    The King didn't tax anyone, Parliament did. This was post-Revolution of 1688, the Crown had no direct governmental authority.

    Please edit this travesty. Rum originated in Barbados. The first documented sale of rum actually occurred in the 1600s from Barbados and this was several years after the first production of the spirit.

    • @Flaviar
      @Flaviar  Před 2 lety

      While researching this subject, we found that most sources stated that the first form of rum first originated on the island of Nevis. A 1651 document from Barbados does indeed the first official sale of this.
      However, rum production was also recorded in Brazil in the 1520s, and many historians believe that rum found its way to Barbados along with sugarcane and its cultivation methods from Brazil.

    Pretty cool video, but I think it's a little tone-deaf to talk about Rum's origin's in such a brief and lighthearted way. There's some dark and bloody history there and I think it does people a disservice to just breeze right through it like it was some kind of group science project between slaves and plantation owners... I realize it's outside of the scope of this video, but I just want you to consider that. Thank you for at least touching on it.

    I hope your history of rum is more accurate than your history of the American Revolution! The colonists "revolted" because Britain forbade the expansion of land ownership and slavery west of the colonies and large plantation owners like Washington wanted to increase their land and slave holdings westward. Taxation had little to do with it.
