Hey Mark, great video! After two years of MSFS in VR with three headsets, many upgrades and updates, hundreds of hours tweaking and testing, I have finally also settled with my Varjo Aero / 4090 / 5800x3d combo on the following approach:
    - DLSS-Quality
    - 4800px Super-sampled render resolution in OXRTK
    - Turbo mode, foveated rendering
    - Varjo Motion Smoothing run at fixed 30fps
No more tweaking since three months, it's really great: both super-clear and super-smooth. Cheers! 😊👍

Mark, I also noticed a small issue with the bottom left edge of the velcro for the face gasket immediately. Hadn't even plugged it in for the first time, but was fiddling to see how the gaskets are removed (coming from a G2, which uses magnets). As I grabbed the bottom edge of the foam and started peeling it back, I noticed the velcro that was glued to the headset and should have stayed put, did not - it started lifting off the plastic so I stopped pulling. If it becomes an issue, I'll add some adhesive to attach it more firmly. Thanks for pointing out that you had the same experience.
As with Steve, I'm going to try DFR before DLSS on my 4090 as soon as the Pimax firmware allows it for us plebeians.

Could you do also a testrun with more avordable hardware please? Really start to getting frustrated only seeing topend hardware tests with this headset. I was hoping to swap my allready 3 years old 8KX with this one (despite the much smaller fov). Super vid as allways, thanks.

I'm curious how foveated rendering will play into this. With the Reverb G2, it was barely noticeable outside the sweet spot, but better lenses might negate that. Eye tracking with foveated rendoring, if they get it working, would be the holy grail.

Hi Mark. I have a 4090 with a 7800x3d, 6000mhz ddr5 ram and the crystal. I find DLSS far better than TAA. Although TAA is sharp, I find in the distance around light poles, trees etc that there is a slight antialiasing shimmer which disappears completely when using dlss quality. In fact, because dlss quality is cleaning up the antialiasing better I find the image outside the cockpit to be much cleaner than taa. As you pointed out the in cockpit image suffers a bit with dlss. I have however been able to upscale my resolution in openxr toolkit to 4200x (not 3800x) that you mentioned in your video. The graphics quality is out of this world. Better than a 2d 4k monitor. As for fps, I have only tried this in smaller aircraft like the 172 and the tbm 900, the Kodiak etc at EGLC. I am still getting between 45 and 55fps around there. I think the cpu might be making the difference why I can go up a bit more than you. However, I would never go back to TAA after experiencing this. I am loving my crystal immensely. I still need to resolve the extended battery charging approaches. I haven't worked that one out yet. Thanks for your video!

Just got mine today! All set up. Not an easy first setup. It’s very clear compared to the G2, but I’m having issues with screen tear flashes when I move my head. As though a cable is loose or broken. But every cable is connected very securely. I’m very upset to say the least! Also headset is quite cumbersome, heavy and unbalanced, especially with glasses, it pushes on my glasses touching lenses and hurting my face. Sweating profusely while wearing it! Irrespective of how good the Crystal headset is the Pimax customer service is shockingly bad. My 8KX developed audio issues after 6 weeks and I returned it in April (23). Its now the end of July (23) and I've been told they can't replace (as they have none) and all they can offer is a discount on a 12K. To be released when?! I've asked for either a refund or to pay the difference for a Crystal. 2 weeks ago they said they would get back in 3 days. After 2 chasding emails still nothing. I guess I'll have to take them to court to uphold their guarantee. AVOID PIMAX - don't say you haven't been warned!

If you have a crystal why would you use dlss? You are killing the image quality. Might as well use a G2 then. Use Dynamic Foveated Rendering at full res and turn down the outer rings in resolution. Turn off DLSS, in fact use no aliasing or fast approximate instead if you have artificing in clouds etc.... I can't believe how many people have crystals and then turn down the resolution with under-sampling or dlss.
