I mostly like your videos and this one is an ok analysis. Yes, subsidies are ultimately paid by the whole population. Where did you get the figure of 50k crore? You selectively mentioned congress so many times along with AAP but you didn't mention BJPs freebies at all. Giving free homes, free toilets (most of them are either useless or used for storage or paid to people who already had pre-existing toilets), kissan samman nidhi and then bringing paid people to political campaign s. You forgot to mention PayCM sarkar and how much it was affecting population. Congress didn't win Karnataka only because of freebie promises. It's a very cheap analysis. Why don't you appeal to MPs, MLAs, DM, CMs to leave their subsidies of housing, petrol, train, aeroplane ticket and these officials spend crores of rupee on chai per day. It is paid by taxpayers. I don't like my taxes going up, nobody likes it. You forgot to discuss the chain reaction of some subsidies, it will increase demand. A 3000 rs to a graduate will ensure he doesn't have to beg to his family and friends and his spending will boost the so called demand which will lead to more tax collection, so it's not a total loss. Let me believe that 50k figure and it could generate 1.5 lakh crore worth of business demand. You might see a better Karnataka GDP figure in next few qts if this freebie scheme is implemented. They should fund this by cutting MLAs, DM, govt workers excessive spending.

I am against freebies, but I have a few questions here
      - Why bank loan waive off, write off, and NPA to the businessmen are not covered here?
      - Why Black Money issue is not discussed?
      - Why Corruption is not covered?
      - If you add the above 3, the amount is 100X more than the freebies
      - Why the video is mainly focused on AAP, Congress, and other parties, with visuals. BJP also has freebies schemes that don't even reach people.
Looks like the video is BJP funded. After losing Karnataka, they lose their mind also and try to defame other parties.
Lastly, freebies are at least reaching to the people (though I don't support it), but the above 3 points I mentioned is just going into a few people's pockets.

The middle class is a small portion of the vote bank, and the majority of votes are from villages where poverty is high whereas the middle class is situated in the city and represent only a few percent of the votes. Hence, it will always be the burden of the middle class to pay for the taxes as most HNIs don't even pay taxes on their properties and the part they do is a very small portion of the tax they need to pay in comparison to the freebies for setting up a company or a factory in a particular place.

    - If you add the above 3, the amount is 100X more than the freebies

Looks like the video is BJP funded. After losing Karnataka, they lose their mind also and try to defame other parties.

The basic problem is it's really not easy for poor people to say no to freebies because most of them need the money today. All of us will suffer in the long run, and sadly, the economic turmoil it leads to impacts poor people the most... That's why it needs visionaries to formulate right policies... Like FRBM for states, Welfare being more targeted than broad-based, and possibly time-bound and contingent upon certain positive change. For eg. if framers are subsidized, maybe they should have a target of reduction of ground water usage and better agricultural practices.

This is a very complex and grey topic, but covered well at a high level, given that these videos are meant to be short and understandable to a layman. 👍
Couple of points which could have been included in the video (or maybe in some future one):
    1. Freebies not just hurt the exchequer and thereby causing fiscal deficit and inflation, it also hurts the taxpayer directly by them not getting back the worth of taxes they paid. The amount spent on these freebies could have been put to use more judiciously and towards areas which would strengthen the country and economy in the long run. For ex: highway Infrastructure, sanitation, rural connectivity, improved medical facilities, education etc. By not doing so, the person paying 40% tax (assumed highest slab) still ends up with bad roads, poor infra and has to pay money for everything which should have been free, like toll on highways etc.
    2. Agree with the argument that increasing the tax rate from here on is not a feasible option. One effective (but difficult to implement) option is to increase the direct tax base especially with only about 3-4% population filing returns. The economic activity (purchase of new cars, gold, consumer goods, foreign travel) has been on an increasing trend, which is not commensurate with the increase in the tax filing population! This gap needs to be bridged. Taxing agriculture income could be another way, but its a very 'sensitive' topic given the strategic importance of agriculture based activities in Indian economy and the poor economic condition of majority of the farmers. Maybe a video on this would be good (if not already covered).
