This is everything I wanted. Robert had to let Aaron go before they can heal and rekindle their love, and Aaron had to feel in charge of his love life without Robert trying to pull him back. Now they've both made the mutual decision to move on from each other; they're on the same page for the first time in so long. The future of Robron is bright.

It has been for a long time, and the point of this whole messy storyline was to bring forth all of their issues, one of those being that they have been so wrapped up in the intensity ("intense" was Robert's word) of their romance that they didn't see how separate they really were. Aaron was struggling with trusting Robert, and Robert was, well, being Robert. If you go back and watch their story, they were going downhill for a while. Their wedding was beautiful but everything around it was toppling down. So while yes, they're not together now, and they've both agreed to go their separate ways, they're finally seeing eye to eye. And that, I believe, is the point. All of the drama with Rebecca and Lawrence was Robert avoiding the truth about what happened with Aaron, that it was his fault, and though he started to understand a few weeks ago, this was the first time he really let himself see a world without Aaron. Robert was metaphorically avoiding eye contact with Aaron, and once he started to see the problem for what it was, he started to understand where Aaron was coming from. I think that's a greater sign of love, to understand, to listen, and, when needed, to let go. In short, I think the issue with Robron, like many real and fictitious couples, was poor communication. Tonight, they really listened and communicated. Robert finally accepted what Aaron needs (right now). Now if I'm being honest, it is the potential for a bright Robron future that I'm talking about. I don't know exactly what the writers are planning, but from a narrative perspective, so many doors have been opened after tonight for the two of them. Because they both, not just Aaron, had to accept that what they once had is gone... and should be gone. They were a broken couple, approaching the border of toxic, truthfully. And now that they both can let that go, they can grow something new. At least that's what I see. Some will see it differently, but I am very hopeful after tonight. This is what I wanted and expected a long, long time ago. I could go on a much longer rant lol but I hope that made some inkling of sense

Based on the dialogue and pure emotion in this episode (specifically this scene) I have concluded that... Aaron chose Robert over Dr.Alex and went back to the hospital to try and save their marriage / get his husband back. HOWEVER, at this point it was too late because Robert had already made up his mind that he needed to let Aaron go. It was extremely clear by the expression on Aaron's face that he wanted to make it seem as though it was his decision to pursue Alex and not Roberts (which is not what he wanted to do.) For me this episode solidified two things. 1. Aaron is still very much in love with Robert. 2. Robert has taken the first steps to being a selfless human being. We needed a reset button on the relationship and that's exactly what we got here. If they are to be happy in the future it's important that Aaron, his family and friends support his decision to be with Robert again. They all need to see him for the new man he's becoming and not the old destructive, manipulative person he was. Thanks for the upload mate Happy Holidays.
My heart cannot take this. Their relationship is not perfect, it will never be. But Aaron & Robert are each other’s soul mate. You cannot go through what they’ve been through and walk away. Their chemistry, thanks to Danny & Ryan won’t let them be apart. I have always believed and still do that they will be together. Even it right now they need to be apart. I have not lost hope on our boys and I NEVER will.
So...Robert CAN cry...I saw that internal tear coming down his nostril. Whenever one of the two performs in a stunningly realistic way, the other actor just grabs the moment and feeds off of it. These two currently have a monopoly on Emmerdale chemistry. Long live Robron.
Danny Miller is the best actor in soap. No one can convey the type of authentic emotion than he can. You just really feel everything he feels. He is so authentic. No one comes close to Danny Miller.
This truly was the best episode involving Robert. I'm really proud of him today. He made the right call (and so did Aaron, I guess). If they both prove to have healthy character development on their own from here on out, then I'll have no problem with them getting back together in the future. Until then, I'm very excited for their new friendship and the adventures they'll have as good friends. And bravo to Ryan Hawley for finally being able to shed a tear during an emotional scene. Took him long enough...but anyway, Merry Christmas, folks!!!
Emmerdale has always been open about the fact that Robert and Aaron will ultimately reunite next year. The pair will even have a second wedding in the summer, but for the time being, the big question is what will ultimately bring them back together
This made me happy and sad all at the same time. Ryan needs to clean up next award season. I would be madder and sadder if I didn't know that Robron will be getting back together next year. Thanks so much for taking the time on Christmas day to upload this.

this was a great moment in the history of the soap....they really ALL pulled it off......and as the central character..Robert/Ryan ...proved to be the amazing actor that all have known him to be.....HE CARRIED IT TO THE ULTIMATE CONCLUSION......and the ending was brilliant.....now both said their good-by and can move on.......it will be interesting now to see what the writers do to the Robert character???????and to watch the aaron/alex relationship.......here is hoping a happy 2018 for the soap...for all the actors.....and for Robert/Aaron.......Ryan/Danny
Quite a many thoughts in my head right now... I do like when soaps are brave and do these experimental Christmas specials. There was so much stuff going on that I think I need to to re-watch this once or twice. I honestly think this episode has a potential to become some sort of cult classic in a few years time. But I am totally conflicted about how it all ended. On the other hand I do love angst and rather like the idea of them pushing reset button to their relationship and starting it all from the very beginning, but there is also this part of me that would have wished for a really soapy and syrupy Christmas reunion as this would have a been a perfect opportunity to do it. I mean atleast for me it was 100% clear that Aaron had decided to "choose" Robert, but changed his mind at the very last minute after hearing what the other man said. All the praise for Emmerdale also for being brave enough to do a Christmas special centered around a same sex couple during the holiday which is the most important time of year for so many people and families, I think it was really cool and important thing from them to do. And how brilliant was Ryan Hawley? ALL the awards for him, please! Talented Mr.Hawley... Huge thank you to Wastelanddrabr for uploading these videos allready tonight. I really enjoyed this Christmas episode and mine take from this is if you love a person that much you have to let them go like Robert is doing for Aaron. He loves Aaron more than himself, he said, and that's a lot for Robert, because you know Robert loves himself. He's letting Aaron try with someone else and he knows if that doesn't work out that he's still there for Aaron to come back to. Even though it hurts, he's doing the right thing because when they get back together, Aaron will know that he tried to move on with Alexis, but it's Robert he truly loves. I hope I explain this right, the take that I got from this episode.

Meaning Robert will not act as an obstacle and Aaron is a drama queen. Robert so honest here he wants Aaron to be happy. Aaron wants Robert to plead and beg for him back. For once Robert let Aaron go completely.
Looking back, Aaron had every reason to leave him but held him for so many times because he truly loved Rob. It was Aaron who first confessed his love for Robert. It was Rob who broke them up. If you think about it in Aaron's perspective, he chose the child for Robert. And you're not a drama queen for that. You didn't get the whole story.
Well to me, Aaron is lying to himself again. I agree. When Aaron entered the hospital that was his intention. Then as the conversation went another way he changed his tact and let Robert think he was choosing Alex rather than allowing Robert to 'let him go'. He's sick to death of people making decisions for him. The initial dialogue clearly made it seem he was choosing Robert then once we were all holding our breath and wiping our tears, they throw in the twist and have him choose Alex. So basically, they make it appear one way so they can then turn it around and leave everyone guessing. Classic soap tactic!
I'm glad that Rob's finally becoming a better person and he's putting Aaron first. But Emmerdale won't be the same without Robron. They need to get back together ASAP!!! 😣❤

this cuts really deep. how can they do this, this was not suppose to happen they have to get back together. the writers need to come up with something that brings them back together and it remain that way. I tell you every time they get back together or it seems like that the writers decide to do something that drives them apart as if there are no gay relationships that actually last even through pain and happiness. My heart is hurting for them both because as you can see in this scene neither one of them really want what they have together to end . I don't think this with Alex and Aaron being together will work because all have a certain type we love and what we look for in a person, not all things with Robert were bad and i don't see the chemistry with Alex like I see with Robert. hopefully something does happen that gets Robert and Aaron back together

This whole episode was very sad too me, I agree with Daphine45 on everything that was said. I however would take a different take on all of this. I am going to go on a rant so hold on folks. 1. I would not have let Robert go while I was in prison, I would made him wait outside little Whitney did for Bobby everyday with a sign. 2 when I found out the Becky with good hair was hanging around just to damn much I would of had my family chase her around wIth a bag of oranges, no bruising. 3 if then found out becky with the good hair got pregnant and then said it was Roberts, I would of saId okay, I want a DNA test plan simple. 4 the New Year is about to begin and you and start it with a sweet and good man who happens to be Doctor, but does he make you quiver?? if not take to the good with the bad, because if Robert starts to date again that will break your heart. Hey just calm down a bit, I know you're disappointed but this is a soap. And it's also dramatic writing 101. A couple splits, the fans want them back together...so the journey is that there needs to be a temporary obstacle to block the way, heighten the tension and bring the angst like the soaps love to do. And mark my word Alex is an obstacle and a temporary one too because not only has it been confirmed that Robron are marrying in the summer 2018 but one thing that carries through with them is the acknowledgement that even though apart they still love each other. Just go on the journey, both the highs and lows. They are going be friends and LOL that's going to fail because they're in love, and Alex will begin to see that Robert will always be there, and it'll be Alex that points that out to Aaron. like a hundred other plot lines in soap, the temp love interest will see that it'll never be over so Alex won't be sticking around for much longer. This happens all the time with soap couples. Like i said it's dramatic writing 101.

Ahhh my poor heart was not expecting that breakage. Even though Robron isn't going to be a thing right now I hope that Aaron doesn't continue a relationship with Alex. My heart is broken, I'm trying to accept it. The writers broke it when they let rebaka got knock up and the baby was born they will never be together again its impossible and for them being friends I think the writer should let that go don't put Robert in that position he already loose all don't let him suffer through friendship let him be who he wants to be happy and love by someone who will love him no matter wat are the cost cause they love him for who he is and not what he can do for them just let the friendship thing go and let Robert start having a home and a family that he can finally have with someone else ....... Robert clearly ended the relationship NOT Aaron. Aaron LOVES drama and for once Robert did a selfless act.
Meaning Robert will not act as an obstacle and Aaron is a drama queen. Robert so honest here he wants Aaron to be happy. Aaron wants Robert to plead and beg for him back. For once Robert let Aaron go completely.

Looking back, Aaron had every reason to leave him but held him for so many times because he truly loved Rob. It was Aaron who first confessed his love for Robert. It was Rob who broke them up. If you think about it in Aaron's perspective, he chose the child for Robert. And you're not a drama queen for that. You didn't get the whole story.
Well to me, Aaron is lying to himself again. It's obvious that Aaron chose Robert, but Rob had to go on this stupid rant "how it was his decision to step aside" thus "why is everybody telling me how to feel?" Aaron answered. I hope they can be friends, I just hope Aaron doesn't end up cheating on Mr nice with Rob.

I agree. When Aaron entered the hospital that was his intention. Then as the conversation went another way he changed his tact and let Robert think he was choosing Alex rather than allowing Robert to 'let him go'. He's sick to death of people making decisions for him. The initial dialogue clearly made it seem he was choosing Robert then once we were all holding our breath and wiping our tears, they throw in the twist and have him choose Alex. So basically, they make it appear one way so they can then turn it around and leave everyone guessing. Classic soap tactic!
I'm glad that Rob's finally becoming a better person and he's putting Aaron first. But Emmerdale won't be the same without Robron. They need to get back together ASAP!!! 😣❤

this cuts really deep. how can they do this, this was not suppose to happen they have to get back together. the writers need to come up with something that brings them back together and it remain that way. I tell you every time they get back together or it seems like that the writers decide to do something that drives them apart as if there are no gay relationships that actually last even through pain and happiness. My heart is hurting for them both because as you can see in this scene neither one of them really want what they have together to end . I don't think this with Alex and Aaron being together will work because all have a certain type we love and what we look for in a person, not all things with Robert were bad and i don't see the chemistry with Alex like I see with Robert. hopefully something does happen that gets Robert and Aaron back together

This whole episode was very sad too me, I agree with Daphine45 on everything that was said. I however would take a different take on all of this. I am going to go on a rant so hold on folks. 1. I would not have let Robert go while I was in prison, I would made him wait outside little Whitney did for Bobby everyday with a sign. 2 when I found out the Becky with good hair was hanging around just to damn much I would of had my family chase her around wIth a bag of oranges, no bruising. 3 if then found out becky with the good hair got pregnant and then said it was Roberts, I would of saId okay, I want a DNA test plan simple. 4 the New Year is about to begin and you and start it with a sweet and good man who happens to be Doctor, but does he make you quiver?? if not take to the good with the bad, because if Robert starts to date again that will break your heart. Hey just calm down a bit, I know you're disappointed but this is a soap. And it's also dramatic writing 101. A couple splits, the fans want them back together...so the journey is that there needs to be a temporary obstacle to block the way, heighten the tension and bring the angst like the soaps love to do. And mark my word Alex is an obstacle and a temporary one too because not only has it been confirmed that Robron are marrying in the summer 2018 but one thing that carries through with them is the acknowledgement that even though apart they still love each other.
Just go on the journey, both the highs and lows. They are going be friends and LOL that's going to fail because they're in love, and Alex will begin to see that Robert will always be there, and it'll be Alex that points that out to Aaron. like a hundred other plot lines in soap, the temp love interest will see that it'll never be over so Alex won't be sticking around for much longer. This happens all the time with soap couples. Like i said it's dramatic writing 101.
Of course i am disappointed but i am also well aware its a tv programe but there is drama and angst and then there is over egging the situation to a ridiculous and extreme way the way things have been recently
