    His family was politically connected from his birth.
    It's not like he was a pig farmer, and then suddenly the leader of China.
    Old connections did bring him to the top.

    • @LiveForPanda
      @LiveForPanda Před 6 lety +539

      Yes, but the connections also brought him disasters. Remember he was sent to feed pigs in rural areas because his father was the underdog in Cultural Revolution.
      If Cultural Revolution didn't end the way it did, Xi's fate would be unknown, he might be nobody, or he might be killed because of his father, who knows.

      PandaLivesMatter: But his connections together are like one of those treasure swords, it can be the best weapon to win wars to make one the King, but it would also be used to kill the King. It depends on how that sword is pointed. Commoners like us who have no political connection, bad or good, are therefore common and , we may not even survive during a crisis like the cultural revolution. Xi is no ordinary Joe and that's the fact.

      As if it's a general rule "old connections = top". Most people are tired of the old flocks having the same feather. May be Xi Jinping is different from his old connections.

    You might think he made it to the top with political connections but it was the political connections that made him live in a fricken cave. He applied to join the party 10 times and failed 9 times... that shows you how much his political connections did for him.

      during Xi's childhood having a father that was a high level official was like having a father who was a criminal, Xi was lucky he even got to have the chance to live in a cave. Deng Xiaoping's son was thrown out of a 2 story building and was paralyzed for the rest of his life.

    This video overlooked a big portion of Xi's fight for power--his 10 years in Fujian and Zhejiang as top provincial leader. During the time, he successfully proved himself of being capable to handle both economic and cultural development issues of one economically less developed province--Fujian, and another more developed province--Zhejiang. He only spent one year in Shanghai because he was not meant to rule Shanghai for long--he was "promoted" to become the party secretary of Shanghai simply because the by-then shanghai leader was purged from the party. And Xi was there to stabilize the situation and to clean up the shit. In another word, he proved his loyalty and capability during the previous 10 years so that he earned the trust from the central committee. The reason why he ruled the two provinces successfully and handled shanghai's issue perfectly is not that he "inherited" his father's connection in Beijing, he earned it.

      He cemented his power by orchestrating Beijing as the site of the world olympics, which is a substantial win in the eyes of the CCP. The I.O.C, and the W.H.O are all politically tied with Xi JinPing, it's no surprise they tend to parrot whatever message he wants when it suits him.

    I live in the US but I was born and raised in China. To be very honest, between better lifestyle and complete freedom of speech, I choose better lifestyle, and that means better infrastructure, better public transportation, better standard of living and better health coverage. The only thing lacking in China right now is health coverage which includes food quality and safety, and it should be the next focus.
    Freedom of speech...if you look back in history, what has freedom of speech brought to people of China? Civil wars, change of government power which brings wars and death, economic disaster... The majority of people in China are not politicians, nor do they want to be one. They just want simple and better life for their family. At the current stage, with Western powers constantly wanting to prevent China from economic and military growth, having limited political freedom is an effective way. I'm surprised a lot of people don't see this or are choosing to ignore it. The numbers have spoken, just look at where China is at. "Freedom of speech" and "democracy", in Asian background? Sure, take a look at Taiwan and tell me they have a better future.

    • @JohnDoe-je9pj
      @JohnDoe-je9pj Před 6 lety +62

      The word "freedom" has been used and abuse by every western interest groups to pushed their own political agenda that it has lost all meaning. What is freedom and how much freedom should a society grant to its citizenry? Absolute freedom is total anarchy. In fact in order for a civilization to function, its citizens must yield to it's governmental authority so that society can benefit as a whole. In other words, government puts a cap on an individual freedoms. But that begs the question, would that leave corrupting uncheck. Yes it would. But if the government grants its citizenry too much freedom, it cannot allocate the resources to push any initiatives. The government becomes inefficient and cannot function. Both extremes yields anarchy. Just look at india. The question is not about "freedom", but how much freedom should be granted to its citizenry with maximum returns. It is a careful balance. Therefore it is in both in the interest of the people in government and those who are govern, that harmony exist between the two because both groups will lose out if chaos ensues. I believe this is the core of Confucian ideology.
