The word "abuse" is thrown around in so many different contexts to refer to so many different levels of problematic behaviour that in the context of trying to show people what to avoid doing and how to avoid it calling it abusive could make people less likely to listen to the core of the message. People are complex. We all have things we do well and things we do poorly, and this applies when restricting ourselves to the context of interpersonal relations as well.

My ex got super mad at me because i took her to dinner at this fancy place and the waitress who seated us had on a metal necklace that looked handcrafted. I value my crafts so i obviously struck up a conversation about her necklace to find out who made it and how i can potentially make one for my lover too. However my lover at the time, the now ex-lover, was positive that I was just staring at the girls chest. That was a total WTF moment because she was there for the entirety of the conversation and HEARD everything we said to each other, AND the waitress was way young and flat-chested. I was thrown in for a total loop at my ex's hostile reaction, she barely spoke to me the whole date and the whole way back home. I know I'm a faithful man but there was no way for me to get it through her thick skull, so I had to end it before she disrespected me further.
And probably the reason for her behaviour isn’t even that. It’s probably something stupid that has been boiling in her head from earlier. I ended a relationship with a girl who behaved in a similar manner recently. Nothing is more painful than being punished for trying to be a caring partner.
Men generally require 3 things. 1. Contentment. 2. Peace. 3. Joy. If he's a decent bloke, odds are if you are providing those things he invests in you. If you arent? He's going to find things that do. This is kind of the subconcious motivation for why he might splurge and buy a boat.
