    This unit was over 40 years old, we installed a double dumper and a quad dumper at this same location since this one went in over 40 years ago. That quad dumper moves some coal!!! It positions the cars very fast and without unhooking it dumps 4 cars at once and indexes the next four for dumping

    You can unload them faster by playing back at 2x speed.

    Ok so I understand this is of an 'old system' now replaced with 4-car dumper/s. However, I wonder if there also has been a better way to completely empty these coal cars? If you notice there is a good deal of coal left in the bottom of the car, which, over may cars, can add up to quite a waste. So, do the newer dumpers have a vibrator, water spray or something that would cause most of the coal to fall out?

  • @JungleYT
    @JungleYT Před 3 lety +2

    So, the water just washes off the one side or lip where the coal dumped over?

    Is the water a way to put out accidental fires with the coal after all the static energy transmission from the dumping?

  • @MusicEchos

    My job had me out at a power plant south of little Rock one night. They had a coal dumper real close to looking like this one. The main difference was the sound was tremendous! It was faster too. It seemed like it only took 3 seconds to turn and dump then 2 more seconds to return up right. It had a building around it so the sound probably was amplified by the metal walls and ceiling.

    • @jacopick123

      rotary couplers

    • @carmium
      @carmium Před 8 lety +5

      +DeusXDebauchery They're called *couplers*. At one end of each car is a rotary coupler, meaning the car can rotate around it while it stays coupled to an adjacent car. Usually the cars have a colored band on the rotary end, and it is essential that one of these bands be located and each end of the car being dumped; normally, at the same end of each car in the string. I don't see any color-coding here, but this is Colombia, and they may do things differently.

      I went back and watched the video again after reading your post. It says "Rotary End" on the side of the car and it looks like the rotary coupler is painted red.

    • @sashimiturtle
      @sashimiturtle Před 7 lety +4

      We have the same type of rotary dumper at the plant I work at. The ends of the cars are painted red or green where the rotary coupling is. As long as all of the cars are pointed the same way, you can dump an entire train without having to uncouple any of the cars.

      It doesn't couple and uncouple the cars. That's the genius of the thing. The dumper rotates *along the centerline of the couplers*. The couplers rotate, so they can stay together. Very efficient!

    2 dudas! Como los desenganchan y enganchan de anterios y enganchan con el de adelante, pues no se ve a alguien hacoendolo y no he visto, que los trenes se formen empujando los vagones unos con otros, y la linea de aire? La otra, al voltear el vagon queda material compactado en las esquinas y a lo largo, al dumper le falta vibrador! He visto unos gringos que si lo traen y queda limpio el fondo.

      It doesnt, one of the couples is a rotary coupler. If you look when they move the airline is also hooked up the whole time. so they constantly connected.
      Watch around 2:10 you can see only one of them are painted of the two indicating its different then the other coupler.

  • @genesis1177

    How does the machine dump each car without twisting and breaking the couplers off at the end of each car? The couplers are locked in and they are not some circular ball joint that can spin or stretch like rubber. I don't get it.

    • @memphiscoe9410
      @memphiscoe9410 Před rokem

      So in this case the couplers actually can spin. They’re known as rotary couplers and they’re designed to let the car be turned while staying coupled to the other cars. This is also why the air hoses are longer so that they can stretch so far
