Today I am talking a little buyers remorse because it's trends I regret buying! Sometimes I get influenced and end up thrifting something that doesn't end up quite working how I thought it would!

For me, the only good thing that comes out of trends is that certain items of clothing or accessories can become more accessible for people's specific aesthetics that they may often find hard to come across. I've always had trouble finding items that fit my aesthetic because I don't fall into a 'category' so if an item is suddenly trendy and fits into what I like to wear, it makes it easier to find and buy. But I don't understand why someone would buy something just because it is a trend and not something they'd wear daily or often.
true, when something I love suddenly becomes trendy, I run at the speed of light and buy a bunch of items, because I know how fast all those trends fade away đ
Waiting for someone to make something that fits my aesthetic, but also fits someone bigger than a kid lmao
Yes! I've been looking for mesh turtle necks for years and now that that style (transparent and mesh) is in, I hope I can finally find some in stores
ALEXA SUNSHINE EIGHTY THREE IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY HERE *BOOP*
Always in my head. đ„Čđ
What is the story behind the 83?
@@estherlise Alexaâs birthday is on august the 3rd đ
I always sing this to myself randomly throughout the day lmaooo the influence
Boop!
Last year I thought my style was becoming so ~quirky and fun~ because of all of the prints and colors I was drawn to, but then I realized it was just the trends playing tricks on me đ
Re: the black pleated skirt. I own a few things that I don't need or use but I keep ONLY because if I didn't have them, I'd talk myself into buying them. I have a white button down for that exact reason. Never wear it, but I know if I didn't have it, I'd see someone wear it and think, "I wonder if I'd look good in a white button down." Owning it, keeps me from buying one over and over. So, I vote for you to hang onto the black pleated skirt for that reason, until you're absolutely sure you're done with it.
Oooooh okay I totally get what youâre saying! I think it definitely still has a place just for outfit videos, but I do have a love hate relationship with it haha
Oversized blazers are the trend I regret buying. I know it sounds crazy because, like you feel about so many of the trends you mentioned, I LOVE seeing other people style the oversized blazer. I even kept trying because I liked it so much... I bought like three thinking it was the color, the wrong size, etc. But it just never looked right on me. đ
Me too!!! I was so excited to thrift some linen ones, and when I put them on, it never looked right. Itâs my body proportions, I think
I can't wear blazers, by the time they comfortably fit my shoulders and back my waist is lost. I always feel like I am wearing football pads on my shoulders.
@@virginiakrueger4780 I can totally relate!
They are one of the items that makes me feel like a dude. Not a fan. Flannels too. Instant lumberjack. đ€·đŒââïž
Same
The freaking tennis skirt! I found a black American Apparel tennis skirt at the thrift store just a few weeks ago, and as someone who dreamed of owning one during Tumblr days, I felt so crazy for leaving it behind and not snatching it up. I actually still think about it every time I go to the thrift store. But I had the same thought process as you, I may have lusted after it at one point but I knew that it didn't fit my style today. Thank you for making me feel valid for not buying it.
any trend that ages in a way where it looks like a costume! Hard to identify when you're in love with it but.. so real. When I was in college I feel like the 80's nostalgia was at a peak again and I had so many funky jeans and patterned shirts. Which were awesome in themselves but having a closet full of that stuff made it hard to make outfits for different occasions, and I looked like I was trying to be a stranger things character 24/7. Same thing with the y2K boom in 2020. A lot of it is so cute but having all bold bright y2k items made me look like I was a cartoon character. If that's what you like that is so cool but I felt so awkward standing out that much!
I love having staples that are comfortable and fit me well, then mixing in a few funky things. I regret buying things that were uncomfy or were too tight just to fit the trends I was into online.
I think the bloomer shorts are cute peeking out from a baby doll dress (or a dress that length), but thatâs such a popular dress I think itâs ok for that to be the one way to style them.
Was going to say this as well: use them as a more fun version of biker shorts under a-line mini dresses.
the black corset is SOOOO pretty and the outfit with it was really cute!!
100% agree! I love it with that outfit
it's so funny what you said about off the shoulder tops, because i actually love that they feel weird and you have to keep fixing them or they shift as you move. it's like, a reminder that i'm wearing something special and cute instead of a regular tshirt and it makes me feel really cute all day because i can't forget that i'm wearing it! it's not something i'd wear at the grocery store though, i only wear them for a party or date night or something when i want to feel extra pretty.
i actually totally get what you mean haha this is kind of how i feel about wearing skirts
This is so validating. I also feel âoffâ in a pleated skirt. Thereâs something too tailored and preppy about it and I donât feel like âmeâ in it even though I love it on other people. And I feel the SAME way you do about off the shoulder tops.. always adjusting it and you canât raise your arms without screwing it up
As a person who fell in love w an alt style cause of like micro trends in 2020, Iâve learned that i donât really like participating in trends, but when something u like becomes trendy itâs so much more accessible and more liked. What I dislike like though is when people hop on the trend then when it becomes untrendy they hop off, and when they see someone still wear the clothes cause itâs there style, theyâre like âwhy are u still wearing that đ€šâ for example, I wear jfashion, so pleated skirts pastel kawaii things, theyâre for me, but since I live in a cold climate, things like teddy bear shirts are so useful, adding them with color full Jeans or a fun print, Mwa! I found one at the store today (itâs a store where when manufacturers have to much over stock, or itâs out of trend, they sell it to this store, the store cuts the prices, and then sells it, kinda like a Ross) that was a teddy bear jacket w teddy bears! I feel like that is a statement piece for itself. So when I wore it today I felt warm and cute and happy but I can tell that this was definitely a trend a while ago, and no one is really wearing it
I sooooooooooooooooooooo agree about platform boots and off-the-shoulder tops. Too much effort. I came home on Halloween 2021 drunk as hell and cried because I couldn't remove my platform boots. /had to wake up my roommate to help me. Not worth it lol.
Try flatform boots instead- height w/out the discomfort
Ohhh but the light blue corset with black leather pants and white tee is SUCH an outfit!! đ It looks so chill and cool and aahh I love it!
I love this video. I beat myself up about my thrift regret and itâs nice to know Iâm not the only one and that itâs ok
Sweater vests. I've bought a couple here and there and idk, maybe they're just too preppy for me, but I could never figure out how to style them. They sat in my closet for the longest time, until I finally decided to donate them.
After finding Aly Art's and Merriam Style's body type videos, I don't feel bad about not fitting into certain style of clothes. Not everything suits everyone, and every body type is different and beautiful. It has helped me to see quickly, if a clothing item will work for me or not, and avoid mistake purchases. Of course it's not only about the body shape, but personal preference also. Lot's of love! I love your videos!
Not necessarily a trend, but I tried to get into brown boots and then I just continued to always wear my black boots đ I have like 3 pairs of brown boots that I thrifted that have been sitting there for months. Every time I try to make an outfit with them I'm just like "hmmmm but I think the black boots would look better."
Same for me haha and belts and purses. I always end up just picking black. I also kept buying blue denim jackets despite always choosing my black denim jacket. Eventually got rid of the rest. Black will always win lol
@@droid2D2C3P0 it's the best color, really đ
This makes me feel better I invested some money on some good quality brown boots and I feel like I never wear them because I'd rather just wear my black docs.
I'm the opposite! Always go brown instead. More earthy and hippy I guess
Not so much on trends list for me but I have made the mistake of buying âcloset staplesâ that I never reach for. I never wear a white button down because Iâm far too clumsy to keep it white but I have bought one several times because itâs a âmust haveâ.
ahh yes!! I can definitely relate! Everyone says those items are classics so you need to own it, but "classics" should be based on your personal style!
I love the tennis skirt! Itâs a staple for me since the tumblr girls 2014 era and Iâve never let it go. I think they look really flattering on me, theyâre pretty much the only type of skirts I wear but I totally get what you mean, it doesnât work on everyone đ
I donât think thereâs a trend I regret buying because I very rarely buy clothes and donât buy trends until I genuinely love them and usually by then theyâre already out of trend đ
Your purple boots would be so cute with your outfit today!
I used to think bodysuits were the best thing ever because they would stay tucked in all day, and that rompers were my favorite because you can wear a shorter one that looks like a dress but is way more secure. I'm working up the strength to finally say goodbye since I haven't worn any in months but definitely feel bad about buying so many! So I totally relate. You are not alone!!
alexaaa! you got the platform Air Force 1s, which are known to not be comfy :( as a sneaker lover myself, i gotta give the regular AF 1s the credit they deserve -- they're the most comfy and last years!
Yeah I meant to make a note that they are the Sage's specifically, but also even though I don't have wide feet, the actual width of them is like too narrow for my feet so that's another issue I have with them (again specifically on me and my weird feet haha)
you might be onto something because mine are platforms and I agreed with her on this! so uncomfy
Summer 2021 is when I got into fashion. I still love a lot of the micro trends that came out of that summer.
I love platform heels like the ones you showed. Sure, it makes me feel like a giant, but being 5 foot 3 I love the height boost. For me, I feel about stilettos the same you feel about platforms. đ
I can relate to the tights dilemma so much! I bought everything to wear "warm" tights during winter, but then realized I can't be bothered to layer multiple tights and skirts when I can just throw on jeans lol
See now for me, wearing a skirt during winter is actually warmer for me than just jeans because of the amount of layers I wear and I live in Canada so I have to layer up anyways. Might as well wear what I love! And Iâm def a skirt girl. I donât like pants very much
@@user-wc6bl4zs4i I love skirts but I'm too lazy to actually wear them đ I now embrace it
You need to try styling the tights with a neutral palette not black but darker colors before you toss them and honestly a mustard or mauve maybe bronze satin. Clashing patterns is harder than it looks. A neutral floral top would work but it would have to be the right one.
Iâm definitely going to keep them, they were quite pricey so Iâll definitely keep experimenting with them!
Iâm in a position where I donât but many trends bc I donât go shopping very often (and when I do, itâs often at thrift stores where I honestly find the craziest stuff), so a lot of my clothes Iâve had since high school or Iâve gotten it from my mom or grandma or family bought me something. I do have some regrets with clothes Iâve gotten from people. I have a chevron shirt got from my grandma, and the kind of large fit combined with a pattern I donât wear often in a color scheme I donât wear often makes it a shirt I donât reach for very often. Still, itâs fun to try to style things when they are a challenge!
cargo pants for me!! i see other people wearing them and i get so upset at myself for not being able to style them as cute lol
The 2010s off the shoulder tops are still haunting me tbh! I'm choosing tube tops in the 'I'm forever adjusting this' category they look way cuter imo
I had the same problem with the air forces I got them secondhand but I painted them mismatched and now I wear them more. I also started keeping a list of things that I'm not allowed to buy and the reasons why so that if it does become trendy I remember why I don't buy them
I remember when you got the black corset and I still think it's just so pretty!
Even though we have different styles, I truly enjoy your videos. So engaging and fun! And I found myself nodding in agreement with things that I know are not right for me but look great on others. Leather pants, corsets, impractical shoes., fabrics that are not comfortable, etc. As a thrifter, it sometimes seems like a good idea at the time (due to price or ease of trying a trend out) but then you never reach for it. It's made me be much more mindful and realistic when shopping but still do it sometimes.
Congrats on the phone case! Missed opportunity to say pocketful of sunshine! đ
Ahhhhh why didnât I even THINK OF THAT đ âïž
The only off the shoulder top I wear/have is an old one thatâs completely made out of that smocked material so it just moves with me when I raise my arms and itâs just super nice
Ah yes that one sounds perfect! Itâs the elastic ones where yes it keeps it from falling, but then if you move your arms up it gets all messed up!
One trend I regret buying is the strawberry cardigan ,,, like there was a Time when everyone had a strawberry cardigan/sweater, and I bought one because it looked so cute on everyone else! I don't know if it's the fit of the particular cardigan or the color (it's pink) but all it does is make me feel self conscious, frumpy, and like no one will take me seriously if I wear it.
I never cared about trends. I just wear whatever the hell I want. đ€·đŒââïž
All i could think was "I've got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine!" đ
Not sure if someone already made that joke hahaa
Off the shoulder is such a scam!!! Itâs so cute but god is it impractical. Iâm someone who need a bra with good support, and wearing a bra with an off the shoulder top or dress doesnât always look good.. And as you mentioned, it just never stays in place!! So annoying.
Ah and donât get me started on how terrible strapless bras are as well!!!!! Just in general I say no off the shoulder haha
honestly, this video made me feel so amazing. looking at you looking SO GOOD in outfits you said didnât feel right (especially the leather pants and pleated skirt), really made me stop and think. I love fashion, i love clothes, but sometimes i feel really self-conscious and overdressed, but this video totally got me out of that headspace!! thank you sm
You MUST wear those patterned tights. They looked so cute with that black fit!
I love videos like these! It's just as important to know what doesn't work for you as to figure out what does. I especially agree about the off the shoulder tops. It's not fun wearing clothes that you have to babysit constantly!
I never understood off the shoulder tops and how people would manage to keep them up/down. I thought it was just me, because I have a âswimmerâs bodyâ with big shoulders
I always use body tape to hold my off the shoulder tops in place so I never have to worry about them riding up (cheeky hack)
I can relate to most of these, tho black leather pants - OH how I love them! they suit my personality, spice up the outfit and can elongate legs very nicely if they are high-waisted and worn with black boots
Definitely have fallen for trends that don't look good on me, and don't fit with my personal style. I have to actively remind myself that I don't wear short crop tops. Even though I find them beautiful.
I've been DYING to thrift vintage air force 1s, but I can't find any in physical thrift stores. I don't want to get them on Depop because they are hella expensive and it's risky because they may not fit. I like most of those trends, ecxept for the impossible platforms and the tennis skirts. They tend to be impractical for me. Also, I would love to wear corset tops, but it's not easy to find one that fits as someone with a bigger chest. I really want to thrift bloomers, they would be so practical in my wardrobe. I also have genuine leather pants that I wear all the time in the fall and winter. I thrifted them last year and I honestly don't know where have they been all my life.
AHHHH I LITERALLY WANTED A PELA CASE SO BAD, BUT THEY WERE OUT OF MY BUDGET AND NOW WITH UR CODE I WAS JUST ABLE TO GET THE GREEN CASE OF MY DREAMS!!!!
Aw! Iâm so happy! âșïžâșïžâșïžđđ
I have two off the shoulder tops. I refuse to wear them as such. I just wear them as regular tops. Thankfully they still look nice. My black pleated skirt is also collecting dust. So I relate.
If youâre gonna buy aritzia vegan leather pants, go for the ascendant or Lucy pant. Theyâre embossed with a texture that mimics a grainy leather! IMO that buttery smooth leather of the malina or command pant and other styles they have donât look good. They just have that shiny quality that looks cheap to me. Theyâre all still expensive regardless, but just wanted to share my experience because I love mine!
I feel torn about American Apparel tennis skirts. I've been considering getting a second-hand one but I wonder how much I'd even wear it. A part of me thinks that it's only on my wishlist because it's 'in trend' compared to other skirt types that I just find more comfortable.
It's interesting that you said it was too preppy compared to your general style. Something that puts me off is how this style of skirt reminds me of what I had to wear for my school uniform, which was neither a happy time in my life nor something that was very comfortable.
Eh. Guess I've answered my own question. Maybe I should just stop caring about what others think and stick to skater skirts.
P.S. I love platform boots and heels, but I swear it's so hard to find ones I like???
i love the corsets on you! pretty much every trend you mensioned ilike and i ownđ love yaâ€ïž
Please do a pt2!! Loved this video
lately thereâs a very specific style iâve been wanting to build my closet towards but bc the components arenât really only trend anymore iâve been deeply struggling to fine affordable pieces đ iâve been thrifting going to stores and boutiques, but the only things iâm finding are super expensive. trends are most definitely both good and bad
I feel the same way about the pleated skirt!! I wanted to be Jules from Euphoria but it just makes me look like a middle school student
Yay, a new video!đ„° Love your channel, Alexa!đ
â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
With that phone case you can have, dare I say⊠a pocketful of sunshine

Sounds like we need a closet clean out videoâŠđ
There are editorial (only look cool in photos) trends and then thereâs wearable actually-live-your-life pieces. Youâre a fashion blogger, though - youâre out here testing on everyoneâs behalf! Thanks for reporting your results today (:
Try coated-cotton versions of the black leather trousers you like. Probably lots of those on Poshmark from Zara and the like. Similar look plus lightness and breathibility (just wash them inside out).
worked in one of Inditex(Zara, basically) stores. We`d had plenty of coated-cotton pants and those were the shit! Breatheable, confortable, affordable and a better fit in most cases. Plus, most of those garments are produced within the eco-friendly lines(at lest that`s what the tag says and what corporates told us).
Sell the AF1s someone will love to buy them secondhand!
not so much fashion trends, but home trends! I thought i was all about that modern minimalism a few years ago, but turns out my home decor style (as well as my fashion style) is just old man who lives alone in a cabin somewhere in the woods! đ
In my opinion, some of the things aren't working for you due to the colors and then again some aren't working because they don't match your body type and body language
i found out long time ago the fact - i like a lot of things at others, but not on me. I trifted nice things, sometimes i looked ok but i didnt feel well
Bro. I feel you on the off the shoulder, it always catches my eye, but I have to remind myself the no bra/strapless bra + constant adjustment would mean I would never wear it
omg yeah bloomers are so much harder to style than I realized but I still am so obsessed with them that Iâve found I donât really mind
Iâm still trying to work with mine as well! I think I still can make cute outfits with them, but I just canât wear them like I had originally thought.
@@alexasunshine83 I've worn bloomers as outerwear for years, but mostly the non-white ones that are a bit longer- and often with opaque tights underneath. They are a staple in lolita fashion to protect your modesty when wearing big skirts with petticoats and easily available from small handmade shops on etsy- and in cotton.
I'd just wear them around the house and call it a day.
My favorite days of the week are when Alexa posts â€
đđđđ
same! it's Sunday routine for me to sit down with my pets and a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and watch Alexa
Omg if you post a lot of these on PM/Depop they'll sell really well!
100% on the air force 1's! I feel the exact same way and felt crazy that I didn't like them and they aren't my first choice for a white sneaker
I thrift ed a super cute pair of 90's faux (real) slide heels that fit my wide feet. They were sorta a trend in that 90's witchy vampy stuff has been in.
But I have bad shins and bum knee so I don't know how much use I will get out of them.
The only thing I can think of is being good for when I have to go to church with my parents for a few hours. They won't hurt me for what the activity is and I might as well look cute while trying to ignore the things I don't agree with.
But I really should not buy heels. But they are so cute. It's a struggle.
I don't buy trends but I think I will never buy faux leather coats again. I am looking for real leather ones because the always rip off. It is not worth it specially if they are already used.
Yeah definitely secondhand true leather is what I prefer as well!
I feel like buying second hand leathers and furs is so much better because youâre giving new life to a garment that was made of another life, it should be used and reused until it canât be anymore
this video is such a good idea! i want to make one now!
Alexa, I need your help styling a skirt! Please make another one of those videos lol đ»
soon soon !!
Iâm wondering if you dye the bloomer shorts if it would enhance - the ones you put on the screen seem to have more of a pastel tone
I bought a pleated skirt because of you and really like it) Its so fun, that u regret to buy it) But of course its all about personal preferences
Iâm so happy you love it!! Iâll definitely still style it since I own it, but itâs definitely something that is like a closet staple piece for me.
I am happy that I was able to try out in the thrift store changing room a cycling sweater. I was tempted to buy it for so long. I love the idea. I love the look... on someone else. I look horrible in it.
Some of the things I've seen on Poshmark go WAY beyond a little yellowing of a white sneaker!! I've seen almost black white sneakers!! đ
I would never sell something that has stains/discolouring. Especially at an expensive price (like most people do). But each to their own.
I love you. I appreciate it. Keep up great work. Lots of love.
The trend I regret buying: faux leather joggers. Every time I put them on I feel silly. But I see so many women on Insta looking amazing in them! Ugh, unfair!
Girl I like them so so much!! I hate the fact that they donât look good on me but i absolutely love them
yay new Alexa video!!
â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
This was funâŠand relatable! đ
Love the pela case! Just ordered one for me đ
Ahhh! Thank you so much đđâ€ïžâ€ïž
Congratulations on your phone case! It's very cute!đ
I have no less than 3 titanium screws in my fibula bone (think outside part of your shin) to remind us all that there is such a thing as "too high" when it comes to platform shoes... đđ
Im also over overly trendy pieces these days itâs all about functionality and comfort.
I feel ya on most of these, but especially the Nike AF-1's.
WOA alexa this is the first video that i disagreed with a lot of the choices! đł as a goth i loved the corset, platforms, and leather pants trends! you weren't lying about platforms and their walk-ability though
It's all good! I still LOVE those styles, but just never ended up wearing them how I thought I would!
Hi Alexa i just so absolutely love your beautiful gorgeous outfits Happy Thanksgiving i love you.
I adore my black pleated skirt, but it goes with my style. I wish I had a red one. Maybe some day. đ§ââïž
Hey Alexa the only clothes that I like is leather pants is awesome and happy thanksgiving to your family
Look into getting your shoes professionally cleaned! Sometimes they can even change aspects of the shoes you don't like in terms of colour
I'm obsessed with the look of off the shoulder shirts, but they really aren't practical unless they're like... A fancy dress
You got rid of your corsets? O.O that's so surprising to me, you looked so happy in them! It's interesting how taste changes!
For me they've definitely become a wardrobe staple, I'm not comfortable without a bra anyway so when it's very hot in the summer being able to wear just one layer full of holes instead of a bra and a shirt is lovely!
Also I love the tights, please don't get rid of them! Try to style them with items in colours that are already in the tights (even patterned items if you feel like it, I think they'd look great with argyle), I know it's counterintuitive but I find that it works way better than black because it makes the outfit look cohesive instead than putting all the attention on the crazy tights! I remember you trying a white or pastel outfit with them in the past, but it's not what I mean - I mean basic silhouettes and the literal colours that are already there, so that you don't add even more fanciness to the mix!
My most recent trend that I've tried and failed at must be the corset in the sense of the historically inspired boned item that goes over something else. The issue is that I don't like to layer things on dresses, and it didn't work with the waistline on my trousers, it always exposed a piece of the shirt poofing out. It worked with my pleated skirts, which are slightly more high-waisted, but then I felt like an oktoberfest caricature, you know, the overly sexualised German girl with braids that you see in movies. So I parted ways with the corset.
Agreed. I've been trying to be more careful about what I buy myself đ„Žđ„Ž that and I have a big red painful incision on my chest so cute trendy off the shoulder tops or anything lowcut just isn't the vibes rn đ€Łđ€Ł I really just live in graphic tees and sweaters
D-lites are so good and comfy!
I would love to see you style these pieces that you still have for a video to see if your mind could be changed!
I never got into any of the trends you mentioned. I'm not really a trend person. However, denim trends (esp. vintage Levi's) and overalls are ones I have tried to get into but just never found pieces that fit or flattered so I never did buy any (I don't wear jeans) but I certainly looked high & low for them.... đ€·
I did thrift 2 oversized tweed blazers and I just can't make them work. I love blazers and wear them a lot, but the oversized just aren't for me!!
Just an idea I thought of when you were mentioning Pinterest, you could have a fashion board for every year, & it's something you can start with this new year đ
I think I may start doing that versus the past maybe 2 years I've been doing dedicated monthly pinterest boards đ
@@alexasunshine83 oh wow! You could also make a board for each year & make sections for each month if you still wanted to do that, or if your style didn't evolve fast enough each month, you could do seasons instead
The Dr Marten's Jaden shoes... ai begged my mom for them as a birthday + xmas gift last year and I've barely worn them three times. They are just so tight and hard, and like, its construction and my foot dont match up. Sad because i really like how the look, even on me!
doc martens are so hard I don't know how anyone copes
@@riverAmazonNZ I was told that wearing them for a full day would do the trick, but I could barely do half a day IF anything. I've thought for doing the paper and steam trick or even lending then to friend who wears lots of them so she can wear them and get then loose, but I think ultimately I'd rathed just sell them and buy shoes I like better with the money
Could you maybe do a video on your personal capsule wardrobe? đ
this is a weird one because it's such a staple basic for some people but i those v neck button up cardigans. i just can't pull it off. it feels so not-me but I loooove how cute they are on other ppl!
Ah yes! Itâs so tough because you buy it since itâs super cute on others but yeah then it just doesnât hit the same đ
With cardigans it's either round neck or v neck, one or the other not both.
I only wear round neck, with the occasional shawl collar which is the closest I go to v neck. I love cardigans so much more since I settled that dilemma.
I donât regret any trend . I wear all my clothes
