      Not really they attack other protozoans, rotifers and nematodes, pretty much everything in their proximity which still leave potentially a lot of pathogens and parasites inside the snail and on their own they do reduce the immune system of the snail too

      Makes me think that having these little guys might be quite useful to the snail - since they stop anything else, which may be more harmful, invading. Anton calls them a parasite, but wouldn't they be better classed as a symbiote?

      @@molybdaen11 The production of leukocytes also takes up nutrients.
      The main point of parasitism is that the host is harmed by the parasite and gets no benefits in the process. Here we have an organism that kills "99.9% of germs" in the host at the price of taking up some of the host's nutrients. To me that sounds like mutualism, where both organisms end up net positive (the worm gets a safe place to live and the snail doesn't have to worry about all the germs and viruses).

    🍣🥢 Sushi in Texas should be fine. 👍
    Fish used for sushi is supposed to be flash frozen, per USDA guidelines, in order to kill any potential parasites inside of the fish.
    In recent years, there have been several cases of parasitic infections from consuming sushi in California.
    California has also been responsible for distribution of lots of other mishandled food. Lettuce and spinach come to mind.

    The micro world is incredibly dynamic than maybe we can possibly imagine. Maybe these worms have super colonies spread over multiple people, opposing super colonies, causing groups of people opposed to each other for reasons us humans make up, like vegans v carnivores. We might smell an "enemy" at a subconscious level and invent narratives as cover stories. If different groups of people, like ethnicities or races, having endogenously similar diets and thus similar microbes and parasites, then that could be a driver of racism and all the sociological narratives of power are so much bunk and PR fluff we tell ourselves to still be "masters of ourselves". That may be the origin of the disgust mechanism, a very unconsciously energised feeling. In the 5 factor psychology model disgust correlates strongly with a propensity towards racism. A survival and dominance strategy not for ourselves (fooling ours glorious selves) but for our micro parasitic drivers. If you eat a food you're not used to (like spicy food) you may suffer discomfort but at a micro level is an imbalance in you get diversity like an eco-system out of balance. It hurts. ARFID people (avoidant restricted food intake disorder) are an extreme example and only slowly overcome their dislike of almost all foods except their narrow taste range.
    Maybe the best way to live harmoniously with diverse peoples is by sharing foods and becoming used to different tastes. All the sociological theories of power and race and imperialism all don't work as woke politics is divisive and only seem to form new pathways of hate towards other groups, also satisfying our micro parasitic masters. Just as the way to a man's heart is through his stomach maybe the way to better race relations is also through the stomach.
    Think of all the metaphors we use for what we don't like. "He makes me sick". "I can't stomach him/that idea". "The whole thing smells". We are not masters of ourselves but slaves. One famous uncontroversial example is people infected with toxoplasmosis (about 1/2 of people) and one sign of that is their love of cats (guilty myself) even though we are not the target species or even part of the target order of rodents.

      Worm parasites of snails often have crazy multiple host lifecycles. Typically the snail is infected from worm eggs in feces of the host of the adult worms, such as a bird or fish. Sometimes that host is infected by eating snails, but other times it is by eating the thing that eats the snail. There are other, more comped arrangements with mixtures of growth, asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction, and up to 5 different hosts. At least from what I remember.

    amazing video as always but the state of the comments especially the bots is just awful and YT does absolutely nothing, i mean these bots here with the lewd pfps and generally just some random positive comment that is unfitting 99.9999% of the time are the lesser evil, but these other bots on other channels that always "My content is better than X-Channel" or say outright disgusting things favoring absolute degeneracy

    This is a treat. It is incorrect to say that these are the only eusocial parasites, though. Many ants are parasites of other ant colonies... although I think what you means is that the *nest* is a parasitic structure (that is unique I think... and creepy!)

    How it is mysterious that the design that works best spontaneously appear just because it works... as if Darwinian selection just explores the space of solutions to the question "what can be life inside rules of physics ?" (life says : "let's try that or that or that").. but we can extend the question to all levels of organization of life.. and maybe matter

    • @Flaschenteufel
      @Flaschenteufel Před měsícem

      That's not how it works. Life just takes billions of random mutations and whatever fits best into a nicht usually survives. At least til something more efficient takes it's place or the environment changes.

    • @oneeyejack2
      @oneeyejack2 Před měsícem

      @@Flaschenteufel how do you contradict what I said ??
      "Life makes mutation and whatever survive" is the same thing as "life explores the space of solutions".. You have all the "possible" forms of life. Some works better than other.. life explores the possibilities by random little step.. "to explore" does mean "try everything randomly to see what works"..
      The space of "what works" exists before the exploration and it's just law of physics applied to organisms and their environment.. Of course if you limit yourself to the point of view of the organism you have to include its biotope and that make its solutions dependent of all other life forms in the vicinity.. but for the whole biotope (for the planet) the space of "what works" for life can be defined.
      Darwinian evolution makes it look like "life designs comes from nowhere" and that confuses people.. But nothing comes from nowhere.. the selecting part makes the design entirely dependent of physics. Life emerge from physics "what works", not from nothing.
