The lumber mill in Brookhaven, MS still blows theirs, they stopped using it for several years but they started to use it again. I love hearing it blow as it echoes throughout the town and people know what time it is based on the echo.
My grandfather works at a paper mill and the still use these one high pitch for break and one low pitch for start work and stop work, ive been in the mill and its like stepping back in time with the machinery they use

If you ever consider moving in a town with one- don't. Unless, of course, you want to be woken up by that screech every morning.
Think of it as the old school bell. Time to be at work, time to go to lunch, time to be back from lunch, time to go home, 5 blasts for an emergency, 2 for all clear. Just let's everyone at the mill know what's going on.

Its Arizona Chemical Company now. They still sound it 7am 12pm 12:30pm and 3:30pm and they also have a Whelen Wps 2808 that tests Tuesdays at 9:15am
