Imagine if the CP's betrayed the Combine and join the Resistance after seeing the battle of City 17 was lost instead of figthing to death because by the time of Episode 2 the entire CP of City 17 it's seem to be wiped out.

You know, I just noticed; A Combine randomly dies during the "30 seconds to singularity" message without any radio chatter for help. In fact, just a few seconds before it was reported there was no hostile activity. I think the guy shot himself when he realised they were going to die in the explosion in half a minute.
Yup, that was Defender-3, however it is possible that he got shot by the rebels, which quickly ran away and when airwatch scanned the area they did not find anyone.

If you think about it, nearly no one is really evil in HL2 besides the combine leaders. Synths are enslaved, CPs just want better living conditions, soldiers are brainwashed, and Breen tried to do what was best for everyone
Breen may have initially acted with the best intentions, but his time as Administrator of Earth made him disconnected with humanity and ignorant to their suffering under Combine rule. His monologue at the end of the game really showed how selfish he was. He didn't care about what was best for everyone, just appeasing his masters in order save himself from their wrath. He may not have been inherently "evil", but Doctor Breen was definitely cowardly and self-serving. Instead of standing up and fighting back, he sacrificed his people to save his own life, and in the end, he died the way he lived: Scared and alone.
The nihilanth only wanted the best for the xenians, xen wildlife killed scientist in black mesa because they werent familiar with that place, the vortigaunts were enslaved and the H.E.C.U only followed orders.
The depth in this game is what makes it so marvelous. They don’t just do the basic AI with the necessary voice lines, they go above and beyond. I am so passionate about hl2 I don’t think it’s normal

The f2p Pyro when you atack nova prospect you can hear the combine radio "primary target is uhh?....primary target has...tactical C&C of biotics." He is getting shocked that freeman is using antlions to atack the nova prospect And even though their memories are gone and they are thought to be loyal to the Universal Union they feel fear and retreat like how it is in this video. It also talks about "non-mechanical reproduction simulation" which is practically making combines have sex simulations. So even though they are brainwashed and have mechanical parts in their body they are still as human as you and I are.
00 99 yes, they had a great balance of not pushing the story onto a player in general to a point of the game being fun without a story but if you look into it you will find a very deep backstory and lore in the half-life universe through sounds, arts and the dialogue

In contrast, I don't think Combine Elites ever speak unless it's necessary to, such as when sending messages over the radio
You are actually correct, if you look at some videos for Combine Elite radio chatter they only say codes and numbers, and occasionally some scattered jargon.
From what ive read and experienced, the only combine who say "shit!" Are the snipers, originally the line is from a CP but for some reason valve decided to put it as a sound the combine sniper makes, maybe mistake, a joke or as a sound cue, the combine yell ripcord or something similar when a granade is near them. In any case the combine sniper is more human than other overwatch soldiers, that is if the line was on purpose

He called in as though he was in a bad spot, to which AirWatch came to confirm enemy locations and found nothing. It was just one small act to at the very least seem brave, right before taking his own life. As to why the shot and death are separate however is weird. I feel as though death was instant, but the pause between the last transmission and death insinuates he was rather in fact knocked unconscious and executed. However, no threats were seen.

This was originally meant to include a short film layered on top, might do something like that in the future.
I actually wanted to have some simple animations, kinda of like menu screens from hl2 throghout this video. I started working on one in hammer actually, but I quickly realized it would take a bit too long to make it the quality I wanted it to be.

Mind you, the combine are HEAVILY augmented humans. The combine has a better chance of struggling against the headcrab's control of its nervous system allowing it to warn the others.

Nomad 4 isn't Civil Protection, it's Zombine.. And it's a bit mixed up: "Protection team" refers to CP team, while "Stabilization team" means squad of combine soldiers.
ceu160193 the original idea was the cp being so desperate they ask for overwatch assistance, but the unit they were requesting was all dead except for the one zombine.
Hearing the Overwatch AI voice say on the radio after the last unit had possibly ended his life "Unit Deserviced, Airwatch copies no activity in location" is quite haunting knowing an AI is giving calls and orders to units no longer in service and its completely alone in a desolate city.
What I love so much about the CP's is how absolutely fucked they were at the end of Half Life 2/Episode 1. They obviously knew that the entire city's going to blow in a matter of hours, but unlike the Overwatch forces don't have the dedication to stay behind and insure the citadel blows and take as many rebels as possible with it. So their only option is to disobey direct orders, which is an *almost* guaranteed death sentence unless they can find protection. Yet if they try to seek refuge with the rebels in evacuating the city they're practically guaranteed to be lynched by the rebels who, only a few weeks earlier, were being beaten senseless by them. Their only option is to try and become a third party and seize evac points for themselves, which is why you have to fight a squad of them off at the end of Episode one. The Overwatch forces only really care about killing freeman, but the CP's only care about not dying. Honestly if there was ever a Half Life game in the vein of Opposing Force, it'd have to be the CP's that are focused on.
The CP are not bio-mechanically modified and are just normal humans who have that job. So when things went bad they could probably think like humans were as the other combine are obligated and can't deny orders.
@@SirKolass Probably, given the situation the Rebels may not deny news guns, members and body armor from defecting CP Units, but there's the realistic chance of CPs being beaten or killed on the spot as payback for basically being race traitors last week, guess it depends how lucky the units are to meet a band of rebels feeling desperate for help The ones who banded together to try and steal evac points for themselves probably had no faith that the rebels could actually fight off the Combine, or assumed that there's no way they can merge with them and they can't stick with the Overwatch either, so the only option they assumed would work was going rogue
That ending was really interesting. The fact that there was a robot voice counting down the time to the singularity. Which means someone had to program the system to recognize that possibility as even being an option. Which is a bit of a shocker to me. I'm pretty sure the combine wouldn't do that. They don't want the human race to survive, or at least not without them. And as such, I can't imagine the combine wuld let the humans know of the potential possibility regarding the singularity, just so they could encode the count down warning into the electronic system of the facility. This has gman written all over it!

This message was only meant for combine to hear, as they never expected someone that isn't affiliated with the combine to ever make it up there I fail to see the relevance of your statement
I'm pretty sure it's not a voice supposed to be triggered at an event, rather I think it is a low-level AI tasked with informing Overwatch and Civil Protection of events and orders. It probably realized what's going on and merely contacted Soldiers to move out of the city.
Makes me wonder how many CPs switched sides during the uprising. Surely a fair number ditched the Combine and surrendered and then joined the Rebels, assuming they were weren't executed for betraying their species of course, probably a lot of resentment for that. But if Barney was able to infiltrate the CPs then surely others had to as well. Really makes me wish we had Rebels wearing CP unifroms with the Lambda symbol painted on it, either taken from CPs, or Rebel spies. Would have been cool to see.

@OS Arktis The thing is, a Civil Protection officer wouldn't become a Zombine if headcrabbed, that only happens to Soldiers and the like, since they have been heavily modified, both mentally and physically, unlike the CPs, which are just normal people. Besides, CPs don't use the same protocol-names/codewords (? as soldiers. But yeah, I also support the Zombine's willpowrr theory, I think, in a quick moment of control, the soldier pulls out the grenade and yells "Bouncer!" to alarm nearby allies as to not get them killed, the headcrab then takes back control and starts running at them.

It’s quite ironic that the CMB reward the higher CP’s with mental sexual stimulation (MSS), as in one of the breencasts, Dr. Breen mentions how he will turn off the suppression field when humanity finally can suppress human instinct without the help of the machine, and the start of suppressing said instinct is to suppress the urge to reproduce as a species...and by giving MSS to the CP’s, you are growing the urge and instinct of wanting to have sexual experiences with a partner...so either Breen is lying about turning off the suppression field, or the combine lie about giving MSS for every 100 kills...then again, there is probably some hidden sexual scandals between CP officers and a few Female citizens...and the fact is that the MSS is not told to citizens during the signup for becoming an CP until you are an official CP, mainly because the rebels voice lines never say they want to join the CP’s to get MSS...however, it’s just speculation

It says NOMAD 4 NOMAD 4 IS from the Nova Prospect mission so I don't think he is part of CP. Nomad 4 is the first bunker you encounter.

This line is actually pretty revealing, considering that it's spoken by the Overwatch Soldiers, and not the Civil Protectors, in response to seeing a grenade near themselves. The tendency of the standard Combine Soldiers to use expletives in response to stressful situations means that they aren't 100% brainwashed zombies, they just can't disobey their superiors. In contrast, I don't think Combine Elites ever speak unless it's necessary to, such as when sending messages over the radio
You are actually correct, if you look at some videos for Combine Elite radio chatter they only say codes and numbers, and occasionally some scattered jargon.
From what ive read and experienced, the only combine who say "shit!" Are the snipers, originally the line is from a CP but for some reason valve decided to put it as a sound the combine sniper makes, maybe mistake, a joke or as a sound cue, the combine yell ripcord or something similar when a granade is near them. In any case the combine sniper is more human than other overwatch soldiers, that is if the line was on purpose

He called in as though he was in a bad spot, to which AirWatch came to confirm enemy locations and found nothing. It was just one small act to at the very least seem brave, right before taking his own life. As to why the shot and death are separate however is weird. I feel as though death was instant, but the pause between the last transmission and death insinuates he was rather in fact knocked unconscious and executed. However, no threats were seen.

This was originally meant to include a short film layered on top, might do something like that in the future.

Wow there is so much more to the radio chater than I thought.
Hearing the Overwatch AI voice say on the radio after the last unit had possibly ended his life "Unit Deserviced, Airwatch copies no activity in location" is quite haunting knowing an AI is giving calls and orders to units no longer in service and its completely alone in a desolate city.
What I love so much about the CP's is how absolutely fucked they were at the end of Half Life 2/Episode 1.
They obviously knew that the entire city's going to blow in a matter of hours, but unlike the Overwatch forces don't have the dedication to stay behind and insure the citadel blows and take as many rebels as possible with it.
So their only option is to disobey direct orders, which is an *almost* guaranteed death sentence unless they can find protection. Yet if they try to seek refuge with the rebels in evacuating the city they're practically guaranteed to be lynched by the rebels who, only a few weeks earlier, were being beaten senseless by them.
Their only option is to try and become a third party and seize evac points for themselves, which is why you have to fight a squad of them off at the end of Episode one. The Overwatch forces only really care about killing freeman, but the CP's only care about not dying. Honestly if there was ever a Half Life game in the vein of Opposing Force, it'd have to be the CP's that are focused on.
The CP are not bio-mechanically modified and are just normal humans who have that job. So when things went bad they could probably think like humans were as the other combine are obligated and can't deny orders.
Imagine Half-Life: Barney, about Barney working as an undercover cop...
I think some of the cp squads knew this and banded together and took whatever they could carry and got the hell out of there
I'm pretty sure most CPs joined the rebels like Barney. A few groups of selfish jerks decided to go out and take the trains for themselves.

The ones who banded together to try and steal evac points for themselves probably had no faith that the rebels could actually fight off the Combine, or assumed that there's no way they can merge with them and they can't stick with the Overwatch either, so the only option they assumed would work was going rogue

That ending was really interesting. The fact that there was a robot voice counting down the time to the singularity. Which means someone had to program the system to recognize that possibility as even being an option. Which is a bit of a shocker to me. I'm pretty sure the combine wouldn't do that. They don't want the human race to survive, or at least not without them. And as such, I can't imagine the combine wuld let the humans know of the potential possibility regarding the singularity, just so they could encode the count down warning into the electronic system of the facility. This has gman written all over it!

Overwatch was just announcing the message to Breen and the combine soldiers present during the final stages of the off-world relocation. This message was only meant for combine to hear, as they never expected someone that isn't affiliated with the combine to ever make it up there

I'm pretty sure it's not a voice supposed to be triggered at an event, rather I think it is a low-level AI tasked with informing Overwatch and Civil Protection of events and orders. It probably realized what's going on and merely contacted Soldiers to move out of the city.

Makes me wonder how many CPs switched sides during the uprising. Surely a fair number ditched the Combine and surrendered and then joined the Rebels, assuming they were weren't executed for betraying their species of course, probably a lot of resentment for that. But if Barney was able to infiltrate the CPs then surely others had to as well. Really makes me wish we had Rebels wearing CP unifroms with the Lambda symbol painted on it, either taken from CPs, or Rebel spies. Would have been cool to see.

@OS Arktis The thing is, a Civil Protection officer wouldn't become a Zombine if headcrabbed, that only happens to Soldiers and the like, since they have been heavily modified, both mentally and physically, unlike the CPs, which are just normal people. Besides, CPs don't use the same protocol-names/codewords (? as soldiers.
But yeah, I also support the Zombine's willpowrr theory, I think, in a quick moment of control, the soldier pulls out the grenade and yells "Bouncer!" to alarm nearby allies as to not get them killed, the headcrab then takes back control and starts running at them.

It’s a threat to insure that the remaining officers carry out the “sacrifice code” which I assume means something along the lines of “you are expected to carry out this order to your death.” “Permanent off-world assignment” is not enough of a threat in this context since you at least get to keep your life.

It’s quite ironic that the CMB reward the higher CP’s with mental sexual stimulation (MSS), as in one of the breencasts, Dr. Breen mentions how he will turn off the suppression field when humanity finally can suppress human instinct without the help of the machine, and the start of suppressing said instinct is to suppress the urge to reproduce as a species...and by giving MSS to the CP’s, you are growing the urge and instinct of wanting to have sexual experiences with a partner...so either Breen is lying about turning off the suppression field, or the combine lie about giving MSS for every 100 kills...then again, there is probably some hidden sexual scandals between CP officers and a few Female citizens...and the fact is that the MSS is not told to citizens during the signup for becoming an CP until you are an official CP, mainly because the rebels voice lines never say they want to join the CP’s to get MSS...however, it’s just speculation
