- Hard times come again no more! We sat down to record this and got it in the first take, which doesn't happen a lot. Got to film this at the old abandoned LA zoo, which made for a very cool, and very echo-y, setting. Banjo is in double C tuning.
So happy to see clawhammer making a long overdue comeback. Phoebe is one of the best musicians in this style I’ve seen. So much soul in this genre; I feel like I’m back in Appalachia whenever I hear her play.
This is, by far, my favorite little corner of youtube. It makes me inordinately happy whenever I see a new video pop up in my feed!
Great acoustics in that room, just a slight echo, I love it when an instrument brings the room to the recording ♡♡♡
Phoebe!!! This is one of my favorite folk songs. You played it beautifully 😍
As others have alluded - keep on making the music you play Yours.
Never be afraid to own it. That's the magic and you got it :)
makes me feel like a happy little bee fluttering about, love the echo!
Love this song. Thank you for playing it so beautifully.
This piece evokes a feeling that poor folks know so well. Beautifully played.
Hi Phoebe. You play the clawhammer banjo very beautifully. Looking forward to your next listings.
0:08 such a great acoustic space already your playing spills out like a waterfall, like magic, Ms. Sanders!
There are some amazing acoustics in some of the tunnels and older buildings in San Francisco. If you ever get a chance to do some exploring in The City, bring a banjo. Although to be safe, bring a couple of friends, some of the out of the way places can have weirdos (like any place these days). But construction in SF has been going on for 200 years and there are some very cool spots. Gosh, now that I think about it, the Palace of Fine Arts would be a heck of a place for a banjo tune or two! Every place has it's character, San Fran is no different. Just a thought. I really enjoyed both the acoustics in this video and seeing the towels or whatever you had tucked in the banjo head. A buddy of mine once made a two little clips that held two little flasks of hooch in his resonator. Of course one couldn't see that through the head "skin" because there wasn't light from behind, but it was a bit of fun. But those days are long gone, he's since passed on, and my days of hiking and campfires are in the rear view mirror I think. But I still enjoy a good banjo tune! Thank you for producing and sharing all of these wonderful tunes with us here on CZcams!
2:45 BRILLIANT! I could not even tell it ended all the angels live in us now! Great work! Bravo! God bless you & yours Sanders have a great weekend...
& the heat might get catastrophic & effect us all equally (see Thailand & India right now..) so y'all & everyone you know get your hands on a power generator & stay safe & cool in the heat coming this summer okay? k..
really nice phoebe. resonates beautifully wherever you are....perfect
Wow! Those acoustics are so pretty!
beautiful sound, great moody atmosphere. have a blessed day ma'am!
This is extremely beautifully played. Banjo always has been my favorite.
Such a natural player, great sound in that space too, natural reverb :))
Despite modern sensitivities, I like much of Foster's repertoire... particularly when well performed as here.
A song I know! Good interpretation, let me know when your CD comes out, not kidding.
Sounds great Phoebe and the slight echo just sets it off.
This sounds gorgeous! Listening gave me such a peaceful feeling. Always loved this tune as a choral song, but your sensitive, meditative playing makes me want to try figuring it out on banjo too 😊
You’re really musical! You interpret each line beautifully and a little different from the last
So funny that this is how I find the name of one of my favorite songs from Sid Meyer's Civ VI, and played so beautifully.
Apropos to hard times, seating that resonates in ways more than one
Amazing 👍👍👍😁😁
This one has the best sound 👌
Lovely arrangement Phoebe! Now do us a favor lass and put up a tab because I have no ear for music!
As always, your music is inspiring! Thank
You
This song is my fav. Well done :)
Nice spot for the acoustic effects.
I love this song, thanks for playing the old ones❤
Nicely done, Phoebe!
You just combined two CZcams spaces I love (Shanties and Banjo). Thank you for this dear Lady and good night (it is night here in Europe)
Phoebe is at the old zoo in Hollywood I believe in this video..
Love that tune. Thanks again!
Been enjoying your playing for awhile now. Do like the extra echo/reverb. smiles for miles
awesome
Really liked your beautiful claw hammer playing, acoustics echoes, and the abandoned zoo background makes the song more meaningful!
Great stuff! (makes me sad...but I love it anyway) Thank you, Phoebe.
This gave me a moment of such serenity, great playing
Love it
Love it :). Thanks for sharing these wonderful moments.
Love this! You are treasure Phoebe!
0:46 your intuitive & gifted (artists brains are fundamentally different so this is a great example of how: in your playing) sensitivity to notes & chords is also magical
Way to blow smoke up someones ass
Love this! Makes me want to pick up the banjo
Lovely, thank you so much
Sounds so beautiful.
Beautifully played.
Fantastic
Beautiful, nice work :D
Love your syncopated rhythms!👍🤗
Double c tuning😊
Awesome, i was just hoping you would do this one!
lovely playing as always :)
Yay! Another video!
Excellent
awesome!
I love the song! I'll add this to my list of tunes to learn. You should play another Modal tuning song!
1:22 hahahaha they are also marching with squeaky sneakers ;) nice
I don't know if you're married to that dish towel or not, but Clifton Hicks reviewed a good banjer mute a while back you might be interested in checking out. It's just a wood screw under a platform that presses up on the head that you can position discreetly and control how much you want it to mute. Might be worth it with that transparent head. I think some guy just makes them out of his garage.
Thank you Phoebe my dear. I'm an older man who didn't apply discipline I see and feel and hear with you young ladies I've found here, although these touch me deeply with emotion. Something with my Scottish-Irish Pennsylvania heritage I'll wager. God bless you all and thank you so much, love and success, happiness to you all 🤗😘🎅🤠🙏
Thanks! 😎
🤘
So cute
Beautiful song and the words carry a strong message, why do you not sing?
Nice!
Thanks! Phoebe 🎶🪕
Soon...I bees. A free man........Freeess. man.
Can you sing? I love watching you play
J'adore ! J'ai récupéré la guitare de mon père et j'ai commencé à apprendre quelques accords... un jour j'apprendrais le banjo, ça m'a toujours fascinée !
Est-ce plus simple que la guitare ?
yaaaay!
Not the cheeriest looking scene but the acoustics are really good!
GREAT acustics! What is inside your banjo? Money from busking? BTW, how did the forma dance with the levely green dress go?
No effect pedal needed.
HEEHOOHA!
Do you know what kind of animal once lived on your set?
What kind of banjo are you playing ?
What banjo do you play?
Tab?
1:08 now the civilizations are marching & dancing like a sea of numbers, yes the march of the angels
?
Love it
