- Headphones recommended Join me on a relaxing, outdoor, ASMR inducing, uphill (~950 ft gain) & out-of-breath (~3 mile) hike that starts off on a portion of the Appalachian Trail (aka "AT") located at Old Forge Road in Michaux State Forest, Pennsylvania, then onto the Hermitage trail to Chimney Rocks Vista trail until we reach our destination known as Chimney Rocks / Buzzard Peak.
Note: in-ear microphones were used to record the audio as if you were there, but at times one of the mics becomes slightly loose in the ear, causing the audio on one side to sound a little stronger/different than the other.

Rift you keep doing what you want to do, I will watch. Do what makes you happy.
Music guy
Yeah I prefer indoor content but there’s something inspiring with Rift just doing whatever he pleases, it’s his channel after all
Good for him but it’s unfortunate bc he’s the only asmr creator I watch and now it’s rare to get a video to gts
Videos like these are so neat. Getting vicarious glimpses of new environments in a way that don't cost you a plane ticket.
I’ll bill you later ;)
So happy uncle is living it up
Hey my friend, this place looks absolutely breathtaking! Lol, I totally agree….younger times….better shape I would have absolutely hiked the Appalachian trail from start to finish! Up near me, we have some amazing trails and state parks that I hike from time to time (not as much as I’d like but still). You ever hear of bald eagle state forest?
lloyd in the wild
Yeahp it’s on my bucket list ;)
@@EphemeralRift I think you would really enjoy it! It has some really easy to hike but very beautiful trails, some really nice pavilions with picnic tables, a lake complete with a sandy beach….the works. There’s a few other spot up here I think you would love as well, Penns cave, Woodward cave, a secluded spot with an old train tunnel from the 1800s ( made a video there a while back). The ASMR quality of the tunnel alone is worth checking out.
You are an old man, Mr McNelis, that is what you are these days. Do whatever you decide to do, I am going to enjoy these videos.
Feels like home where I've never been, strange kind of nostalgia.
not 80 years old "old man" but yes def not young anymore. Well, the physical energy/drive that is.
@@EphemeralRift
We only as old as we see ourselves, and your long creative work on CZcams channel shows, that you have never been old in your entire life imho, ever young "out-of-the-box" thinking
@@mr.schadenfreude8552get yo wise ass outa here u know to much. U scare me
Grandpa rift, i have been watching your videos from a long time. And got so much of peace, happiness and calmness from your videos. And have been a big fan of yours. Thank you very much for all of this. A lot of love from India🇮🇳❤️
lol "grandpa" it's "Uncle"! I'm only 53, not 80! Nor do I have grandkids. You can call me that in 20 years!
I needa start hiking again. Truly a wonderful experience matched with some healthy activity. Keep up the good work man! Your a great inspiration to get out doors more, and I also just love seeing you out in nature enjoying it and getting a nice hike. Definitely something I'm gonna have to do again.
Thank you always for almost 8 years.. I have been consoled a lot from you.
Well thx for hanging around all that time ;)
This reminds me of your first videos when you got started. Nice to see you again Paul
My wife and I love Pennsylvania. We visited Ohiopyle State Park in the fall of 2019 from Vancouver, BC and we fell in love with the entire state. Can’t wait to return with our daughters one day. Would love to visit the Frank Frazetta museum just north of Philadelphia next time.
(BTW: it does get easier. I am the same age and I’ve learned that continually putting myself out there keeps me limber and my lungs open and receptive. The single most important thing is to dress for the current conditions and allow for layers.)
Man, I love spending time on that trail. Thanks for this.
Looks like a lovely and healthy hike. Good prep advice too.
I really love hiking. I'm from the mountains of Europe and I love my landscapes, but it's so cool to see some new places - it's as if I'm walking with you. Very cool format uncle Rift, I've been watching you for more than 10 years now and you've never stopped surprising me. Plus, with all the equipment you must have taken with you, this has to be quite the workout!
I've watched your videos for years now. Some of my favorite older videos were in the same vein as these. As a kid I was very outdoorsy, but grew out of touch with that part of me until I got into my early adult years now. It's really nice to see these kinds of videos from you as I reconnect with nature both on my own and as a biologist now. I'm just as soothed by the man in the plague doctor mask as I am by the man hiking in the hills. Do what makes you happy, Uncle E. I'll always support your creative journey.
It’s cool to see you around my neck of the woods, I hike on that part of the AT fairly often. Michaux State Forest has a ton of excellent trails
ive been hear for 12 years and it still gets better
You are awesome man, hiking is also so healing for the soul, so to speak. Keep enjoying life, wish you the best ❤
Likewise! ;)
thank you for doing what you do man, great video !!
Love you, E! I will always love your videos! You are the BEST!
yes, if i was the only person in the room i would be the best ;) (appreciate the sentiment though!)
Man i love the nature stuff!
Hey from the UK! I always love seeing how beautiful america can be, and i love your vids man. Keep it up!
That's what I've talking about! Thanks!
That’s it, I’m going on a hike after this video.
Rumor has it Paul (or atleast part of Paul) is still at the summit sitting on that rock. I’m inspired by how quickly you went from indoors to outdoors doing an incline hike. Strong will and determination will take you wherever you heart/mind desires Zipper knee pants/shorts, a can or two of Boost oxygen/RevO2 will do the body good. Thanks Paul!
The Appalachia’s are beautiful!! I know first hand from living there. Glad you enjoyed hiking here!
More hiking videos please! They are very relaxing and nice to watch because i also love to hike.
you got me craving the great outdoors rn
Beautiful trails and scenery. Wish I had a place like this to hike near me
Pennsylvania has to be beautiful. I live on the eastern side of Ohio and we have some beautiful foothills and forests. I can imagine PA would be stunning
Man, you're making me miss the woods I used to live by now that I'm stuck here straight in the heart of Chicago, might go on a drive up to some state park next weekend
New PFP again, i think i like this one the most
So inspired to go on a big hike now
I know your outdoor videos aren’t as watched as your others. But I want you to know Uncle E that you should make and post what makes you happy no matter if people watch or not.
Oh I know! That’s what I’ve been doing since I started the channel ;)
Yourr getting closer and closer to my town, nice! I used to hike a lot younger but now im just always caugbt up in work or school and havent really enjoyed myself like i should.
Might take a walk at our local trail, just for some air.
I live 30 minutes away from there! Beautiful forest!
ahh, you're so lucky!
So pretty🌲
sleep content just arrived. nice
really awesome view
Next hike/video has even better views ;)
another epic rift hiking adventure😁
another incoming next week if all goes planned!
Make sure you hike at Delaware water gap since you’re from Philly. Should be closer to you and a gorgeous view.
The best is Pure Nature and ANIMALS BIRDS 😊😊😮😮😮
these thumbnails and time stamps i got intimidated. incredible outcome impressedsice i jst hikeyed a small portion of trail, and jumped a trench, found a wild trail to follow.
Nice, just read a book about the Appalachian Trail!
Nice
Happy belated birthday P. 🎉
It would be cool to hear about urban legends from his area over a campfire as asmr
I love a walk in the forest and it’s amazing how quiet it is there. This is a great backdrop for studying (the driving ones are good for beddy-byes) 😴 💤 . Now, settle the debate: man, bear or Uncle E?…
lol
Frl these videos helps a lot with my hylophobia (irrational fear of forests)
You may consider reading "Born to run" by Christopher McDougall. The book is (among others) about a native Tarahumara tribe living in the mountains. The tribe is primitive but very athletic. Representatives of the tribe even won one of American ultramarathons (Leadville Trail). The tribesmen wore simple clothes and ran in sandals. The book tells a story, it isn't boring at all and is lovely in general.
It also presents a story about a person that changed footwear, started to live more running lifestyle, and gained great amounts of fitness - also by healing the damage caused by traditional shoes. Maybe that will inspire you, and in the future you will fly up those inclines ;)
Thanks for the rec, I'm not much into reading atm but I'll add it to my list.
stay safe on your adventures uncle e!
Likewise!
Definitely worth the hike for those views ❤
Next hike has even better views ;)
Not sure if this is your usual Color grade, but I love the way you grade these outdoor walks.
It's kinda the same warm look i use for most of my videos. I just drop the shadows a bit into the blues (not as much for my black backgrounds), the mid-tones into the yellow/reds, and the highlights a bit into the yellows.
Ohh, the US is so beautiful, I want to visit!
It's so warm where I live right now the plants all die and the people run and hide... Wish I was somewhere that looks like this in the summer!
It's all yellow, grey and brown for me, and not the cool bright colorful flowers kinda yellow, no, I mean the dead weeds kinda yellow.
Pretending we're walking through the rifts and taking different paths with this one
Watching The night Sky together would be a nice Video for night time 🙈
1:23:47
That view is splendtastic
wait until you see this week's hike video ;)
Hell yeah
Wow, Southern Pennsylvania forests look just the same as the forests where I live (central Europe).
i love your ER phone case but do you think you could put it on a shirt, or hoodie? I’d certainly get it, the design is great!
Make sure you carry protection though! You never know what can happen.
Thanks Uncle Joe
He supports lgbtq I don’t think he’s into protection lol
@xUnkn0wentitYx What happened to mama..
What bag do you use ?
Fellow Pennsylvanian!!
Finally a normal pfp from uncle e 😂😅
Be safe!
What kind of gear you carrying with you Paul? You going ultralight? I like that bag, whatever make it is.
Yeah just what I said in the beginning: first aid kit, simple lunch, just the bear necessities ;)
Got a question for you Rift, are there any good waterfalls in your area? As in an hour or two away, don't have to be big, but would technically be considered water falls. Should be some good sounds. Thanks man, love these outdoor videos you do.
i did a waterfall video few years ago: czcams.com/video/OpIR4iDISjw/video.html
but yeah, there are some places... we'll see what happens ;)
@@EphemeralRift I remember that one, just wondered if there were any others. Thanks man, enjoying the nature side of Rift.
wow, u be traveling a lot. hope ur having fun paul?
Yeah, I kinda have to in order to see all these places. It's weird because I was sick of driving/travelling, especially in 2022/2023. So this is a complete 180 for me.
Im gonna morb!
16:14 Bless you
New pfp goes hard as fuck for literally no reason
Being born and raised in the western US I am so used to being able to take short drives and quick walks and be on top of a mountain with 360° views of the horizon. I forget that a lot of people don’t get to experience these types of views. It was really cool to be along for your first time and am so glad you got to do it. Thank you for sharing.
happy birthday 2 days from now
nah just a few vids ago i said something about the Appalachian trail. btw Paul's legs got to be ripped 💪🏾^_^
lol they're far from ripped. i just was outside a LOT as a kid
Would you ever want to do overnight backpack camping?
Camping and campfire yes! Not sure about backpacking to a site , but you never know!
I aspire to have this lifestyle when I'm middle aged
he got 400+ likes on this video but last video he got 2,000+ that's some crazy work
???
My dad used to live in Pennsylvania is it true that once you leave Pennsylvania you no longer a Pennsylvanian?
Kind of like they disown you?
You can take the person out of Pennsylvania, but can you take the Pennsylvania out of the person? ;)
Paul have you ever considered through hiking?
I've thought about it. Never know what might happen one of these years... though I highly doubt it.
time to go outside.
I wanna read the profile picture but my eyes arent good enough😂
Why did the turkey cross the road ??
because it freaked out when it heard my car approaching???
:D
8^D
Can we get a delco asmr?
soon!
@@EphemeralRift Imperial pizza! or maybe a wawa history lesson as it originated from wawa delaware county. Youre the man ER!
How much of PA do you consider to be Appalachia, geographically and culturally? Debate going on about this over on Reddit and I'm curious about your take
you're asking the wrong guy, i don't really care lol
@@EphemeralRift Fair enough. Looking forward to you finding cryptids in the forest!
Hey paul can you do John wick roleplay you are very look alike to Keanu Reeves
