- Thanks for growing with us!
It seems way too soon to be talking about Fall planting but today we are doing just that. A big order of plants has arrived from @greatgardenplants and we need to get them unboxed. We take you through the process of unboxing and then share the stats on each variety. We also talk about the plans we have (or don't yet have) for the different plants.

This is the one of most inspiring gardening channels! I’m now addicted to gardening haha.
Happy to hear that!
I discovered this Company a year ago. Everything I ordered came packaged well and the plants were very healthy. 4 blooming plants I received have given me blooms this year. Little lime Hydrangea, Bobo Hydrangea, Tiny tuff stuff Hydrangea and quick silver climbing rose. I also got Wine craft gold smoke bush and deutzia. Every one is beautiful. You have your work cut out for you. :)
Oh yes we do!
Wow guys can’t wait to see all that planted up by you
me too!
I just love watching your videos so much . I have added this hydrangea to my garden now. Can't wait to plant her 😍
Wonderful!
I can't believe it's time to prepare for Fall Planting. Either I am getting old or time is just going too fast. Beautiful plants, guys.
It sure is!
What a very nice and informative video. I always learn from you both (I also like your Grow for Me shirt).
Thanks so much!
So so fun guys!! Can’t wait to see the new plantings.
Us too!
I live in Northwest Indiana, 40 minutes from Chicago. 6A is my zone too. I tried 2 times with a crepe myrtle but no luck. I hope it lives for you guys
Fingers crossed
I'm embracing the idea of keeping hydrangeas in pots year round. Especially if the foliage is nice.
I love it
Nice plant haul! Would like to see what all you overwinter in the garage.
There will be a few for sure
Beautiful selections. I am ready for fall planting. I also have PW Red center stage crape Myrtle, it die back to the ground for the past 2 years. I am in NY zone 7A
But it didn't die so that's positive
Winterberry is a holly. I looked it up. I love your gardens. They are very beautiful. MK
Yes they are!
Hello from Luella Texas. Zone 8A and I love my vitex tree!
Hi!
I loved my inkberries at my last house. I had them flanking the pathway up to the front door. The way fresh snow looks sitting on them is just breathtaking!! Such an interesting architectural addition to the garden.
Sounds great!
This was the best unboxing I’ve ever seen! Loved the complete start to finish steps. Thanks for including all the plant stats and the pics of the plants as well. Have fun, it’s like Christmas! 😀
It really is!
Just placed an order with them. I've never ordered from them so it's your fault! I put you down as my reference- you need sponsored! Thanks! I got 6 Thin Man arborvitae and 2 of the Inv. Lace hydrangeas. I'm excited!
That's wonderful! You're going to love them
I live in Texas and have 2 Crape Mertials. My two large ones lived through us going down to 11 degrees during one of our rare freezes. They went through just fine. M y favorite trees!!! Beautiful blooms late in the Spring.
Good to know
Love crape Myrtle's . I have plenty of them in deferent color and sizes...
If they diy in winter they come back from roots.
Zone 7b, Oklahoma.
Fingers crossed
It's like Christmas! 🎁🎅😂
So exciting!
The inkberry holly looks interesting. Is it an evergreen?
It is!
OMG I just got my box from great gardens on Saturday and planted twelve new plants on Sunday. We have had rain on and off for a few days so every plant is thriving. Can’t wait to see how crape Myrtle does as I’m in 6B pushing 7A in Massachusetts and I’ve always envied southern gardeners their plants.
Same! This will be fun to watch
Yes my local nursery classifies winter berry under hollies
I knew it
It’s Christmas morning! Vitex is one of my favorite things. Had one at the old house that was a beautiful small tree. Beautiful all season. And of course the hydrangeas…. They do everything right. Happy days!
Haha definitely
Your gardening stamina is amazing. I'm garden pooped out.
haha
It’s always such a pleasure visiting you two. Christopher was a little hard to hear, but all good. I’m sure looking forward to where these new babies will be going! 🇨🇦👏🌸
I almost have the microphone situation handled. Learning a lot every time we film.
I just love the format of your videos! You are helping my future plant wish list grow and grow! I purchased a fairy trail bride in the spring (I'm zone 5b). Planted it in a pot and have had on my porch. It performed beautifully all summer. I, too, am going to winter it over in my garage. I hope we all have great success! Fingers crossed!
I can’t wait to see all of these but especially the sand cherry. I had one for years and I was so sad when it started to decline because there aren’t a ton of shrubs that bring the color to the landscape. Thanks for introducing it to me!!
High hopes!
That’s going to be so much fun designing and planting all your newbie’s! The Crepe Myrtle will most likely die back to the ground much like hardy hibiscus does and it takes awhile for it to grow but it’s not dead so give it some time next summer to see if it’s alive. I’ve got 3 planted in zone 6a NE KS. We should be a zone 5. Our winters are a lot like Chicago pretty extreme with negative temps. I was amazed they came back. They’re so worth it though with that gorgeous foliage. It’s so much fun getting new plants. 😊
We shall see!!!
What a surprise! Hydrangeas! Lol! I’m sure they will be lovely added to your gardens!
hahaha
Fun video! I did a shrub unboxing today too! Received my 3 Tuff Stuff Top Fun hydrangeas and they look great. Nothing better than planting them for my birthday tomorrow! Oh and I learned about the variety from you guys- thanks!
Happy Birthday!
@@growformegardening thanks! 😊
I am in zone 3 so when I buy zone 4 perennials, in the late fall after hard frost, I put a circle of metal mesh around the plant and fill the mesh up with leaves that have fallen to give it a little bit of winter protection. I remove it in early Spring. It has been successful for me.
Great idea
Hi fellow zone 3, I wish I’d thought of that idea before I lost plants. I now only plant zone 3 so no room for 4s. Manitoba Zone 3 🇨🇦
I love GGP for purchasing plants online. Never had a problem.
I don't know if this is specific to MY Ilex shrubs, they sucker.
Another content creator said that can be the result of heavy pruning. I haven't researched that so don't know if that's the cause. For me, suckering didn't show up for several years, maybe ten? This year, I hacked the plants way back. Had to look at stubs for a while as this is late to leaf out. The suckers just showed up a couple weeks ago. My plan was to remove them altogether and maybe plant peonies (my favorite) because they die back to the ground and this area is in front of a patio so snow shoveling is something to consider.
That is very interesting.
I have a chaste shrub, it is so beautiful. im going to limb it up this fall. im in east tx zone 8b. i love you guys.
It must get gigantic there!
So many pretty plants. Can't wait to see what you do with them. The crepe myrtle was a new one to me (but I'm zone 3 so not surprising that I've never seen it).
Its an experiment for sure
What an excellent assortment! I've considered pushing my luck and planting a few things that are rated slightly outside of our zone, but it's in my nature to be (overly) cautious so I never have; can't wait to see how that Crepe Myrtle performs for you.
We will keep you posted!
Good morning🌞how exciting to have all those new shrubs and for us to see the placements. Vitex is such a lovely small tree, the Crape Myrtle will be interesting to see its hardiness so far up north. Heading out to the garden early so much to do, it will be glorious here in Northern Virginia, have a great day🌞
We are looking at a week in the 70s!!
@@growformegardeninga welcome relief😃
The Crape Myrtle in my zone dies back like a perennial but either way it’ll be a beautiful addition to your garden!
That’s what we are expecting
Next! LOL! Excited to see where they will be planted. 🌼🐝
Can't wait!
Here in South texas, the varigated privet is an evergreen. The crepe myrtle is a South texas beauty , so many varieties. The vitex is a tree here , but I'm pretty sure in your zone it would be more of a shrub.❤😊😊😊
We will be happy if they survive!
Can't wait to see where you plant them.
Me too!
I can't wait. I have wanted a vitex but I was afraid it gets too cold here. I am in Indiana I also am interested in the crapemyrtle. I hope both do well for you. Do you have acid soil? I hope so with the hollies.
We are relatively neutral with slightly alkaline water. I'm hopeful that the healthy soil and rain will keep it happy
Just found your channel today and subscribed. Winterberry is an ilex, so it is a holly. (Laughing because I typed my comment before you looked up winterberry. 😂) Good luck with the crape myrtle. I hope it does well in your zone. I have a different variety and I am in the Pacific Northwest in zone 8b/9 and have had 2 of mine in large pots for years, but we had a sudden cold snap down to 20 degrees last winter and one didn’t make it. I am very curious if yours is hardy enough to live in upstate New York. P.S. I planted a vitex around 15 years ago and it has very tough conditions, rocky soil and a slope, and only a little supplemental water in our dry summer. I love it! It’s not grown huge, just about 4 feet tall (started maybe one foot) and 3 or so feet wide, surely due to the unfavorable conditions, (also, I don’t remember the variety so it might just be one that doesn’t get as tall), but true to its name, it takes a beating and still lives and blooms very late summer, right now in fact. I am sure you will love this tree!
This will be a fun experiment!
Winterberry is in the holly family
yes!
I love your channel btw...
Thank you so much!
Yay! More beauty!
yes!
What do you do if your plants are damaged? 💚 your videos.
We would contact the company if anything looks too bad
How do you have time? Do you guys have full time jobs I assume? How big is your property? Just curious because videos make it look VERY large. I started my garden this summer and am EXHAUSTED from all of the work! (I think I took on too much too fast.) but how do you keep your stuff so tidy and neat ALL the time? I just feel like my yard is a mess full of constant projects going. (It’s only me also versus there are two of you.)
We really don't have THAT much space, just a half an acre. We get the work done on weekends
When you were talking about the invincibelle Ruby, you said that they have rebloomed quite well. Do you deadhead them to get them to rebloom?
Yes we did snip the old blooms
❤
🌸
Hi guys, were all of these specimens go in the shade or sun? Thanx a bunch
oh gosh we completely skipped that! As we plant them up we will mention it!
I want a hydrangea for a pot. In Wisconsin. Any suggestions?
ooh I think you should try Tiny Quick Fire
💙🪴👍🏻🪴💙
🌸🌱
Where did you order them from may I ask?
