  • Longest & Fastest Military Train Ever! Over 300 Pieces Of Military Equipment Whizzing By On CSX Main Line! Speed Check By Radar! Kansas City Southern Railway locomotives are pulling this long fast train near Russell, Kentucky. Norfolk Southern Railroad is also included. 2nd train is in Florence, Kentucky and we do a speed check there by radar also. I was filming Norfolk Southern trains when my friend Matt from Railfan Depot on CZcams notified me about the military train. It went through Hamilton, Ohio and then passed through Cincinnati before heading east in Kentucky. I went to Greenup, Kentucky to wait for it. Greenup is just north of Russell , Kentucky where the train was heading on the CSX main line along the Ohio River. I waited a short time and got lucky that it came through while there was still good light. It passed me at about 7:22pm and I checked the speed of the unit military train with my radar thingy. It had 332 axles. Thanks Matt for letting me know about the train! Matt has awesome train videos so check out his channel and subscribe. The radar thingamajig was brought back by popular demand. I will be using it off and on so don't worry, it's not going away. Right before I filmed the military train I filmed my fasted train yet and it was led by the Pennsylvania Railroad Heritage Unit. That is the 3rd time in the past few months that I have filmed that locomotive leading a train. This video also shows Norfie hanging out under my bird feeders. She stays in the house most of the time so hopefully she won't try to catch my birds.
I listened for the military train on 160.230 along the 3 track mainline in Kentucky. When I got there all the lights on the line side signals were red. About 15 minutes or so before the train came I noticed a clear signal on Track 1. Then I heard a faint transmission on my radio from the leading locomotive followed by chirping from the end of train device. I have filmed 4 military trains recently and this is the longest one. What is all of the equipment on this train? Leave a comment below. Filmed April 27, 2022.
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

So those are all Navy vehicles? I tried pausing several times to see if I could read bumper numbers... but i could just barely not read any of them. If army vehicles, bumper numbers can tell you where they originated from. You just have to know the right numbers to spot

    • @robertf3479
      @robertf3479 Před 2 lety

@@davidkrappenschitz1424 No, they aren't Navy ... Army, Army Reserve or National Guard I think. The SeaBees do own a number of those types as do the Marines, but not all to my knowledge. SeaBee and Marine vehicles use bumper unit IDs also but like you I couldn't read any of the few I could see.

Another nice catch Jaw Tooth. This was a bit of an odd routing but this was actually a unit from the 82nd Airborne @ Fort Bragg ~ Fayetteville, NC returning from JRTC Training in Louisiana. In particular the equipment was from the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team 82nd Airborne @ Fort Bragg, NC returning from JRTC Training Rotation 22-06 @ Fort Polk, LA. The train came up north on KCS to Rose Lake, IL where CSX took over it then snaked its way back home. Normally these moves head across the southern states to & from JRTC & 82nd Airborne.
Vehicles from 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB), 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB), 407th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) & 73rd Cavalry Regiment.
Most of the train are various Hummers or HMMWV's. (A small breakdown)
Cars 6-8 are M997A3 HMMWV Tactical Ambulances
@ 2:34 is the new infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) carries 9 troops based on Chevy Colorado ZR2 (Minus body)
@ 2:41 is a (LMTV) Light Medium Tactical Vehicle the train has several with armored & unarmored cabs
@ 2:42 is a (HEMTT) Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (US Army's tactical semi truck, they also use standard semi's)
@ 2:55 is the M984 HEMTT Tow Truck
The 2nd to last car has (2) High Mobility Engineer Excavator (HMEE) TYPE III
The last car has what I think are John Deere 624KR Wheel Loaders (But I could be wrong on the make & model)

That train came threw Greene, Iowa on April 17th. It came out of a fort in northern Minnesota. CP had 4 SD60’s pull them to where the Iowa Northern line start’s in Plymouth, Iowa. They hooked up 4 SD40-2’s and 4 SD40-2 slugs with no cabs and pulled the military train to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where I think the UP took over from there.

Tamper and a ballast regulator in the siding! Regulator can brush up ballast and move it up the track as well as forming the ballast shoulder to give track stability from sideways movement. It also leaves the ties clear of stray ballast which would cause water to sit on the tie and cause premature rotting of the ties.

No, the best military train was the one we made, but that was 40 so years ago. I have to be honest, it was in another country and another continent. We had to load and unload our own armored cavalry vehicles at Graf and Hohenfels. Once the Bundesbahn routed our train from Stuttgart to Munich then! Nuremberg finally arriving at Grafenwohr MTA. The military in Europe was low priority. I saw a lot of southern Germany on military trains.

Thank you for docimenting these two trains, Jaw Tooth! Most of those military vehicles were personnel carriers. They were probably armored vehicles to protect the occupants. The military vehicles were probably being transferred from one military base to another. That Norfolk Southern grain train had a lot of covered grain hopper cars that were rusty and messy looking on the outside. I sure hope that the inside of those covered grain hopper cars are better looking on the inside. The outside looks of some of those covered grain hopper cars make it obvious that the owners of the cars are not spending any money to repaint the cars.

You have Fort Campbell, KY in the area. As for the radar-gun shooting, it head-on would give you better knowledge, with the target coming towards you a better reading than glancing off of the side as you are doing. Watch the cops, they shoot front or rear for accurate readings, not from the side. Retired LEO, BTDT.

What the train crew did after seeing Jaw Tooth. " NS 8164 to dispatch. There's a Foamier at mile post 13.2 shooting at us with a laser gun!" LOL😂
