      @@fumarc4501 I emphatically disagree. Catra is just as responsible for her actions as the rest of the Horde. The best literary character that I can parallel is Peter Pettigrew, aka Wormtail from the Harry Potter series. The fact remains that while both suffered unrelenting abuse at the hands of their superiors, they both caused irreparable harm; not only to innocent bystanders, but to the friends and family they both supposedly cared the most for. Both had full agency, both never once assumed responsibility for their actions, and when each one of them was given the opportunity to apologize and make amends, they both took the easy way out.

      Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed, nearly all of the name characters in the Horde were three dimensional characters, not just 2D cardboard cutout villains for our hero’s to face. In fact, with the exception of one or two, which we barely saw any of through the show, I wouldn’t call any of the named Horde characters “Villains”, just antagonists, this includes Catra, Shadow Weaver, and yes, even Hordak.
      The only true villain in the entire show, is Horde Prime himself.
      To anyone reading, go back and watch the whole show again, and pay close attention to characters like Shadow Weaver, Hordak, Catra and Horde Prime. Yes the first three did bad things, but tell me, how do they measure up to someone like Horde Prime?

    • @blade7y156
      @blade7y156 Před rokem +4

      @@commandercritic9036 Horde Prime is actually the final and most incredible vilain of She-Ra, but Shadoweaver is just behind him.
      Horde Prime is the origin of all the scenaristic problems, even the exploit of Etheria by The First One was probably to defeat him.
      Hordak is litterally a creation of Prime, so he is no match, and his loneliness and crave for recognition led to his destructive path, and he ended up finding connection and renouncing his meaningless search.
      Catra is the fucked up product of Shadoweaver abuse, even given a deep redemption.
      But Shadoweaver... is the cause for the entire emotionnal conflict of the show.
      Think about it : she is the one who messed Catra and Adora, and then Glimmer. She is the one that abused every three main characters of the show, causing the most extrem problems before Prime. She is the one behind the mindset of Catra that led to the opening of the portal, she is the one behind the hero complex of Adora, she is the one that pushed Glimmer to activate the Heart of Etheria.
      She is the constant shadow of the show, even imprisonned she is nothing less of a threat, because she plays on a mind level.
      Even when Prime is here, reducing Hordak to a faceless clone, pushing Catra to redemption, she is still played like a threat to both Adora and Catra, and almost ruined their reformed relationship.
      Even at her very end, she managed to achieve a appearant "redemption", but actually causing more emotionnal trauma on Adora and Catra.
      She is the last antagonist on the way to the Heart of Etheria, the last thing that prevented Catra and Adora to be together, therefore disissing Prime's plans of taking control of Etheria.
      For her constant presence through the whole show, she is on same level with Prime.
      Prime should have had one more season to have a clear win (and that would have been awesome on every level, damn you Netflix).

    • @commandercritic9036
      @commandercritic9036 Před rokem

      @@blade7y156 I don’t disagree with what you said about Shadow Weaver, because it’s all true, but you also have to remember her past. She was set on the path she walked because of her desire to defend Etheria from the Horde, now to be fair, her methods were not the best, and the Council of Mystacor were right we denying her, but they should have at least encouraged her to find another way. By flat out refusing to even ATTEMPT to fight back against the Horde, drove Shadow Weaver (or as she was known then, Light Spinner) to desperation, and a desperate magic user is a DANGEROUS magic user.
      This of course leads to her and Micah attempting the spell of Obtainment on their own, and we all know how that turned out. From here I’d say it’s fair to assume the Spell of Obtainment corrupted her, mind, body and soul, magnified all of the dark traits within her to create the Shadow Weaver we all knew… but the person who wanted to stop the Horde was still there, deep down, forgotten.
      Then Catra defeats her, and Shadow Weaver ends up locked up, and has time to think, she remembers who she was, the reason she pursued this path. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that after remembering her old life, she goes to Adora, to give her information that will help her defeat Hordak, that said, the darkness that had corrupted Shadow Weaver wouldn’t let go that easy, or rather, old habits die hard, and Shadow Weaver couldn’t help but use her new situation for her own gain (kinda two birds with one stone deal).
      This trend continues right until the finale, where Adora finally gives Shadow Weaver a reality check and puts the old woman in her place (which is why Catra finds her drinking when she returns) after this, her only concern is helping Adora reach the heart…
      And here is where the old Shadow Weaver dies, and Light Spinner is resurrected.
      There’s a moment, when Adora runs back for Catra, where Shadow Weaver turns towards the Heart, even through her mask, you can TELL that Shadow Weaver is tempted by the power there. Despite that though, the choice she makes, is to rescue Catra, to give her two adopted daughters the life they deserve, and remove herself from the equation.
      After all, what was Shadow Weaver’s final line… “Your Welcome.”

    • @blade7y156
      @blade7y156 Před rokem +1

      @@commandercritic9036 And you perfectly explain why I think Shadiweaver is an incredible antagonist.
      Because even when she was manipulating Micah into gaining more power, she was persuaded (or at least persuaded the spectator) that she was doing that in order to save Etheria from the Horde, then turns on the side of the Horde the very moment it can gave her more power.
      We even give her the benefice of "darkness corruption", but it is clear she is acting almost the same with Micah than with Catra or Adora, projecting her own insecurities, manipulating them to gain power.
      Her last act was kind of a redemption, and I'm sure she thought it was, but really it was a final act of abuse : by saving Adora and Catra in her dyong breath, she forced them to forgive her all the abuse she did, all the bad things she cause to her.
      Even the spectator falls for it.

    Catra is the picture of a complex broken person that really needs help but has been so abused and brutalized that she only knows how to express herself in that same language of pain. She needs help but her way of showing is to hurt others. Double Trouble who is good at figuring out people seems to have had a time figuring her out but finally did and wanted to share (because DT loves to show how smart DT is) and told her. Not out of kindness but because it gave DT smug satisfaction to tell Catra that she was the problem. No mater who she talks to or where she goes she is still the problem and unless she finds someone that can outsmart her and know what DT knows, she will be a tragic victim or herself forever. If she is good or evil doesn’t mater, she has a life sentence.

      Double Trouble may have been a backstabbing asshole but they were also the one who gave Catra the wakeup call she needed. Without Double Trouble, Catra would have just continued to destroy herself and ruin her relationships with everyone she cared about. I guess in that sense, Double Trouble kind of did act as her best friend because none of the others were willing to tell Catra what a colossal bitch she was. The worst Scorpia ever said about her was "you're a bad friend" and although that clearly pierced Catra's psychological barriers, it didn't outright rip them to pieces like Double Trouble did.

    i hope she realises that she’s.. the issue right now. that she’s the reason why scorpio isn’t there, why ronnie doesn’t treat her like a friend anymore. not make excuses, not making excuses or just being totally ignorant to her problems. she needs to break the cycle of abuse, she needs to stop becoming somewhat like shadow weaver, the abuser. she needs to look the problem in the face, and solve it. and hopefully, just hopefully, she’ll finally find some peace. what double trouble said was right, and catra needed to hear them. so badly. i hope season five would be the part of catra’s arc when she starts to change. for the good.

Of course she would become “evil”. Everything we saw, it was Catra’s suffering.... I mean, just imagine yourself in her situation, of course you would be mad and crazy, after everything that happened to her it’s just insane to become a better person just because.... The Horde is not good (duh we all know that) , she was really lucky to meet Adora/the love of her life :) and she lost her. Season 4 was truly the most psychological one. After this traumatic Finale of Season 3 it left a big scar on most characters, especially on Glimmer and Catra. Glimmer wasn't able to put herself together after her's mother death and Catra didn't know what else she wanted from life. In the end, she became alone, without anyone. She just wanted Glimmer to end her suffering. And this is why I love this show. Glimmer could have avenged her mother easily by killing Catra in Season 4 Finale, but she didn't. For the first time she didn't perceive Catra as enemy, but as someone who was just lost and alone. She knew that feeling, because she felt EXACTLY the same in Season 4. For a brief moment, she understood and felt sorry for Catra. This show is brilliant.

    Catra is the sole reason I've continued to watch this show. The protagonist just isn't working for me and their story just isn't as good as it could be. But Catra? We've seen her struggle and fight to get a chance at proving herself, after years of being abused, underappreciated, and even bullied. She was so thoroughly conditioned to think and act a certain way that she literally couldn't comprehend why the only friend she ever had, her sister, up and left her. It sure as heck didn't help when Adora never even really gave the people she left behind a second thought. It's tough because she did some seriously horrible things but ultimately they had to focus on the larger enemy, and she was on the side of good at the end. Same with Hordak. They weren't evil at their core, they were seeking power to feel worthy after a life of rejection. I think seeing Horde Prime put everything in perspective for the rest of the characters as they saw what true evil looked like compared to hurt people who did bad things.

    Catra's breakdown in Season 4 was intense. She started going insane in Season 3 and her madness got worse in Season 4 until Double Trouble smacked some sense into her in the final episode. If not for their intervention, Catra would have ended up a screaming wreck just like Azula was at the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Come to think of it, Catra's arc in the first 4 seasons might be the greatest portrayal of a descent into insanity in a children's show, and that's a very impressive feat when you have Azula's character arc to compare it to. She-Ra even had the guts to imply that Catra was suicidal. Avatar wasn't brave enough to go that far.
    I'm not sure if Catra deserved the redemption arc she got in Season 5. She was a villain in the first 2 seasons but like Adora said "I know you're not a bad person". Then in Season's 3 and 4, Catra became a terrible person who would throw her friends under the bus in order to win. And when she finally started winning, it brought her no satisfaction so she threw away all the people who cared about her for nothing. Scorpia finally stood up to Catra when she said "You're a bad friend" but although that line cut Catra to the core, it was an understatement. Only Double Trouble was willing to rip her defences to shreds, point out that she was a shitty person and say that she needed to clean up her act. When you have someone like Double Trouble telling you that you're a terrible person while they're shamelessly betraying you, you know you've fucked up.

      Well i Mean that's the only way double trouble give therapy to her /make her realize that what she done..so i am not really problem with that atleast double trouble help catra on the right time even though double trouble is still kind evil..

    She is the product of manipulation, abuse-both physically and mentally-and the simple desire to be on top. However, she is way too reliant on others to do it-if they end up failing her, she turns on them and starts loosing herself to the anger and subconscious regret. This drives her mad, leads to her doing stupid stuff, and DT having to tell her straight about her problems.
    The She Ra team really thought this through
    I 👏 love 👏 Catra’s 👏 character 👏

    Season 5 will be kind of the hay maker Will Catra start to grow redemption for herself near end of Season 5? or is she doomed to repeat the same problems within Horde Prime's ranks? If the creator says that it's possible Catra could have her hit rock bottom in the S4 Finale then Maybe S5 will be her slow redemption near the end?
    Edit: Saving Glimmer and by extension Etheria from being destroyed by Hordak Prime is a good start.
