    That's the grizzled, gentle poppa bear wisdom of a man who can clearly see, that which only a fool believes. Don't save her, she don't want to be saved. Michael McDonald, the a Yacht Rock pimp of relationship wisdom. Reasoning away what a fool believes that he sees.
    I mean, if you can cipher out that a sentimental fool is trying to make a relationship work with a woman that doesn't even know what love is... underlined by the hint that the fool is scared to be alone. It really is such a smooth jam that it's hard to notice anything except that's soulful and smooth.

    I first heard the term Yacht Rock a week ago, although it apparently describes the music of an era and of of artists I have long admired and loved - Boz Scaggs, Doobies, Steely Dan, early 80s etc.
    The term itself is underwhelming though. Sounds kinda like a "Musak" of some kind. In fact, in the sense that it grew up almost side by side with American jazz 'fusion', and was created and played by a lot of players with that background, it is actually streets ahead of 'Musak, or Britpop, or punk/ new wave, or and of the many other 'waves' that have arisen since the 1960s.

    • @rosered3608
      @rosered3608 Před rokem +1

      Great observation. I was talking to my husband about this era and the artist. I see it as a lot of the artist write their own songs as-well. Artist like Hall and Oats, Van Morrison etc..grew up in doo wop a Motown ..etc. Unlike the singer songwriters James Taylor and Carole King music that is not Yacht Rock. I think Yacht Rock is a state of mind.

      That’s a good term for a lot of the smooth rock of the 70s, but there was a particular strain that formed when certain musicians and music producers began living in Marina Del Rey and the nearby beach communities. They would all congregate at Koko’s Boathouse. It’s Koko’s Boathouse and the Marina that gives yacht rock it’s nautical theme. Do a search on CZcams for Yacht Rock HD if you’re curious. There’s 12 or 13 short episodes.

"Rock the Boat" by the Hues Corporation is not rock (let alone yacht rock), but rather an overplayed and lousy disco cut that long predates your stipulated "always high seventies to low eighties". I mean, look at the noughties to 2010 - I can think of perhaps a few dozen songs that may stand the test of time. And the onesies (almost over at the time of writing - god, I'm getting old).... there's even less.
