epiphany: a moment when you suddenly feel that you understand, or suddenly become conscious of, something that is very important to you.
It's also a moment of absolute revelation
A moment of realirealization?
@@shrey549 kind of, it's like when you understand something entirely, each minimal detail
@@shrey549 it's a great moment of realisation ♡
Thank you 😍 It's so important that I finally know this 😍
I feel like this is truly a passion project for Taylor, it’s like nothing else she has ever done.
Ashlan Gruwell YES!
I agree, this seems so personal and just not for anyone? Ykwim? This is just for herself and us, her fans
True
Personally, this album gave me a throwback to her 2006-2010 music (country), but in a calm style
Ashlan Gruwell yeah! For sure
she did not write this gem for people to be calling it the worst song on folklore. it singlehandedly immortalizes the pandemic and she does it with such compassion and grace and i love her.
People are calling it the worst song on folklore?? Never heard that, but it's awful if it's happening
just bcs it's their least fav song in the album doesn't mean they immortalize the pandemic
best song imo
Folklore is my favorite album and this song is my least favorite on the album but I still love it so much
in my opinion it’s one of the best songs on folklore
When I was a little girl, I didn't know why my grandfather was the way he was. He was always apart from us. drinking. alone. One time he called me over while I was playing outside with my cousins in my grandparents house. He never spoke so this was startling. I sat next to him and he began to tell me a story about boats and bullets and having to crawl up a beach. He said if you lifted your head up the bullets would take it off. He said he could only try to bury himself in the sand and he began to dig desperately, he told me. Then he started crying and I was in shock. I had never known a man to cry. But he rocked back and forth and continued...he told me when he was digging he found a rosary in the sand. He cried and showed me a rosary. Then he stayed quiet and stopped talking and just looked and held the rosary as I slunk away from what I thought was a crazy man. I was so little. Now as an adult I understand. He was a Normandy D Day survivor. My mom told me later what it meant. I never knew anything about him but that. I know he stayed there, even if he returned home. I know he lost his mind and heart there. This song brings back my grandfather's memory so vividly. Now I cry too, for his tears were so real, and that's all I ever knew of him.
edit: Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and all medics who stood heroically against horrific circumstances and gave so much to bring our loved ones home. From the waves off the beaches of Normandy and the South Pacific to the waves of Covid we are still battling...thank you with all my heart.
I wanted to say something but my words disappear as I continued to read your comment. Let's cry for the sacrifices and survivors together. ❤️

As a nurse the line “someone’s daughter someone’s mother” and “hold your hand through plastic now” makes me tear up every time, this song is so beautifully written and Taylor gets her point across so well, it’s very difficult in the current circumstances and I am so proud of all my fellow healthcare workers for everything they have sacrificed and gone through during this pandemic ❤️ we will all get through this together

Wow! This is amazing. My husband’s mother passed away from Covid in May with a nurse holding her hand. We of course couldn’t be there. The nurses and doctors were incredible and so brave. Do you ever think that when Taylor writes certain lines she just cries at what she's created? Some lines in her songs instantly put me to tears. I wonder if she feels the same.
She once forgot that she wrote the beginning of “The Moment I Knew”!
I bet she does. I write, and some scenes I type through tears. (Whereas, some funny bits I laugh the loudest at.)

"Only twenty minutes to sleep, but you dream of some epiphany."
I was bawling when this line was sung because I literally just had a quick nap after a very tiring day at work. Every time I get a little bit tired, I am reminded of last year when I used to regularly visit the hospital due to my cancer diagnosis. I'm glad I'm in a much better state now, but every now and then, I grieve at my past and the uncertain future. My mood was flat and terrible these couple of days, but I'm finally able to cry today while listening to this song. The sadness still lingers but it feels so liberating. Thanks, Taylor.
This is beautiful

dont be ashamed feeling like this, i love how she can make everyone feel some sort of emotion in her songs. but this one hits hard.
👍Man are human too people forget that sometimes
I'm almost an adult man but Taylor's songs are amazing. Well, music is meant to be appreciated by everyone, not by specific genders or what. When music hits, it hits.

And none for Gretchen Weiners Bye 👋🏻
the first verse is about his grandfather who was in military while the second is about Pandemic. The similarity between these two is that many lives were lost. Both soldiers and medical workers witnessed too many people “breathing out”. You don’t have enough time to sleep both on battlefield and in hospital, but the only thing that can pacify your soul after seeing all those terrifying scenes is a dream about a greater power can come to the rescue.
I feel extremely overwhelmed by this song because I lost a friend to illness, something in life really can’t make sense to me. While this is an absolutely incredible song, it’s too heavy for me to listen to.
This made me tear up.. I didnt realize about that
Thank you ... This is by far the best comment to me, likes can't define this feeling

I remember when the album came out in the midst of the pandemic I was in my final year of high school and I wanted to study medicine so when I heard the line "something med school did not cover" I just started crying. For some reason this song gave me the motivation to do my best at school, and now I’m a second year medical student with a dream of becoming a psychiatrist. Thank you Taylor.

Thank you for your hard work! You are literally a "sung" hero now, with a song to call your own :)
Thank you so much for your service. Stay safe!
as a first year doctor in NYC during the time of COVID, this “historical” song is something cut out of a contemporary time. It is lovely as a “story handed down” that this song is about Taylor’s veteran grandfather, but the beauty of music (especially Taylor’s) is that a song can be interpreted one’s own way.
This song makes my experience feel seen in melody and really meant a lot to me to translate this song to my experience (and that of many others who fought COVID on the frontlines).
“Something med school did not cover
Someone's daughter, someone's mother
Holds your hand through plastic now
‘Doc, I think she's crashing out’
And some things you just can't speak about
Only twenty minutes to sleep
But you dream of some epiphany
Just one single glimpse of relief
To make some sense of what you've seen
With you I serve, with you I fall down, down
Watch you breathe in, watch you breathing out, out”
... could literally be a page from my diary the past few months that found me unprepared but full of unforgettable meaning. So grateful for this gorgeous album 🤧♥️

I saw a video from TikTok saying that the only song they skip in folklore is epiphany so I went here, I think this is one of her best song.
They're all amazing, each in their own way
Maybe they skip it because they don't want to ugly cry? I love this song, but it makes me tear up almost every time I hear it.
I only skip it to avoid breaking into tears 😭
Only people with no culture are capable to skip this amazing work of art.
The way she pulled a parallel between soldiers and doctors....I can't-

@@danih3668 you can’t help it😌
I don’t even know why, but this song makes me cry every time and I never cry because of music. This song is beautiful and it deserves more respect.
I don't care what you guys said. This is one of the best songs of the album
This is capturing a moment in history like a time capusle.
Hi
Hey
That's literally what folklore is
Literally
Literally
The way the song is mellow, almost in a lullaby manor, shows that this song was meant to calm the listener. Almost as if to ease their stress. Like a first responder that can't catch a couple minutes of sleep. Taylor Swift is an absolute genius.
yes i dont think she wanted it to be intense for us to listen to especially in these times. im happy she took this into account, she still made this as emotional as ever tho. :)
It's a tribute hymn. Utterly profound and listenable.
I lost my Dad due to Covid-19 but I have firmly resolved to become a DOCTOR so I at least can save someone else's father🌷💗 I hope my Dad will be proud, seeing me from heaven, I MISS YOU DAD.
awww. so sweet
Whoever says taylor just writes songs about her exs havent heard this masterpiece, mad respect for this song
this may be the best song shes ever produced. in terms of emotional spectrum.
Agreed.
This and ''CLEAN''
This song makes me cry every time i listen to it
This and "clean" and "soon you'll get better"
I was a Taylor Swift fan up until 2014 with my favourite songs being sparks fly, blank space and a few others. And after that I started hating her music.
But now, she has drawn me back.
I feel like Taylor just changed the karmic direction in a positive way for the planet with this album. From here on out things will be better. I feel it.
This comment is everything. I feel the shift too 🙏🏼😭
true!
I can't believe how someone could possibly write a song that captures an incident or a feeling this perfectly..I became a Swiftie only a few weeks before midnights came out and I can say that Taylor is absolutely the queen of lyrics!!! Love you Taylor 💖💖
As a veteran with ptsd, this song is very meaningful
Nobody's talking about the co-writer Aaron Dessner. Boy, part of you was put in this song and hats off to you
We need more collab between Taylor and Dessner!
I came here for the Dressner comments! Match made in heaven :-)
@sancho, mustn't forget to credit the men. I take your point, but let the girl have the spot-light fot taylor swfits' sake. 😊Her medals.
Taylor wrote the song, he just aided in the instrumentation. Taylor has said she gives co-writing credits even if it was just an instrumental choice made by someone else
Aaron Dessner is not the main writer of this song and besides he got the writing credit because he produced the song
Just crying... my dad passes away because of Covid-19 ( after 22 days in the hospital, 3 months ago ) and I could see myself in this beautiful, sad, touching song... I remember when I wake up after dreaming about him as if everything, for some incredible reason, was a misunderstood and he still alive, so the reality just hits me too hard. For me, Taylor realizes that feeling in this song, so it makes me cry...despite being absolutely beautiful. (My English is a work is progress, so...😅) I loved the song 😊❤🇧🇷
Im so sorry for your loss, stay strong Bruna ❤❤❤

This song is hands down the most beautiful song ever, shuts me up every single time. Taylor you are a genius and I'm blessed to live in the same time as you.
This song has a special place in my heart I remember listening to it for the first time ever a year before I passed my HS finals I've always wanted to attend med school and this made me want it more and here I am today a second year med student
That is great! Keep it up! The world needs you!
youre doing great, honey!!!! we're proud of you!!!
Omg u guys are so nice 😭
I believe in you, stranger. You can do it! ❤️
I feel like this song definitely has many references and relations to what’s happening now in the world - people sadly and unfortunately dying due to COVID and doctors and nurses helping and treating patients. This song makes me so emotional and especially as a nursing student. I love the lyric “with I serve, with you I fall down” and “watch you breath in, watch you breathing out.” Nurses are always there for their patients, with every last breathe♥️
She wrote it about her grandfather serving in WWII
Mareeen14 that’s probably why the comment says it has many references and relations. That’s the beauty of music and lyrics. It means something different to each individual. It may have been written about her grandfather but it’s pretty close to what’s happening right now in our world
Joy Byrne,
Well put.
This made me emotional as a student nurse. Thank you
No one:
Definitely no one:
Me: *using magnifying glass to read all the lyric videos of folklore
I need magnifying glass as well
True hahahaha
Using magnifying for whole album 😂
FR THO
U must've not catch Superman flying near the tree at 3:12 then
I lost my mom about 2 weeks ago now. I just turned 18. This has always been my favorite song off of folklore, but I never really understood it until now. "someone's daughter. someone's mother" hits so hard. I can't imagine what was going through the nurses' heads when we pulled the plug. One of them hugged my dad after she was gone, and I've never known him to be emotional outwardly, but I know he needed that. anyways, this song means a lot
No joke in my top 3 Taylor songs lyrically
This, Gold Rush, Willow and Lavender Haze
why do i feel like this song is about the frontliners in this pandemic
😌
Because it is
At first I thought it was soldiers in Normandy, but then it went to hospital workers
or maybe both
it is
you are smart!
*NOBODY:*
*ME:* 'trying not to fall alseep every after song in the album that sounds a heavenly lullaby everytime...'
Same

Personally I think this my favorite song from the Album and Taylor Swift's best song yet. This song honestly hit me right in the feels because I know people who are Healthcare workers and/or served in the Military. Overall I would say this is one of the most important songs that everyone should listen to at least once.
I didn't get the songs on this album until I watched her makings of folklore movie on Disney+, and all the songs became beautiful. This one hit my heart hard and I always tear up when I listen to the lyrics closely. Its my favorite because I feel like it's conveying unspeakable things what our medical heroes are experiencing on a daily basis. Its heartbreaking.
After the chaos of everything this year, I feel peaceful listening to this. Thank you Taylor🖤

I agree!
Saame!!
Yeah . Me too. I super agree!
Yeah Me too
Man... I really think this is for the patient, their family, doctor, or nurses that fighting in for their life. That noise at the ending part seems like a heart rate machine in the hospital. This is so damn heartbreaking yet beautiful.
epiphany is such a soulful song!!
Epiphany is 13th track of folkfore.....I think she wanted us to know it's a special song for her too!
