They chose Anette specifically because she DIDN'T sound like Tarja, and they were able to do things musically Tarja would not have been suited for vocally. The huge success of the following albums and tours including breaking the US justifies this choice, even if they lost a few Tarja fanatics in the process, it was worth it. I never cared for her ghostly operatic vocals personally, so Anette was the thing that got me interested in Nightwish.
floor is way more powerful and hits the high notes better but Anette is way more dynamic. I like the quality of her voice a lot more. I also think the 2 NW albums with her blow away the 2 w floor

The thing with Nightwish songs is that they usually sound easy to someone who had some basic good training (and fits the range of course, usually a soprano) BUT when you actually try to sing them you understand that they're a lot harder than you thought at first, hence you need more training, you need to get your technique to be solid. And I think that this was the problem with Annette...she thought she could do it, but she wasn't ready yet. She could have done it if she had a better, more "suitable" technique

I must be in the minority here but I think this rocks actually, even for a poor quality cell phone recording. There’s always the Anette hate train but I find Floor’s talents wasted nowadays in NW and I find her versions to be surprisingly boring 🤷🏻♂️ Anette was not always consistent live, but to me she has the best storytellers voice and such a variety depending on what the song asked for. It’s why Imaginaerum is my favorite NW album next to Oceanborn. The newer albums with Floor are 🥱

Live she is often incredible when she is covering certain songs in her own way. And her previous recordings with Revamp and After Forever show that her vocal strengths can shine even in studio. With Nightwish albums, however, I find her voice to be “toned down” in the mix, a bit boring/bland, and I don’t hear as much of that power and tone I love except for a few moments at the end of certain songs.

I don't miss this era. She didn't have a good enough voice for Nightwish. Floor is proof of that. Every time she sings any of the songs from that era, she absolutely owns it. I'm glad she's out of the band.

Miss what exactly? This short video actually just illustrates why they got rid of her. Her voice is not powerful enough to 'fight' back against the sound of the rest of the band. Compare this to Floor where her voice is so powerful it actually doesn't even need to fight back but just melds in.
She'd just had a baby, I imagine she was exhausted. No one can sing the chorus of this song like Anette, and I love Floor. It's strange that this official video has more views than all the Ghost love score videos put together.
Choosing Anette worked well for the band. It proved the band could be successfully, even more successful without Tarja. It was more approachable to popular audiences making it the highest selling albums. It gave Marko more material to work with to compensate. The emphasis was more on the orchestra and instrumentals than the vocals. I would have liked to have kept Anette for more albums if only to make it more accessible to the greater world.
I really liked her. She was not a good technical singer but she was very charismatic and definitely into it. Tarja was more solid and beautiful voice color. Floor might be the one with most technique but my least fav. And their albums are not helping her either.
