I used to vacation there from 1977 to 1996 and was going to open up a pizza place there and I had lots of friends living there. But most moved away because crime started get too out of hand there gangs. Houses getting broken in to and more than once. Drugs. Assaults and more. So most got out of there. So sad. Because Elsinore was so wonderful at one time. So now. I'm going to San Clemente close to beach. Less crime. I will miss places I used to go to in Elsinore. But not worth the crime shit and driving the dangerous Ortega highway people are using that road for all kinds of bad things

Lake Elsinore used to be a Bitchen place to go Boating for the weekend when I was about 18-19 years old. It was always Crowded though.
My friends and I used to take our Boats there to Tune them up and made sure they were Ready for the Summer Colorado River Runs because it was real close to home. I lived in Orange County. It was nice until "The Elsinore Flood". It was never the same after that..
I remember vividly going out on the Lake for the last time water-skiing. It was about a year or two after the Flood right after the Campground was reopened. I skiied from the Launch ramp all the way to the Airport on the east side of the lake which was still mostly under water and I happened to look down once and noticed in the murky water about 8 inches down, the top of a Friggin Chain Link Fence!!!
Can you imagine hitting something like that at about 45mph?
I had them drive me all the way back to the launch area without stopping because I was afraid what I might run into... It really scared the crap out of me...Catching a fence like that would definitely "Shred" you to pieces for sure.
I never got in that water again after that. Although we'd see Street signs sticking up out of the water. You just didn't know what was just below the surface.
Oh, also I noticed the front of my Bathing Trunks and my Legs were a moldy mossy green after getting out of the Scummy water that day too...the water even smelled bad...
I've heard they've cleaned it up a lot but I have long ago, gotten rid of my Boat so I haven't been back there in years...even though I live only about 15-20 miles away, in Perris now....

I wish you would have drove by the lake. I used to swim in it when i was a kid about 35 years ago. It was so nasty you couldn't see your hand in front of your face under water.
