      Yea well he didn’t sign Brunson for 55 mil right when he was obviously entering his prime and had the chance to do so. Then didn’t even give him an offer in the offseason. Could you imagine the 2 best point guards in the game and one of them playing on a 55 million dollar contract? We could have built a real superteam. Correct, DJJ was great but I also think that Naji is a upgrade.
    They are very similar but the little upgrades of Nadji is his body strength, post game, passing skills and drive with the ball.
    DJJ maybe has more bounce and offence court vision but Naji`s total package is better.
    So at the moment it looks like of one next masterpiece Nico catched.

    • @tucsonbandit
      @tucsonbandit Před měsícem +2

      Naji might not be able to match up w/ the quicker smaller guards the way DJJ could, he might be better at guarding certain types of forwards though and perhaps his offensive game is a little bit better, although he is not the lob threat DJJ was.

      @@aaronlampkin284 grimes looks good. I do hope Kidd will play Hardy more, I wanted it all last season as well. I was hoping he would take Hardaway's minutes, but Kidd never really gave him much of a chance.
      He looks very good to me-perhaps he could learn to be a little less aggressive with his shot selection sometimes. That might be easier to do if he starts getting consistent minutes since he won't have to worry he might not play for another week whenever he is put in a game.

    • @Smido83
      @Smido83 Před měsícem

      @@tucsonbandit I dont see any problems with Hardy on offense. His job of the bech was to get buckets, and he has already shown that he is more connected and is able to find the open man around the basket. The problem with Hardy is defense. He hasnt shown much improvement on that end and thats why we more often then not loose the minutes with him out there.

    • @tucsonbandit
      @tucsonbandit Před měsícem

      @@Smido83 yes he is obviously a good offensive player, his aggressiveness is fine IMO when he is leading the 2nd unit, but when he is put out there with doncic and/or Kyrie I think he should not take early shot clock contested 3's or show the same level of aggressiveness in general.
      He can take bad shots sometimes too; I just think sometimes he could let the game come to him a little bit more. His shooting % is not that great, partly because despite his athletic ability he has a low finishing % in the paint. I think he will become a better finisher as he gets more mature and stronger.
      On defense, yeah he is sometimes out of position or does not play the screens correctly, but his overall athletic talent suggests he will be a good defender at some point. He needs more playing time, he should not be getting entire weeks where he is not playing. That is not good for his development or the teams development.

    Here's the thing. It will all come down to rotations. So Kidd will experience with different lineups again. Not to mention that our defensive system isnt easy to learn, specially for wings who have a big defensive load to carry. So I expect us to have some growing pains at the start of the season. BUT if we can stay somewhat healthy and the new guys want to go to work, I think we will figure the defensive side out after maybe 20 games. Klay clearly wants to be here and prove he is still worth a starting job, Grimes plays for a new contract and I think Marshall wants to finally win... so motivation shouldnt be a problem whatsoever.
    I just hope we can still find minutes for O-MAx and Hardy... cause those guys will be extremely important going forward. O-Max is the natural Maxi replacement and Hardy (specially his scoring ability) will be more and more important when Klay/Kyrie get older and need more breaks, specially in the reg season. But overall I really like our depth, team structure as well as age structure for the next couple of years.
    We reached the finals, so the goal should be to get there again. And I really think this roster has a chance... but looking at OKC, I think those guys will be a real test this season if we meet them again in the playoffs. I expect our team and OKC to be the 2 best teams in the West.

    I think Mavs has improved defensively.
    Naji has nearly the same physical tools in comparison to DJJ besides athleticism, and I believe Naji is stronger being able to take hits to the chest, hold his own against bigger, stronger guys while being nimble enough to keep up with crafty guards like Shai.
    Grimes, I believe is a better defender than Josh because I think Grimes is more disciplined and fundamentally sound defensively, shifting his hips and sliding his feet to stay on his guy. And being quick enough to stay on guards so it also makes him versatile defending 1-3 position.
    I like our new guys. They really are more versatile and talented to face all kinds of problems than before.

    The ability to get an easy bucket from him by throwing a lob and his athleticism will be missed. We don’t need a fighter. This is not boxing. It is basketball. Those points will be missed tremendously. When Luka or Kyrie penetrates and draws the defense, having someone who can catch a lob
    has created easy buckets for us, which is the main reason in my opinion we got so far last year. when the threes are not dropping, those lobs we counted on for scoring will missed if we don’t get someone else with the last roster spot who loves to catch lobs.

    • @darkvader2024

      Tbf, Lively and Gafford will pretty much always be on the floor for that. And diversifying the offense will probably yield better results. With everyone able to do something differently. It's a lot harder to stop that kind of offense.

    • @invisobill2125
      @invisobill2125 Před měsícem

      The lobs are flashy but they still have Lively, Gafford, and PJ. Those buckets will be missed but I don’t reckon DJJ caught more than one lob a game. He wasn’t in the pick and roll much so his lobs were just occasional cuts or fast break lobs. We’d rather have bigger more physical players who are all around more competent on offense. Plus I’m sure Marshall can catch an occasional lob, dude looks to be about 6’8 and will have opportunities to find himself unaccounted for, I bet they start that stuff in practice right away, getting them used to the Luka style.

    Marcel you are 100% correct, defense in the NBA is all effort. Luka, Kyrie, and Klay can play defense by extending the effort required but that means they will need more time to recoup on the bench. The Mavericks hopefully are a deeper team for the coming year and Kidd can now play ten or more players in most games. The lesson from losing in five games to the Celtics is that Luka was beat up and in pain and Kyrie was not at 100%. Team management needs to plan on playing 100 games per year. After the start of most games Luka and Kyrie should not always be on the court together and there should be frequent substitutions of Marshall, Grimes, Hardy, Exem, Gafford, and Kleber. Kidd should try to hold Luka, Kyrie, and Klay's total minutes to less than 35 minutes per game. Play the bench players a lot during the second and third quarters. Then you finish the game with Luka, Kyrie, Klay, PJ and Lively.

    Here’s the truth, DJJ wasn’t the issue these playoffs it was PJ. Before you say I’m wrong, combine DJJ’s and PJ’s stats in the playoff series from the LAC through MIN.
    You’ll see that DJJ shot 50% from the field and 40% from 3, and PJ shot 43% from the field and 32% from 3. So we can deduce that adding Klay and losing PJ was the correct move.
    However, DJJ and Klay play the small forward position, and it would disrupt the locker room benching DJJ. You can’t move DJJ or Klay to the Power Forward position because they’re too small or incompetent because of injuries.
    This rendered PJ untouchable, also, Nico and Kidd are hoping PJ improve on his 3 point shooting because they know what I’m telling you all.

    Think DJJ just wanted another situation where he would be able to bet on himself with even more at stake. On the Mavs, he’s a role player. On the clippers, he’ll get closer to being able have more of a focal point. Not saying he’s THAT good, but even if it doesn’t work out, he ultimately just wanted to have a chance at it.

  • @SquidysTents
    @SquidysTents Před měsícem

    I mean this will probably be the biggest contract of his career, so I can’t really blame him for taking advantage of it. I think Mavs will def be a worse defensive team, but I don’t think it will be a significant drop-off. I think the offensive gain will outweigh the defensive loss.

    Klutch Sports happened, that's what happened. DJJ never sounded like a guy worried so much about money ($1M/year difference??) or playing time, he arrived in Dallas talking about how he wanted to be a Mavs before but the trade didn't happen. He voiced several times that he was happy in Dallas and he wanted to stay. All of that BEFORE changing to Klutch Sports. All of a sudden there were reports that with the departure of PG he would have more playing time compared to the Mavs if they acquired Klay, that he wanted more money, etc. The tax and changing places, etc. I don't think that $1M/year makes up for that, more likely they wanted to do a stand-off with Nico to see if he would give the full MLE but instead, Nico said, you doing that? Ok. There were already reports about the Mavs being interested in Naji Marshall, so they pulled the trigger on that. So DJJ had to settle for less than the full MLE in a situation that will certainly be worse than what he had in Dallas, I doubt he will get the same easy looks but sure, he might get more playing time. Ultimately I still think he actually wanted to stay in Dallas.

    Naji is an upgrade from DJ

  • @user-bs8zt2gq1p
    @user-bs8zt2gq1p Před měsícem

    Before Mavs Jones claim to fame was winning the Slam Dunk Contest. We say DJ was a lock down defender but is that really true. Yes he always took on the best outside player point of attack but look at the stats of those players against Mavs. Same can be said on the other side against Luka, he not only draws the best defender but gets doubled more than anyone in the league yet he still puts up 30pts. So is their defender considered a Lock Down Defender? Not sure giving up 30 is Lock Down. What we lost on the O side of the ball with DJ so obvious especially in playoffs where Celtics just him wide open especially in close situations. Solid defender, below average on O side, he had his career year because Luka and Irving drew so many double teams and Jones by design from the other teams coaching staff was left wide open knowing what he was and has always been on the O side. Yes he will be missed but I believe Naji and Grimes are definitely upgrades over DJ and Green. And certainly Klay is miles better than THJ. Will be interesting to see who steps up to become our 3rd reliable scorer.

    After 3 years in LA with no point guard like Luka, he will be a vet min guy again. If he would have stayed in Dallas he could have had another big contract in 3 years and he could have played deep in the playoffs every year on a contender. Now he choose the Clippers who are going nowhere.
    If he did it for the money it will bite him in the ass.
    If he did it to be a starter, good luck.

    This is stupid, this team roaster keeps evolving in one season or even just half a season and got to the finals, now they had to rebuild and retry with a complete new team chemistry smh. Dallas should just stay with their in season and trade deadline trades. losing DJJ is wild. I said this because Luck and Kyrie as leaders rely extremely high on specific type of team chemistry. You'll never gonna know if it's gonna work with a new one. Hoping for the best for them.

    How can a guy be 1a and 1b on your chefs ingredients list and then he decides he wants to pay cheaper than market price.
    Everyone thought they would be lucky if he sighed for the FULL MLE. The fact they could have most likely got him for 10 a year becomes a embarrassment. Now your 3rd or 4th rotation guard(depending on how he plays on O) is your POA defender. With Luka and Kyrie being 1a and 1b(Embarrassing is right).
    Mavs needed a 3 point shooter. but they did have one for the first half of last season. His name was....Tim Hardaway Jr. (He's got a complaining dad too)

    Why are you saying you all were convinced that DJJ was coming back when just Nico doing the beta and not cooking and frankly not having a seat at the table lost their best POA defender. All in a Hour. He could have called him and said we are not waiting anymore than a hour. see what you can get, we will beat it if it's not over the MLE. Instead he signs with the clippers a hour after we signed Naji(whose good but not a guard defender).
    Revisionist history and why sports media is at the bottom. It's why that GS writer wrote that Klay was a pampered problem in the locker room last year and ya whined "Why say it now". Well obviously because like all sport writers, ya only write positive stuff unless you ain't got nothing good you can say and the fanbase would have ate him alive. Now that he's gone, now it can be told.
    Hey I like having Klay. Would I rather have someone like Kennard who probably a better 3point shooter nowadays and can do a little more for you than Klay(who can move around screens and shoot set shots is it). And for cheaper. Yeah I probably go with the younger healthier guy.

    Where's your next video? Looks like we are going to have the twins! Also I'm going to be the father of twins! I'll make sure they play basketball. I'm about 6'5" and shoot 70% in practice from 3. I'll make sure they're better than their old man! I have won an L.A. Fitness 3-point shoot around in which I dominated. I honestly think if I knew how good I was I could have played high school, college, and pro ball. I just played for fun in the gyms though. I actually have dominated over some good college basketball players and put a team together that beat The University of Texas at Austin's basketball team in 1999. My parents just discouraged me playing and wanted me to pursue a career with my brain. I know you don't care about all of that, but I love basketball, and I am proud of what I have achieved. I think I honestly can compete with some pros. I've played lockdown defense on 6'9" players. I'm too old now though at 44. It's all hypothetical at this point. I just hope I can teach my twin boys. I'm a bit cocky. I know it, but I also backed it. I've played 3 on 1 against guys my size or taller and killed them. I really wish I went pro. Sorry that I did not. I have done well in life though but never made my parents proud. They expected too much. I've had some drinks this 4th of July... hence why I can't seen to stop typing. Also my wife is outside talking to a friend who just saved our marriage. Okay... time to stop. Sorry for this wall of text! I love all of you!
