  • The sE Electronics DynaCaster is a very attractively priced microphone, and seems like it should work well on the same sources as a Shure SM7B. In this video I compare the two microphones on a voiceover and check out all the features on each.

    Bought the Dynacaster a week ago and I'm as happy as I could possibly be. For me it's a more versatile SM7B, especially regarding the Dynamite preamp as well as the Settings on the back of the microphone. You can essentially make this microphone fit any voice you put Infront of it without major EQ and post processing, and that's it's greatest strength.

    Great detail in the high end with SE Electronics mic. Think I'm going to buy one

    I've just ordered the Dynacaster, and will couple it through a DBX 286s for broadcast (amateur "HAM" radio). I feel pretty sure this will be an excellent combination for real-time broadcast, IMHO.

      A hidden gem for sure. In my experience sE have always been really fair on pricing, so hopefully it stays so I can grab another!

    Between the SE V7 and the DynaCaster, SE has a very strong line up for price/usage.

      totally agree but you can also add to that list the Neom which is currently the best usb mic, or some others like the T2 etc.
      sE electronics is definitely a brand you should take into consideration when you want to purchase a new mic 👍👍

    There is no comparison Shure SM7B is centered in focus, mid range focused and is in the back center area, the Dynacaster is more up front and has more side sound capture. It is clear now why the Shure SM7B is still used after all these years. These sublet changes could be due to the grill and sound foam material used on the SM7b ( the foam insert changes the frequencies captured). Good review and I want to thank you for the NO DISTRACTING cinematic video setup I can't stand to watch any video with that blur and lights crap in the backgrounds.

      Thanks for watching! You mentioned the foam on the SM7B; if you check the rest of my channel you’ll see a video comparing it with and without foam that may be of interest 🙂

    This mic is aimed to compromise RE-20 and SM7B, I think. By the way, it's a top address mic, but why you spoke with side address style.

    I commented before about how much I love this mic. I have one issue and I'm wondering if anyone else is having it as well. Noise floor? I have really good Kashmir pre-amps and if I keep my input around 10 or 11 o'clock, I get considerable hiss in my voiceover. If I turn off the dynamite pre, I'm cranking my other pre's up too high as well. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks.

    • @SamLoose
      @SamLoose  Před 2 lety +2

      That’s an interesting one. I can honestly say I’ve never had an issue with noise when using the dynamite booster. Using it as a dynamic and cranking the gain never really leads to much noise either 🤔

      @@SamLoose DynaCaster uses V7 capsule, Se V7 is a stage mic for singing only (it's good only at very close range), V7 is not a broadcast mic, in fact it's midiocer for spoken word, V7 does not have enough articulation, SM7b is better in every way, it works great at long distance, short distance, it has better articulation and so on. Again V7 is good for singing at stage (only singing!) it's not good for spoken word, V7 has poor articulation, V7 does not work well at long range, it sounds thin, DynaCaster is ok at it's price but it's not even close to SM7b.........DynaCaster is just another attempt to make a broadcast style mic, i would say it did not work that well, but it's good for the price and it's compact and convinient.

    • @SamLoose
      @SamLoose  Před 2 lety +5

      To each their own 👍 I’ve not actually used the SM7B since I got the DynaCaster; I just don’t feel the need to reach for it. They’re both great mics. Thanks for watching!

      @@michaelsi6770 That's an interesting opinion. I regularly use the V7 on an electric guitar cabinet and a snare, and it sounds better than the sm57, the Sennheiser e696, and several other mics we have tested above and below it's price point. You also mention something about it needing to be very close to it's source, that's a general rule for most dynamics. It's actually one of the most desirable qualities about dynamic microphones. The Sm7b actually has this effect stronger than any other dynamic microphone I have tested, and that specialization is a large part of why it is so in demand.
      I am very surprised you think the sm7b is good for micing distant from the source. In my experience, it is the worst mic I have ever encountered for this kind of application. The dropoff with distance is very severe compared to almost any other mic. It's interesting that we have had such a different experience with the same microphone.
