (Hall effect sensor) for DC current. With in-line current measurement, which this meter does not employ, the meter is inserted within the current path. Then current flows through a low-ohm resistor (shunt) within the meter, where ohms law is used to calculate the current.

      @@TheTechCircuit I understand! Thank you. Did you discover a clamp meter that can do in-line current measurement?
      Thanks again. I learned some things that has bugged me fore ever. I am a wood-man. Electricity is pretty difficult for me.
      Have a great one!

    Maybe you can answer this question for me. I just purchased this meter and I’ve noticed that when set to measure capacitance, the display shows 0.00nF and the range button does nothing when pressed , the meter beeps , but still displays auto range and still shows 0.00nF on the display.Just wondering if I have a bad unit or does the range button not do anything on the capacitance test. Looking at the specs, it looks like it is supposed to work, and it works on voltage and resistance settings. Thx.

    Good day , can the cl800 clamp meter measures in-rush current and is there a min-max mode on this clamp meter.

    • @TheTechCircuit

      Yes it has a min/max function and I have successfully used that function to measure inrush current.
