      Had a chance to drive a 2019 4dr JL-U and i was flat out amazed at its handling and ride on the highway. Never would have thought a blunderbuss with live axles front and rear could carve the road like, and even soak up bumps better than a sweet-riding sedan. Gotta say those engineers did a great job.

    Just bought my 2012 JK Unlimited last month and I love it. Gas mileage is up compared to my previous 2009 model and the new one is much more powerful. It's super quiet too. I got Bluetooth in mine and my wife continues to claim it's quieter when I talk to her on my cellphone over the Bluetooth.

    Jeeps used to be affordable. Now they're in the same price range as a BMW. They need to return to their roots and make them lighter, smaller and cheaper but at the same time keeping them offroad worthy.

    We have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited and trust me it is a surprisingly good commuter, other than the gas mileage, the 6-speed manual is great and the ride is surprisingly well, even with aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. There is a strange feel that makes this fun-to-drive, it doesn't handle well, but it just makes you want to drive it. I wouldn't have an automatic in one, it just isn't really good during off road maneuvers.

    Just sold my 2008 Sahara 4 door (Lease Return) and will in the future buy another one. I had two complaints with mine the 3 years I owned it. The interior fit/finish which they updated in 2011, and the lack of power from the 3.8 V6 which of course now is the new 3.6 V6 Pentastar making 83 more HP and 23 lb-ft of Torque. Awesome vehicle if you live in snow country like I do.

    At 2:37 he's wrong about the automatic transmission not shifting on it's own while in manual mode. It down shifts and goes into first at a stop and will even downshift when you lug in in 4th. How do I know? I own a 2014 Wrangler Sport. I like this feature. However it does not up shift so you can control your power and shift point manually. It's very much like a clutch less manual transmission. I like it. BTW if anyone get's on me about purchasing an automatic Wrangler, well I just crushed my pelvis ( again) in a motorcycle crash and I now have rod's in one leg so I needed to go without a clutch.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey Před 10 lety +1

      One thing to remember is that the programming between the 2012 and later models is different. The 2012 5-speed was a Euro Merc sourced tranny with original programming, and will hold the gear longer while the 2013 and 2014 were US 5-speed made by Jeep/Fiat under license from Mercedes and they had different programming including shift points and slower shifting for longevity and MPG concerns.
      Anywhooo, BOTH will shift down to 1st when stopped, which is annoying if you want to "start in 2nd" on icey intersections like I could do in my old GrandPrix back in the early 90s. The Wrangler will show 2nd but it'll just be the "max gear" at that point, not current gear and then will stick to 2nd until stopped again.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey Před 10 lety +1

      Still hoping they move to ZF trannys in the near future for both Manual and Auto, with the 7-speed manual (with [7DCT] dual-clutch/paddles or without [7MT]) and the 8-speed auto currently found in the RAM & GrandCherokee, either of which would make pushing the brick through the wind more efficient as well as give better low-end ratios/grunt for the off-road. I want either of those more than a diesel option (because diesel in extreme cold unplugged sucks).
      Although would still like the "start in 2nd option for the Auto, but would likely go with the 7-speed ZF if it were multi-clutch since it wouldn't be such a headache in stop-go driving the way the current 6-speed is (I don't mind on the 2010 at the cottage but would hate it for day to day on traffic jams in Calgary going up steep hills stopping every 10-20 feet).

  • @KnightShadey
    @KnightShadey Před 10 lety +2

    For the 0-60 and quarter-mile testing they should have chosen the Rubicon with 4.10 gearing, as the Sahara with 3.21 (they didn't even get the 3.73 ? ) and that would affect the off-the-line performance dramatically. The slight 7lb penalty for the Rubicon would be more than made up for by the better ratio, although you'd prefer the Sahara Dueler or SportS SR-A tires for traction versus the MTs of the Rubicon.
    The 3.21 ratio would hurt acceleration, but perhaps they wanted to focus on the mileage #s which would be slightly better than on the higher ratio.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey Před 10 lety +1

      The difference is quite noticeable, as is the tires. Why do you think drag racers use 3.73 gears as a 'starting point'? If you are going to measure it, might as well measure it correctly, with proper tires (the 17" SRAs at least) and the proper gear ratio (at least the 3.73 and preferably the 4.1). Otherwise just run the 0-60 with 4 occupants and 200lbs worth of gear as well. If they're going to take a measurement which means little to most Wrangler owners to begin with (I don't know anyone who cared about 0-60 vs MPG or HP/torque. They might as well make it fair so you can compare it to other vehicles that they're trying to use this pointless 0-60 # for anyways.
      I have compared my Rubi with the 4.1 to a friend's Sport with the 3.21 and it is deffinitely noticeable the difference in acceleration despite him having the SRAs and me having BFG Duelers (the Sahara's tires) at the time now Duratracs which are noticeably slower despite similar tread footprint/rolling resistance because they weigh 10lbs more per tire.

    • @wranglerlife4ever42
      @wranglerlife4ever42 Před 6 lety +1

      I dont think Wrangler owners care much about 0-60 times or 1/4mi times and trap speeds (or fuel economy for that matter). But, its definately vastly improved over the 07-10 versions. The new JL is amazing....but you will pay a hefty price for the new JL.

    @coolgames14 I'm not hopeful for Chrysler; since 1997, the company has been in European hands due to corporate bungling and mistakes, going all the way back to Lee Iacocca's tenure.
    I like some of the offerings, but we need a real affordable performance car and the Challenger ain't it. They haven't given us anything like that since 1974 and I think the remedy is one of the sporty concept cars they've shown over the years, like the Copperhead.
