- In this video, I am fishing with my friends Stav and Liam!
We are at a super flooded URBAN creek, and we are using some huge bluegill as bait! We end up finding some MONSTERS in right under us in the urban structure !

We settled for 3 or 4 inch blues from Blue Lake in Portland Or. Mom cooked them up for us. She would have loved to see us bring home some 8 inchers. Dang...

@Patrick Cooper- when I go to my famioy fiah camp from Baton Rouge (my home) to fish camp south Alabama(Tom bigbee river) and my moms been having a blast catching big ole almost 1 pounders 40-50 of the em right off the pier keeping them In a plastic 50 gallon drum with hundreds of drilled holes we leave in river as river live bait drum. For bait or to keep to skin and cook. And she came back checking on her big break and I stole about 25-30 of them along with the 25 I caught in boat that morning to bait my catfish trot lines 40-50 hooks on each of the 3 I had out that trip and 20 limb lines with one hook each and 15/20 jug lines we set in lake the camp is on we can watch from up on balcony of camp then go ride out and check as they get bites and we see the jugs going down or swimming opposite of tide/water flow! 😂 anyway I caught about 400 lbs of catfish when I checked All 180 hooks the next morning and 75 of them had big bream on them with a big circle hook! Multiples over 25, 2 over 50 that days and a lot a lot of 10-20 lbers. Best catfish day ever! Lol
I think the most impressive thing about your fishing skills, is the different bodies of waters you are successful in. You have caught big fish in just about every water you can think of. Veteran anglers know how impressive that is. Great job, brother.

If I caught a bluegill that size he would be coming home for dinner! I honestly thought you using one that size was too large to use as bait, but I was wrong! Epic flathead fishing!

Do you not realize big fish usually like to eat big bait? I recently got into using larger lures and baits, and ever since I did I have been catching fish I've only dreamed about.
From my somewhat extensive freshwater fishing experiences, I can unequivocally say that Flatheads are one of the best tasting freshwater fish available. Their flesh (surprisingly, their belly muscles) are very similar in texture and taste to saltwater scallops, but I believe they are even better (sweeter) tasting.
Since they have a relatively slow growth rate for freshwater fish (that apparently never stops), we only harvest younger ones under 20-pounds and always release the older/larger ones. We've caught several around the 60 - 75-pound size over the past decades.
Needless to say, they're great fun/sport to catch and release.
Have you noticed a different taste between the small ones, what we always called plate size, and the larger ones?

Once you land a good flat head you'll be hooked! Lol. For real though. My very first was around 25 lbs and my biggest was 65. I miss the creeks and rivers and lakes of Kansas. I live I Oregon now and we have big fish but I have no clue what I'm doing without catfish! 🤣

Don't be afraid of big baits, the last 50lb flathead I caught was on a 2 lb shad. I love the bobber fishing!

I caught a 52 pound flattie on a 16 inch 3 pound live shad before. These big flatheads will devour things up to almost a quarter pound of there size, that is able to fit inside their mouth. This was a great vid!! When you’re fishing with big live bait, don’t be afraid to de scale it prior to casting. Flatheads will take the time to descale their prey prior to eating it when it’s big.

Great video and those cat's looked so much fun, especially on the young lad's (Liam) lighter kit. I'm not a fan of live bait fishing although I did it a lot on Ascension Island but I know how effective it is for predators. Maybe just my age and I have a different attitude. I'll probably live bate roach for some pike over the winter 😀

Small creeks after a good rain usually brings some serious good flathead fishin'! Dont ever let small waters fool ya! We have some of the best flathead fishing here in Kansas too.
