Open AI’s new robot was released and some people are claiming it is already better than the tesla bot.. but could that actually be true? Let us know what you think below.
The robot viewed as "better" will be the one that brings the most good to this world.

There is a major difference that is not mentioned. Optimus and prior version of Figure are self-contained. It can do useful work, not connected to the internet. Figure's robot connects to Chat GPT through the internet and this is well done, but the "brain" is now a billion dollar super computer, not contained within the body of the robot.
Tesla robot can see. Musk solved computer vision. Who else has done this?
Optimus has a job already.
Five years from now we'll look at this and think, wow these robots were bad.

I think all companies hit somewhat of a wall. They got the walking and movement down somewhat alright. (easy part) But the thought process of any robot that currently exist is a long way off...not even close. None would help me/consumer in their current state. Slow as shit as well, I'd rather do it myself.

Anyone can use the open AI API, including Tesla. Getting a robot to have conversation with you is supported by many LLM‘s right now. The bigger question is to be able to understand your environment understand what’s being asked, and then take actions accurately. Tessa necessarily disclose everything they’re doing so we will wait to see what they come out with next

Prototypes are easy. Production is hard.
Yes, you can see that Optimus is far more refined than Figure Optimus is designed for production. Figure is proof of concept.

@@mackan7086 There are a few Figure 1 robots being sent to BMW and they will be evaluated and trained at the factory. But that does not prove that Figure 1 is refined and ready for major roll out. Tesla is doing the same thing internally.

Training Optimus conversation based on interaction under X may not be the best model to choose. Unless would like to see two Optimus bots having a spirited conversation between them. 😅
So, having one, or five, or ten bots that can wow the masses is pretty neat.. How is OpenAI going to mass produce them? Even if they're better than the Tesla bots, Tesla has all of the manufacturing processes and know-how already in place.
The Figure robot is far from a refined design. Cables and motors hanging out everywhere to snag or get in the way. It is a prototype, little better than Tela's first bumblebee.
So you dont think Open AI together with the giants Amazon and Nvidia in a joined effort couldn't produce the robot on scale?

@@mackan7086 No. I don't. You don't just one day step into a new arena and think you can mass produce. Ask Apple how that went with their car. Maybe Amazon...but if you think one tech giant is going to just "partner" with another to build robots, I have some ocean front property for sale. Not gonna happen.
@@mackan7086 It's not that other companies can't build robots, it's just that Tesla is already working towards mass manufacturing and most other companies are still in the early prototype stage. Digit, used by Amazon is an exception.
No doubt mass manufacturing is a parameter that affects every design decision along the way working on Figure 1. They are not doing this just for fun, bottom line matters!

I have watched a few Boston Dynamics talks and sales presentations: The atlas bots movement’s generally aren’t coded according to their creators the most common way they generate the movements is they build up a model based on rerunning simulations of their environment and the moves requested.
The bots are smart enough to maintain their balance etc of the environment has slight changes from the simulation.
Like the dog thing they sell the Boston Dynamics robots are generally supposed to be platforms to test out different software on with only the reactions required to keep them standing, balancing or prevent collisions etc built in directly.
It doesn't leverage chat GPT. It uses GPT.
Chat GPT is an interface / program
Not really a problem for Elon Musk. Competition is good. The Tesla humanoid robot also has a use case, in various Tesla factories ( if they can be made fast, efficient and useful enough). The use case is quite narrow in a factory, so a flexible ChatGPT based AI humanoid would be cool, until network connection is lost, but probably not necessary.
Tesla's edge will be their knowledge in mass production. That is the only way robots could get cheaper. I see many companies going to tesla to get their robots produced or some sort of partnership being formed with tesla and other companies.
Meh the edge can disappear with ai increasing and providing easier entry into making the alien dreadnought that essentially Tesla has pulled off. Tesla had a great moat… still does but loosing the ai game…

Once again @TheTeslaSpace has misunderstood the actual status/abilities of what they are reporting on. Tesla is approaching the AI learning differently than NVIDIA. You seem impressed by its ability answer a question....lol Tesla is AHEAD of others, but you seem to have missed it. No problem for Tesla, but hopefully, you'll get better...

I don't understand how anything can be zero service if it has moving parts. At best, they could do zero service for a few years. I'm not an engineer though so what do I know?

"teach him to think for himself." I think that is easy, but a great deal of effort is going into limiting it's capability so it doesn't go rogue. We have to be sure to instill good morality etc. before we let it think for itself.

Semi slow ramp? Follow the batteries. The 4680 form factor is taking a while, especially since the Cybertruck is also using them. But the increased production trajectory is being implemented. Tesla & Panasonic are in the game.
I think you are assuming a lot about Figure 1. First assumption is that there is not a whole bank of super computers connected to the robot. So it may not be a level playing field. A competition would have to have rules.
Lets see what the next demo of optimus brings.......

I'm driving a 2015 Model S and have required only a few 'service' repairs, and those have mostly been handled by mobile service ... very nice since I live an hour away from any Tesla locations

No, the Tesla Semi is correct for Europe. The laws were changed a few years ago to be more similar to USA. Limit trailer length, not overall length.

Figure is not only able to talk, it is able to understand. It has a brain and knows how to use it. If Tesla has a brain, we have not seen it yet. Teleoperation is yesterday game.
Most of these alternative Robots could never pass as a human, most have bloody wheels so they could only ever work in a factory such as a production line.

The hardware? They aren't a hardware company. They buy from the same hardware companies everyone else does. That means by definition they have the exact same hardware. Grok is quite behind and catching up will be hard. Keep in mind Tesla had like a 20 year head start. If Tesla started today it's hard to say if it would even be successful.
@@brianleonard6598 Tesla is a hardware company. They make factories that make cars, robots, batteries, superchargers, software, and all the parts to go into all of those. Cars are hardware. Without a car, Grok can not drive.
On an side note. Tesla can build ICE cars for 50% less than GM.
@@davidbeppler3032 If you don't know how it works you need to try to not have a strong opinion. Tesla does make cars. What they don't make is radar, processors, ram, or any other hardware components. They buy those from a company that makes those and then put them in their cars. Apple doesn't even make their own hardware and they *literally* are a computer company.
