That and Evolve. I think those two would be awesome Matt would crush it!
Can you do a whahappun on no man's sky?!
Final Fantasy XIV v1.0 deserves a Wha Happun episode. Sqeenix had to NUKE that game from orbit.
A Battlefront 2 Wha Happun would be interesting, because it has a more or less happy ending. Despite all the release controversy (and richly deserved it was) the game went on to sell more than 33million copies and might well be the best selling game EA has ever published.
A What Happened on Driver 3? It's an infamous disaster that killed the franchise, Atari that published it and a couple of gaming news/reviewer outlets, very interesting stuff.
Yeah Matt, it's definitely time to do a "What Happun?" on Battlefield 2042. It definitively needs one.

@POOL'S CLOSED DUE TO CRONA AIDS That's a real dumb hill to die on. The game failed because EA fucked up the marketing and made a mediocre multiplayer. Not because of the gender of some characters in a story mission in a fictional, expressly non documentary WW2 story. Just cause your fragile little ego gets shaken to the core at the thought of playing as a woman in a video game, doesn't mean that's why it failed.

Watching this now, it's hillarious seeing time repeat itself, even if for a different reason
Okay, you have to mention the fact that despite saying women DID serve in ww2, DICE did not include any of the militaries or factions that had women in it. There were no Soviets, Partisans, Chinese Forces (until way later), French Resistance, Polish Armja Krajowa or any other faction that historically DID include women. Instead, the women focused missions that they did had instead chose to erase the real life heroic deeds of the Norwegian resistance by replacing them with a fictional civilian mother and daughter duo.
I agree. As a woman I felt this game tried to use us as a selling point when they actually didn't even bothered to make a cohesive story. What they did was to slap a weird, non sensical character that had no explanation of being over a broken, bugged, badly done game and tried to use it as a shield against criticism. In the end, because of lazy, stupid moves like this, there are many who automatically get angry over female game characters(specially as a protagonist).
@@tinazlk8854 Agreed, What sucks is I personally would of loved a story or multiple of woman who actually fought in the war, Would of been awesome to see things from a new perspective but sadly no. @@ExpertContrarian as i said they should have focused on REAL woman soldiers from world war 2
I ended up getting the game, and while I enjoyed it, it just wasn't as good as 1, plus I didn't like the fact that they took an actual event with a team of Norwegian commandos that took down an entire heavy water facility without firing a single shot, and replaced the team with a mother-daughter duo. 9 games in a year, and only one is above the mediocre line.
The reason Firestorm was abandoned was because Criterion was originally the ones doing Firestorm, the same Criterion from Battlefront 2. When Firestorm was released EA most likely put Criterion somewhere else and gave Firestorm over to Dice. They pushed out the small changes Criterion had made to the map and then called it a day, right after they threw away Duo's of course to try and save the queues saying it would "come back" eventually as events, they never did.
So Dice was left with both BF5 base game, 2 other game modes AND Firestorm which was behind a paywall. A fucking disaster

I'm sure 2042 turned out great and is beloved by fans and developers alike.....right?
So I joined a bf platoon while playing bf1. They thought I was fun to play with and ended up joining a good sized group with good, dedicated battlefield players (one of my friends had the highest bomber score in the world). I remember when the controversy of having women in it happened. it's cuz not only was she a female on the front lines but she had a prosthetic arm. Then to top it off EA acted like if you don't like it don't play it. so people didnt
Jesus, this sounds like a nighttime campfire story.
It is seriously wishful thinking that EA will give any of it's dev's time to polish and finish their games...ever! EA know only one rule, get it in store shelves by X date no matter what...*sigh*
The problem with the first trailer for V was not the VVomen it was the epic tryhard Fortniteness of it.
"I hope that the next Battlefield will have enough polish, bug testing, and content at launch..."
Let me put it this way, Matt: I bought 2042 at launch. I returned it the same day, and the GameStop cashier didn't even care that I already played it, he was just like, "Yeah, this game sucks, I don't blame you for returning it." I got Modern Warfare instead.
Battlefront 2 is the only game dice has made since BF4 that I have had alot of fun with
Well to be honest the big reason why so many fans disliked the first trailer wasn't mainly because of women(though that certainly was a factor).
It was mainly because of historical inauthenticity, something that BF1 never had a problem with. It is one thing to see a woman in soldier uniform and absolutely another to see a woman with mechanical arms and facepainting in battle. The marketing simply didn't preset the game correctly and the game itself had a lot of problems with being authentic to WW2.
Battlefield V was teased and torn apart, its launch was flaccid, it had some mediocre fun for a while, and then they decided to go against all of the fans say and patch the game to require a million bullets to kill someone. This game stunk from the start and fizzled out as a fart.
I love the battlefield series, but this game was awful. you can still see the stink lines on it.
Well anyone with a brain listened to them, if you don't like it, don't buy it...
Weird how Matt never bothered to touch upon this moment; it might as well have been the killing blow for the game before it was even released.
might not align with his political perspective
If we keep going like this, the answer to the question:
"What Happened?"
will be:
"EA Happened..."
Okay ngl, this episode is bonkers when you know what happened next and what a grand release bf2042 was. Cant wait for ep!
