- Exploring Soldotna Alaska
The city of Soldotna is located in south central Alaska. The city is famous for it's world-class fishing for king salmon and the fall sockeye salmon fishing runs, attracting anglers of all ages from around the world. If you love fishing, hiking, going on a day to float the river or exploring to see moose, caribut and other big game animals, put Soldotna on your list of places to visit when going to Alaska. Plus, I share the story of Soldotna's most famous fisherman and the world record king salmon caught back in 1985!
And remember, the outdoors is a gift, share it with others.

Another favorite spot of my in Alaska is Homer. Check out my exploring Homer video here: czcams.com/video/SdmCEnIhldw/video.html
I used to live there! I'm going back next year!
Awesome. How long ago did you live in Soldotna? I'm looking to buy a fishing cabin on the river there at some point.
@@WillyFish Nearly 4 years.
@@rileyblea3076 Very cool.
@@WillyFish Thank you.
Its ruined
I could never understand my father in law's fascination with fishing and hunting Alaska. I figured where he had his cabin in NY was good enough salmon fishing. (I know I loved it) But this helped me understand. A great video with lots of interesting information and gorgeous scenery. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thank you. I was drawn to Alaska because it has so many different places to fish and so many species to go after. There's always an adventure around the next corner.
l have lived in the Soldotna/Kasilof area for 16 years. Soldotna and kenai and mostly known for their bad drivers lol. Great video man, when people think of Alaska they just think of snow and cold.
Thank you Little Biggie! There are some bad drivers for sure - must be people trying to get to their secret fishing hole!!!
I grew up in Soldotna thanks for the video! Brought back so many memories. Les actually went to my church! It was a great catch that's for sure
That's awesome Joseph! Les' story is amazing!
Oh how I love soldotna, another great video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! It was the first place I spent a lot of time at on my first trip to Alaska. And if I were to move to Alaska or live in Alaska for the summer, I would be in Soldotna!
@@WillyFish most definitely, me too!
I was just going through youtube and this video popped up on my recommended. Super ironic because I live here.
Awesome! I hope to have place on the Kenai River someday!!!
I took the wildest tumble of my life on my bike when I was a kid, right down the bank next to the bridge right behind you on the other side of the river, I think I did a flip and a few rolls.
wow!. And that's a pretty steep bank too.
I live in soldotna born and raised
Me too
Ok, I'm visiting Soldotna in August, so a few questions, will bears come to the river while fishing, and is there a lot of wild life there?.. thank you in advance
Jut caught a 19.6 lbs coho 1 week ago in Soldotna ,,,, down below the Soldotna park. Tight lines.
Nice. That's a good spot to catch some big fish. I think the coho and sockeye are just bigger this year than in years prior. Tight lines, get after a 20lber!
Awesome video!!
Thank you - much appreciated!
Wow, wow, wow. You've convinced me.... What an awesome place to fish! 👍🙏🎣⚒
If you haven't gone to Soldotna and fished, you have to put it on your list of places to go! Salmon, trout fishing, hiking. Let's go!!!
@@WillyFish It's on my radar now.... But first, big kings are running through my stomping grounds. So I'll be busy for the next couple of months. LOL.
@@JUNationFishing Get after them! Buoy 10 opened on the 14th, so folks have been chasing kings!
I need Alaska in my life.
Go make it happen!
@@WillyFish 2021 hopefully!
@@ShellymanStudios Nice! I'm already planning out my Alaska trip for next year. Big halibut fishing trip, maybe learning to fly fish for trout.
@@WillyFish i live in soldotna and fly fishing is super fun there in a place in homer on the spit thats has really good silver salmon
@@brickey9212 I have a super long list of goals and things I want to achieve and learn. Fly fishing is one on the list I really want to do more of and get proficient in. And I would love to fly fish the Kenai and Homer at some point in the near future. Hope to see you out there next time I'm in Soldotna chasing sockeye or coho!!!
I'm researching moving to Alaska. I've been focusing on the Fairbanks and surrounding areas, Homer and Surrounding areas and Wasilla/Palmer areas but someone had mentioned to me since i love to hunt and fish to look into the Soldotna area. Is the hunting any good around Soldotna? I am trying to get information about the cost of living and taxes as well for the different areas I have been looking into. Even though Alaska's cost of living is higher. Alaska doesn't have the taxes that we have here.
Near Soldotna there are opportunities for hunting. The fishing is world-class and you are close to so many outdoor adventures.
Born and raised in soldotna! Hope you had a good time & experience!
I always have a good time in Soldotna. One of my favorite places to go fishing!

I've heard the k0vid religion isn't being pushed out there . Is that actually true or what ?
🧊
Same
Do they still have a giant King salmon mounted in a display case at the visitor center? I thought it weighed 97 plus pounds.
Yes, the visitor center still has the wooden replica salmon!
I live there i can confirm that i have stod were he has
I am visiting Soldotna in a few days we might move
Nice! Let me know what you think of Soldotna in the winter.
Aka, Slow dot na.
LOL!
I remember when that tourist caught that record salmon.
Still the record today.
Les as wasn't a tourist. He had been in the area since after WW2. He was a partner in Peninsula Ford for a time. He caught that record Chinook in an old john boat with a 35hp Yamaha. Les was very humble. After he was recognized as the record holder, he got just about every gift you can imagine from tackle companies wanting his endorsement. There was even a Rolex from one.

l live in Soldotna and l thought that wooden statue was an ugly piece of junk until this video lol!
Haha. I love the statue! It's a part of the city history!!!
0:06 we are?
They should change the name of this town from Soldotna to Rich-White-Knight-Save-A-Hoe city.
Soldotna is ruined. Stay home
