- A family was on the way to Disneyland for vacation when they experienced a nightmare on their American Airlines flight. Their 9-year-old daughter ended up being filmed while in the bathroom, and cops say the camera was planted by a flight attendant. Ann Mercogliano spoke with the girl���s mother, who wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter���s identity, by phone. The mother called the flight attendant a ���monster.���
A 9 year old should not be expected to anticipate a crime like this. What a deplorable defense. Absolutely disgusting.
I think they were the lawyers the predator hired to pin the blame on her. He not only violated a child's privacy, which is a massive sex offense, he's trying to find loopholes and technicalities to delay a trial. He is a sociopath and cannot be let out in society ever again.

Basically what they said in their defense was this. It's because the toilet was damaged and it needed a recording device for safety reasons. It's allowed because they expect you to recognize the safety problem before you drop your trousers or knickers. The camera can alert the crew of an accident, like if someone gets their head stuck in the toilet bowl.

@taralang7812. A light doesn't always mean a recording device. Sometimes it's just part of the lighting system. Plus, who would think a lighted seat meant a recording device? A child or adult may think it's some sort of nightlight or auxiliary light.

The fact that they’re gonna blame it on a nine-year-old girl is outrageous. If this was my child, I would be suing the airlines.
I would not only sue for as much money as possible, but I’d try to rally for a national boycott against American Airlines and not give up until they were out of business or bought out by another airline and the current CEO was gone. That’d be a serious wake up call to scare businesses into not publicly making absurd statements or insults like this

1. First of all, if the bathroom was out of order there should’ve been a sign on the door that said so.
2. Second of all, if it was out of order, the flight attendant should have been able to redirect the child to a working bathroom.
3. Third of all, why in the blue skies, was there a phone recording in the bathroom in the first place?
4. Finally, the flight attendant is a monster and a creep, he should never be able to be a flight attendant ever again. And there is a special place in hell for him. I hope the little girls family sues the airline and that flight attendant separately. Justice for the little girl.
okay to answer some questions.
the girls were all flying coach. flight attendant, out of the goodness of his heart (not really) told them they can use the first class bathroom instead, but the seat is broken and he has to go in first to wash his hands. then he taped the phone to the seat with the stickers (seat not actually broken), recorded 🤮, and then went in after the girls and removed everything.
It wasn’t out of order. The perpetrator wrote a note with the expectation the next user would have to stand and urinate …
Regardless, he know what he did was wrong and all he wanted was to satisfy his sick fantasies. The family and the little girl deserve justice. The family needs to sue him and the whole entire airline for allow it to happen.

The statement AA initially came out with blaming the girl made absolutely no sense. How they could even consider defending a phone recording in the bathroom and a pervy employee is disgusting. No one in their right mind would think up their statement, even crazier that they posted it.

How is a 9 year old supposed to understand this. At that age I was still so innocent and naive your just a kid at that age?! The only one at fault is the flight attendant who took avantage of that innocence, and did that to her.

They couldn’t spot it you see what had happened was he actually spoke to them the people he recorded I meant and told them even tho the bathroom was out of order it really wasn’t they could use it after he went in so he went it set up the camera and whatnot recorded them then took it down so nobody had any way of possibly finding it

Airplanes have small lights everywhere. I would've thought that the toilet lid had a light that illuminated when the lid was raised. Especially at 9 years old!

I will never use them again. I fly alot and the only domestic airline I can still tolerate is Southwest. For international travel I will use EVA, ANA, Singapore, or Copa.

Looks like he was trying to record anyone who entered the lavatory, and that included a 9yo child who happened to enter to use it. He likely has multiple recordings of all of those who used that lavatory. Sick perv needs to be prosecuted to the maximum the law allows.

I flew American Airlines to South Carolina to watch my brother graduate from Navy School. The flight attendants were all so nice and friendly. They gave us cookies. They didn't even film me in the bathroom.

On official court papers it says that when the girl was about to enter the washroom, the flight attendant told her to wait so he could clean a mess. He came out a few mins later and allowed her inside. Which means he wasn't just recording anyone who went in, he specifically targeted a child.

In another report it said that the phone had images of other underage kids using the restroom too. I'm hypothesizing that he would see the kid come up, tell them to wait so he'd "check" the room, then when the kid was done he'd go in and retrieve the device before an adult would see.
