  • “Religion” is not a word that has a good ring to it, because so much bad religion has owned it. But the Bible tells us exactly that good religion is, by telling us what it does. And what it does is the most beautiful thing ever: it cares for the needs of the most vulnerable people in the world-parentless children.

    Many years ago when I was working with homeless men, a man who had molested his young stepdaughter when high on drugs and alcohol was waiting for his prison sentence. He and the mother of the girl also had a son together. The mother didn't want him to have any access to his son. His in-laws were Seventh-day Adventists, and they brought his son to see him (they stayed with him while the child was there). They told him they forgave him, in spite of the fact that he had molested their granddaughter. They would never let her near him again. But they understood re his son. When he spoke to me about them, he said, "I want what they have". He said he was so overwhelmed by their lives before his crime, and their demonstrated wisdom and kindness, and he wanted to be just like them. He did go to prison for a number of years. I'm not sure what happened to him, but I hope he did change and become like his in-laws.

    Simplicity = Love
    Love Is Really Simple. Why do we insist on making It complicated?
    Mark 12:30-31
    30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
    If we who are called Christians, were about our Father business in Love and just do what Mark 12:30-31 say - Heaven would be on Earth. I love that your preaching is teaching.
    I would love to go to a Acts 2:42-47 Church - I haven't found one, and I have been too many Churches.

    Just wondering Ty. Is there no value in a great worship set and sermon in casting and clarifying a vision? It was in the upper room where God prepared the disciples hearts to receive power to serve effectually...
    In general Adventist don't put much emphasis on worship; neither do they have much of a budget for a worship team.

      May I suggest that “worship” is not limited to what happens in church during the service? In fact, worship is not primarily in church either. In Romans 12, Paul describes what true worship is, and at no point does he mention a church service. I don’t agree that “In general Adventist don’t put much emphasis on worship.” In fact, I would say that the opposite is true, if you take your definition of “worship” from the Bible. In this message, Ty does not say anything that would indicate he is against sermons and singing in church; in fact, he says the opposite. I think one of the strong points that he makes is that worship must not be limited to a church service. Worship must take hold in our lives in the form of other-centeredness, also called love, as the Bible repeatedly commands.

    You are preaching the gospel in the way that God called you to do it. I’m glad you’re a “leader for Christ” you think outside the box, by chance too many want to keep you in a box. And if it weren’t for your style of teaching, where would the deep thinkers be? they’d be no happier than a benchwarmer who is on fire for Jesus! Just tell them....
    Don’t bring me down, Bruce! *chuckle*
