Kelly's board is shocking.
What I find funny is all these post about how Kelly needs to ride bigger boards or different boards. I guess they forgot that Kelly is a 11 time world champ and single handedly changed the surfing world and what is possible to do on a wave. He had and still has more influence in the surfing world than just about anyone on the planet except for a handful of other legends. It's like saying " Hey Tiger, your using the wrong club on this hole brah" or like telling Tony Hawk he would skate better on a different board. Kelly knows better than anyone what he needs to ride. Let him do what he does better than anyone else on the planet. Especially all of you in the peanut gallery.
he might know what feels good under his feet, but he doesn't know what makes his surfing look good to the judges anymore.
@@krusher74 I doubt what the judges think matters to him as much as it used too. I do think pushing board designs is high on his priority list and experimenting with different materials. As far as contest goes and surfing in general, he has nothing left to prove to anyone including judges. No one has or probably will exceed his accomplishments. Ever.

Some outside insights can be fully valid,… even 'the best' sometimes make mistakes of choicing,.. or mistakes in some aspects of perspectives.
@@bonsummers2657 Touche Bon. I can agree with that. Everyone can make mistakes. Even the best. I do believe Kelly is surrounded by the best in the business when it comes to board design, materials , etc. The point I was trying to make is that, to me, it seems like Kelly is more interested in progressing the future of surfing than worrying about what a judge thinks. Of course I'm sure he wants to win but putting himself in competition and testing out new boards in those competitions is a good way to find out what works( and free surfing of course) what's gonna happen if Kelly wins a contest on a brand new board design? The surfing world will want to know what hes riding. Translation: board design progression, validation that hes onto something new and financial gains and possibly the need to stay relevant. Let's face it, if Kelly speaks, the surfing world listens. Everything I say about Kelly doesnt come from a personal love for the guy. Its facts. Regardless of what idiots like Jeff Rickerson says. No one can deny what Slater has done for surfing. The same could be said for Tom Curren, Greg Knoll, Simon Anderson, Duke Kahanamoko, Gerry Lopez, Laird Hamilton and others who have put surfing where it is today.

John Davis I think his new boards got a lot of spark but Kelly’s getting older. I don’t know if he would do better on a more traditional board but he definitely wouldn’t be as good as he was in his prime. Maybe the new whippier boards are what he thinks he has his best shot standing out on?
I've been thinking this as soon as he stepped off C.I's. He's still got the skill just digs way more rail and is less consistent, i feel he's just cashing out at this point, try sell a few cheap to make boards for $1000+. He surely made a shitload off those sci-fi's, even tho they all end up on the 2nd hand rack at the surfshop for some strange reason!? 🤔🤔

I surfed the 81' swell at Bells.Never seen anything like it. So much butt out on the peaks I couldn't even lick all of them. 17 foot at 21 second. Me and Tommy Carroll were out the back on Rincon. I was gettin 7 turn lefts all the way into the Bells Bowl and Tommy was throwin buckets out the back on the right. High school was sick.
