    Instead of a Penguin, I have a ST 103. Same shape, a bit longer. This knife looks like it would fit right in with the Bedouins in the desert, If you take this one out in the 'wrong' place, Somebody is going to scream and faint. I really like this one. Tip up or tip down doesn't really matter to me, just a matter of muscle memory and practice. If you need to open this really quickly, bring a pistol.

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +3

      I like having the Penguin, ST103, and Pelican. It's three sizes of the exact same knife! Such a great design!
      Yeah, you wouldn't want to pull this one out in the breakroom🤣.
      Thank you for contributing to the "survey". I'm getting a lot of great input!

    I have 3 EFs and for the money you cannot beat them. I have seen some folks comment that they think they are copying other makers. I personally do not care and for the price and workmanship, I’d buy them all day.

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes, it's a highly debated issue. I like the EF's I've seen, and they are a good value. I'm glad there are knives out there for folks that want to collect knives, and not pay hundreds for each one.

    I got this one in jade a couple months ago, hoping it will work well for food prep in the camp ground this summer. I like that the flipper tab doesn't lift the cutting edge from the surface all that much. Thanks for the disassembly, I'll follow along when I take mine apart for some KPL love.

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +2

      Oh, it does seem like a good campsite knife! I'm with you on the flipper tab. It is annoying when a good cutter gets blocked by a huge flipper.
      You are very welcome bro! Have a great weekend!

  • @aawillma

    This is a solid option for my camping tote. That blade shape is borderline silly for EDC but totally workable for cutting twine, shaving tinder, slicing hot dogs, and stabbing angry wombats. I normally hate thicc ole handles too but they are certainly better if you're wearing gloves. I have stocky knives for camping but man they are all so boring! The looks you'd get whipping this out to sharpen a marshmallow skewer 😂

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +2

      😅 Or if someone sitting around the fire says "anybody have a pocket knife I can borrow😆 I think it would be a great camping knife to have in the tote!

    Great video. This is a wicked looking knife. I have carried both ways. Tip up and tip down. Tip down were my Kershaws. I found a more rapid blade deployment on tip down. My fingers were closer to the flipper upon deployment from the pocket. I did have a tip up blade open in my pocket once. A strong detent is needed for tip up carry.

    Good morning Mr. Beez, I'm not picky about tip up or tip down. However, I am picky about the socks I wear. Wool socks, always wool socks. Absolutely agree that knives shouldn't have to always be serious looking. I feel there's quite alot of us that think that way. Examples : The Dessert Warrior, CRKT Ritual... right?

    To start tip or tip down is not that big of a deal for me. In fact a pocket clip is that essential for me. I can carry a pocket knife in my pocket. But I wear cargo pants, not everyone is going to have the roomy pockets for that kind of carry. I prefer a tip down carry with a pocket clip. This is awesome looking knife. Its different. And it is a Fidget Monster! Are you kidding me its a front flipper? Awesome! Better materials and I would pay a lot more for this. Awesome find Beez, thanks for sharing it with us. For me, the tip-down configuration usually interferes with the ergonomics too much, especially when employing the pinch grip. However, if overall the knife makes an impression, like most other things, it can be overlooked. At the least, the clip can always be removed, which improves ergos but can limit functionality like safe one-handed opening and closing, as one sometimes needs the purchase area a clip affords. Occasionally, a tip-down knife adds to the vintage look the designer may be trying to achieve overall, and is therefore fitting.

      I am not super well versed in tip down carry. However I do have a Harnds Blazer, tip down carry (also comes with a pouch). When I pull it from my pocket I don't have to do any fumbling with the knife to deploy the blade. It is perfectly set in my hand to deploy. Perhaps because of the size of the knife? Anyway, my concern is the knife coming open in the pocket. Tip down if it opens its pointing at your leg, tip up if it comes open its pointing at the back of your pocket, much safer.

    Been buying and collecting for 4 years and have never bought or tried "TIP DOWN" because 99% of knife reviewers praised a knife for being "TIP UP". Ya think I'd be struck by lightning if I bought this Eafengrow or switched clips? With "TIP UP", my thumb and forefinger, drawing the knife out of my right hand pocket, is all that closer to the knife's pivot, flipper, stud, hole, disk, or blade fuller for quick deployment. No? As to this Eafengrow, this long knife is going to be my perfect skinner/boner in the kitchen. Here, it's simply "TIP IN".

As far the pocket clip question goes - I don't care since I generally just drop the knife in my pocket without using the clip. If you are using the pocket clip it seems as if tip up would be better/faster since your had goes on the knife the wayt you have to hold it to deploy the blade. The price is definitely perfect, and in the long run I doubt tip-down will bother me enough not to eventually get this knife. Worst-case scenario is I drill and tap for tip-up carry...

    This has kind of that Persian shape but it's not too crazy. I prefer a tip up because it seems like there is less fumbling around to get it deployed out of the pockect. I appreciate all of these good budget knives especially now since my car died last week. My knife budget just took a nose dive.

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +3

      Oh no! Not good! Having a car break-down is the worst!
      Yeah, I don't have a big budget for knives, and that's why I focus on the budget lines. I am fortunate that the pricier knives are donated for review, because it gives me an opportunity to share. When a knife hits the $60-70 mark or higher, I have to put more thought into weather it's a good investment for the channel, and something that Hive Members will enjoy seeing.
      I hope you get the car figured out! Thank you for your support Ken! I like your channel picture, because I instantly know who it is! Have a great weekend nevertheless!

      I am not super versed in tip up and tip down carry. I do have a Harnds Blazer, its tip down carry (also comes with a pouch). And if put in my pocket using the clip and pull it out, I don't have turn or fumble with the knife, its orientated perfectly for deployment. My concern if any would be it opening in my pocket.

    Definatly a cool knife. Love the size of it and the ergos look great. Crazy how much knife you can get for so little money. Interesting that they went with steel ball bearings but as long as the action is good it really doesn't matter especially st this price point. Thanks for the look see Beez and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

    Now, I am not knocking this knife at this price. It has a lot going for it. I just want to make it known that many on the internet have tested the steel on Eafengrow knives (specifically the ones with their logo) do not actually have the steel that is advertised or stamped on the blade. Quite often the actual steel is 8cr13Mov. Thanks for the review.

    • @TopDog8762
      @TopDog8762 Před 2 lety +1

      I do not have the ability to test knives. So my go to for testing results is Luv Them Knives channel as he posts the results and then does a video usually showing the test paperwork. No room for mistakes. He has tested EAFENGROW and found it to be real D2 in most of the knives. I would check for a specific knife model rather than relying on, the "most". Also Eafengrow has CH under their wing, who in my opinion is always reliable. Not defending Eafengrow as its always the genuine steel, because the older ones are not, more likely some form of 440.

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  Před 2 lety +3

      Good afternoon Matt. Thank you for the info. I do know that Eafengrow has a new owner, who vows to always label steel correctly. I'm not sure how recent this knife is, but LTK has tested a bunch of EF's and they show true D2. This one? I don't know, but like you said, for the price..eh. Thank you for the insight, brother! Here's to a great weekend!

    • @matthirn7858
      @matthirn7858 Před 2 lety +2

      @@BeezBlades thanks. It has been several months since I looked at any Eafengrow testing, so it may actually be D2 steel. I was not aware of the new owner. It is good to hear a commitment to correct, honest labelling of the steel.
