"We are excluding concerts that were intended for video...", includes Nirvana´s MTV Unplugged, which was a tv show.
Francisco R. And the fact that most now think Alice In Chains Unplugged was even better should knock it off the list.
Nirvanas unplugged is really overrated
@@adnsaurus it's good but not the stuff of legend imo. Doesn't belong here, it sold well only because of MTV Unplugged being the flavor of the week. Totally overrated. Neil Young is on the list (!!) but Deep Purple Made In Japan gets only a mention ?? Fail !!!
and is nowhere near as good as anything below it on the list
It’s Nirvana not even being Nirvana. Disqualified right there.
Pink Floyd Pulse?
Deep Purple Made in Japan?
Dire Straits Alchemy?
Cmoooon
Pulse was made for video
No Alchemy is a shame, also no Bruce Springsteen Hammersmith
I wish films would have worked then we would have had pink floyd live in pompeii
They made a list of 10
Andrew Merrick you’re right, no one cares, fuck off creep
Ireland's greatest rock band, Thin Lizzy and their album 'Live and Dangerous' is a huge oversight.
Seconds out by Genesis and Exit Stage Left by Rush not being on here is a crime
Exit Stage Lift is absolutely golden.
aTrickoftheFloyd It’s not a crime; it’s called “an opinion.” Get used to the fact that everyone in the world doesn’t have your EXACT SAME TASTE.
@@RobJazzful And? He still has an opinion, and rightfully so. Exit Stage Left and Second Out both excellent live albums and should be on the list for sure. Stop ripping on people for having an opinion when you're doing so yourself.
It IS a crime. In at least 3 states. In New Jersey it is Statue 37:2. And I quote:
It is a felonious violation to exclude Seconds Out by the English prog band Genesis and Exit Stage Left by the Canadian rock group Rush.
Anyone else love AC/DC 1978 "If You Want Blood You Got It".
dchenkin02 would have been my number two behind the who
Only if it was a double album.
I was at the gig... it's a brilliant album...strangely never makes any live album shortlist...
Up there with the most intense albums. They ripped the lid of the place.
Which totally invalidates the list.
I'm utterly overjoyed to see Live at Leeds topping the list. Thank you!
Rush-Exit Stage Left & Floyd-Is There Anybody Out There both have be on any list.
Rush, ha ha ha ha, shite.
Made in Japan by Deep Purple, Strangers in the night by UFO, All the worlds a stage by Rush, and Foghat live were four of the best 70s live albums.
_Live in Japan_ by The Runaways
Rush, ha ha ha ha. You must be fuckin joking. They should have been called Shite.
thin lizzy live and dangerous, great live album
oohh yeah...I missed mentioning that one. Good Call.
***** My best live album would have to be Judas Priest Live In Japan.
My all time top pick for a live rock album as well. Would have liked to see Jethro Tull "Bursting Out" and Rush "Exit Stage Left" as well. Have a lot of time for Kansas "Two For The Show" too.
I was waiting for it to show up.
Darecky yes
Live at Leeds. Greatest live album by greatest live band ever.
When 8 out of 10 coments are asking where is Made In Japan...there is something going on.
The Who's live at Leeds. Absolutely 100% the greatest live album/gig of all time.
I think that Deep Purple's Made In Japan should have made it at least to #5, just listen to these overlong jams they do with each song, those are mesmeric!
Could not agree more. One of my favourite albums, live or studio!
@@davesutherland1864 YEP!
I agree with you but go even higher . Top 3 and even 1st place. But this is the same people that put Robert Plant over Freddie Mercury as Front man...yeah, right
Just how is AC/DC's "If You Want Blood, You've Got It (Live)" not on this list? One of the best live albums I've ever heard!
ANY "best" list, is by definition, is subjective. imho, Live At Leeds is the best. YMMV
Lol
ANGUS!! ANGUS!!
I've got your back on that one......was seriously expecting to see that in the list....oh well
Rory Gallagher, Irish Tour 74 - Lynyrd Skynyrd, One More "From" the Road - Humble Pie Performance, Rockin the Fillmore - Live at the Fillmore East, Jimi Hendrix, Band of Gypsys - Yes, Yessongs - Paul McCartney/Wings, Wings Over America - Rush, All the World's a Stage - UFO, Take your pick,,,,,, and Genesis, Seconds Out. Oh, and Free Live and Frank Zappa, Live in New York.
Props for mentioning Rory Gallagher-'74
Lynyrd Skynyrd "One more from the Road" should be on this list
I agree 100% how can't you not rate one of the greatest southern rock bands on this list. That 15 minutes version of Free Bird is incredible.
They are scared to include the confederate flag.
I think it should replace kiss alive. Just my opinion
Absolutely and Filmore should have been first.
You got that right
Yessongs should have been in here and made in japan should be top 3
Totally !!!
You can't please everyone....
No Stop Making Sense by The Talking heads! Non-stop dance groove, a must for any Top Ten live album list!
Crosby Stills Nash and Young’s “4 Way Street” has some of the most emotional live performances ever recorded and the group was brave and honest enough to release it with many musical mistakes on it.
Deep Purple's Made in Japan is a total must ... and Welcome Now My Friends by ELP wouldn't have been out of place 👍🏻
Finally the who is at number 1 in a watchmojo list
Ramsey Brown with one of their best
Finally!!!
Well, Live at Leeds is the most important live rock recording ever made. It basically invented the live album as a commercial commodity and not just a bootleg or toss off
Well deserved
Yeah, they always seem to come in at #2.
Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous, anyone
Humble Pie Rockin' The Filmore is one of the best live albums ever. I still listen to it and get excited.
Personal bias here, but I nominate "Live Bullet" by Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band. Recorded in September 1975 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. Best known regionally, "Live Bullet" was released in April 1976 and shot its way to #34 on Billboard's Pop Album, becoming certified Gold by December of that year. Capturing the raw energy that Detroit fans were already aware of, the album put the Ann Arbor native son on the musical map. The song "Turn the Page" became a staple on FM stations nation-wide.
Rush - Exit Stage Left
Yes man thats in my top 3 best live albums of all time, Oh my god YYZ in exit stage left is killlller
This is The Spirit of the Radio (queue amazing guitar lead -in)
BeastOfTraal .... Definitely one of the best. Performed to perfection.
My favorite live album, and Pink Floyd Pulse as well should be here. Not even an honorable mention?
Also, Johnny Cash is not rock, even if he is a "rock star" as they said. Good or not has no place on this particular list.
All the world's a stage. That's what I think of when it comes to live Rush. I'm just old.
Deep Purple - Made in Japan not in the top 10??? I was expecting it to be at no.1...
+Codex7777…Nr. 2
Just because something is your own personal favorite doesn’t mean that it’s the greatest. Good album, though.
I agree, clearly this is Deep Purples best work and it should have made the Top 10...if not the best.
It was recorded over three nights so maybe that had something to do with it
I agree , one of the best live albums ever made .
UFO - Strangers in The Night, is one best of the live albums of the 70s.
Yessongs is one of the best live Prog Rock albums. Someone else mentioned Space Ritual by Hawkwind, which is the definitive Space Rock/Stoner Rock album by which all others should be judged. Pink Floyd, Live at Pompeii (half of the album was live) is good.
I could make a whole list of underrated and honorable mention live albums.
Space Ritual is perhaps the greatest live recording ever but is quite different than other great hard rock or prog rock live albums. Where most of the albums on this list are just a collection of songs recorded live, Space Ritual is an artistically conceived document. The way the songs are sequenced and flow into each other is better than most studio albums. It was conceived as an opera and an opera, it stands up as. Like The Wall, Tommy or the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
@@sex6cult9revolution Most of my friends in Southern California had never heard of Hawkwind until they came to our house and we listened to my brothers Hawkwind collection. He discovered them by chance when he saw their debut album cover with it's snake like creatures, made of leaves with human arms. My brother liked the album cover, he bought the album. In about five years, he collected their first five albums and Space Ritual. Without a doubt, Space Ritual and Warrior On The Edge Of Time were by far the most requested Hawkwind albums in my brother's small collection.
Also Elton John's Here and there. Proving that Elton John was really great
At Fillmore East being #10 was the moment I realized I was in for a rocky road
Edit: The list actually isn’t that bad just weird that Allman Brothers are so low, that album is by many considered one of the top 50-100 greatest albums of all time
Jimi Hendrix A Band Of Gypsy's is a great album
Yeah not my favourite Hendrix album but it's still Hendrix
Absolutely!
Yep. Band of Gypsy's should definitely be here. I'd say it is top 5, but I also love "Hendrix In the West." The version of "Little Wing" from "In the West" is simply transcendent!
I love it too, but not for this list. Machine Gun might be his finest moment; tho. It is tremendous
Made in Japan should've been #1, but that's just me.
No, not just you: Me too!
It's not just you. I agree :)
I agree, Made in Japan should be #1. No one sang like Ian Gillan.
Not my favourite live album, but I am convinced that Made in Japan is the best live album of all time (so far). The playing is excellent, the musicianship is faultless, the songs are well chosen and tight and the recording and mixing is perfect. I feel Mojo has made a big mistake here as it claims these as the best live albums (not the favourite ones which is different).
I almost agreed with you, but then I suddenly realized that would of been a horrible mistake, it should be #2. #1 without argument is Waiting For Columbus, I won't even say the group's name, because if a person doesn't know it, then they aren't worth talking to.
Humble Pie’s Performance Rockin The Fillmore should be in there somewhere too.
Finally! Someone who knows! This is much better Frampton than his Live solo album.
@@laurala101 110% correct, anyone who listens to this album will change their minds regarding the best ever live album.
"I Don't Need No Doctor"!!
I don’t need no doctor was enough alone to warrant them on this list.
I’ve listened to the Humble Pie record many times over past 40 years...I still prefer Leeds. And think it deserves to rank higher on a list as well
where are Deep Purple-Made in Japan, Rush-exit stage left, UFO-strangers in the night, Scorpions-Tokyo Tapes, Thin Lizzy-Live and Dangerous?
MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
Lou Reed - Rock n Roll Animal
Grateful Dead - Live/Dead
Jackson Browne - Running on Empty
Queen - Rock Motreal
I'm a Dog kick out the Jams wasn’t a real live album. They dubbed live chatter and audience sounds in with studio recordings. It was a brilliant record tho, of course
Pink Floyd - Pulse? Best damn live album I've ever heard. Was there any band who had a better live act than Pink Floyd?
Agreed, sometimes i prefer it before their other albums.
GeneralGoatBang Same here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond is absolutely incredible on Pulse! Some of the best stuff I've ever heard. Far better than the studio version, which in itself is a beautiful piece of music.
ZeppelinBigFan Pink Floyd's is there anybody out there the wall live 1980-81 is a good live album to ;)
agreed floyd should have ben there
I think Pulse didn't make the cut because it was just as much as a Video release as it was a CD release.
Yessongs by Yes,,,,triple live is by a light year the best live recording. The talent of this band to reproduce their studio masterpieces is truly god like...nothing may EVER touch Yessongs as a live album
Some people don't wanna hear just the studio versions live tho
Yeah that's a contender.
I agree from a portuguese YES fun....
Please i want to write .....portuguese fan ....
I’m with Callum - I don’t want to hear a band get up in stage and perfectly reproduce the studio versions of songs live. I want to hear improvisation, interplay and musicians taking chances. That part of what makes The Allman’s Fillmore and Purple’s Japan great
Kiss Alive...the first live album I ever purchased....and it blew my young teenage mind! Then came Yes: Yessongs, Zeppeling:The Song Remains The Same, Genesis: Seconds Out, Rush: All The World's A Stage, ELP: Welcome Back My Friends, Frampton Comes Alive, Cheap Trick Live @ Budokan, Aerosmith: Live Bootleg, Ted Nugent: Live Gonzo, Deep Purple: Made in Japan, UFO: Strangers in the Night, Queen: Live Killers, Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East, Foghat: Live, AC/DC: If You Want Blood, etc... Back before MTV and the internet, unless you were lucky enough to see a band live in concert, these albums were the only way to get a taste of the power of live music on this level.
The first live rock album ANYBODY gave a fuck about.
Arriving Somewhere - Pocrupine Tree
Exit Stage Left - Rush
All the World's a Stage - Rush
Roundhouse Tapes - Opeth
Live in Budokan - Dream Theater
Tokyo Tapes - Scorpions
Santa Monica '72 - David Bowie
Yessongs - Yes
Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81 - Pink Floyd
Made In Japan only in HM?! In this live album, Deep Purple not only played perfectly their most known songs, they also went in total improvisation for more than 20 minutes sometimes, on almost every song! How could they only be in HM?
The sound from that show is unbelievable! For years I thought "Leeds" had to be an outdoor concert, because the sound was so expansive and seemed to come in waves. As it turned out, it was recorded in a cafeteria/auditorium! This is the sound of an amazing band at it's peak...!
I agree. It is miraculous that they were able to capture that sound with the technology they had in the sort of box the band was playing in for that show. Something magical going on there.
Bob Dylan and the Band “Before the Flood”. A brilliant album!
Deep Purple - Made in Japan
Yes - Yessongs
Rush - Exit...Stage Left
Genesis - Seconds Out
Like even an honorable mention for these guys would have been nice.
Yessongs then Deep Purple but I like the list
Wow, lacking Pulse by Pink Floyd and Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy. Two of the greatest live albums ever!
yupidoda Pulse isn’t even a real Floyd record. There was no reason to lay any attention to them once Waters left the band
@@monkeyballs512 is a closed minded fool!!
I'm 100% sure it won't be on this list but UFO's "Strangers in The Night" is one of my all time favorites.
I am not a fan of live albums at all. SITN being the lone exception. For any fan of 70's rock, this is a must own.
My good friend vinnie moore plays for ufo these days before ufo he played for alice cooper on his poison album he has a number of all instrumental albums out
Idk about kiss alive at number 8 kiss invented the live album before kiss alive live albums were un heard of and theres not a live album made that doesn't have some post production tinkering in some form or another
Excellent choice!
@dean clark, even though I love the album the only band member I could ever name was Michael Schenker...shame on me. 🥺
I’m disappointed that Deep Purple made in Japan, Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous,& Status Quo Live at the Apollo weren’t in the top ten
Thin Lizzy live and dangerous. One of the best live albums of the 70s.
Pink Floyd - Pulse? Queen - Live At Wembley?
and Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (1994)!
Or Queen Rock Montreal.
Always preferred Live Killers. Queen were better in the 70's, imo.
ELECTRIC FOLKLORE - THE ALARM, LIVE AND DANGEROUS - THIN LIZZY
"P.U.L.S.E." is in my opinion one of the worst live albums ever. Absolutely sterile.
I would say that Number 1 should be ‘Pulse’ by Pink Floyd with ‘Live After Death’ by Iron Maiden taking the number 2 slot. ‘Live Magic’ by Queen at number 3 followed by ‘Live & Dangerous’ by Thin Lizzy at 4 and finally ‘Rush in Rio’ by Rush at 5.
P.S. Not having Queen or Floyd on this list should be a criminal offence
Completly Agree with floyd, but queen are shit mate!:L
couldn't agree more!!!
Live Killers by Queen. I think that is what you meant.
Yes, definitely LIVE KILLERS by Queen, a much better track list than Live Magic. However, Live and Dangerous should've made this list, no doubt about it.
This would be my list:
#10 - At Fillmore East, Allman Brother's
#9 - Alive, Kiss
#8 - Live Rust, Neil Young
#7 - Live Bullet, Bob Seger
#6 - How the west was won, Led Zeppelin
#5 - Frampton Comes Alive, Peter Frampton
#4 - Under a blood red sky, U2
#3 - One More for the Road, Lynyrd Skynrd
#2 - Live at Leeds, The Who
#1 - Made in Japan, Deep Purple
Gary Evans I have no argument with your list. Not a big a Kiss fan, but pairing things down to just ten leaves lots of good stuff off.
Gary Evans Thin lizzy tho
“Live at Leeds” is definitely the best life rock album I’ve ever heard. But in contention for the number 1 spot should be “Band of Gypsies.” And “Yessongs” is absolutely top-5 live material.
Im from the southern part of the Philippines(Davao City). And these are my top 20 favorite bands/artists and their live albums of all time(not in order).
1. AC-DC-If you want blood(You've got it).
2. Led Zeppelin-The song remains the same.
3.Alice Cooper-The Alice Cooper Show.
4.Neil Young-Live Rust
5.Eagles-Live
6.Thin Lizzy-Live and Dangerous
7.Eric Clapton-Just one night
8.The Rolling Stones-Still Life
9.Queen-Live killers
10.Scorpions-Tokyo Tapes & World Wide live
11.Rush-All the world's a stage&Exit...stage left
12.Little River Band-Backstage Pass
13. Peter Frampton-Frampton Comes Alive
14.CSNY-Fourway Street
15.Kiss-Alive 1 & II
16.Deep Purple-Made in Japan
17.Uriah Heep-Live '73
18.Supertramp-Paris
19.Jeff Beck with Jan Hammer Group-Live
20.Jackson Browne-Running on Empty
Actually, I have more than 2oo rock live albums on my collection.
My friend you have very good taste.
if you want blood is clean sounds great good call....
OF COURSE ACDC LIVE ...SO MANY GREEAT ALBUMS TO CHOOSE FROM
except to not have Yessongs as # 1 is well RETARDED..IT isn't even on your list !! listen to the best and get back to us
Go Pinoy! Not many better live albums than Tokyo Tapes (Scorpions)
where the hell is queen live killiers
or live magic? ???I am disappointed at you mojo
Wait your turn fools....😝
Love Queen but they never produced a great live album imo
or Wembley '86
@@33NOL they do, I think this list is just more towards the iconic/popular ones, as always from watchmojo. Live Killers and Queen Rock Montreal (1981) are great and underrated live albums.
I've listened to How The West Was Won completely through probably 20x by now. So hard to believe it's just a 4 piece band. What they could do with just the 4 of them is something of magic.
I guess Rush must really amaze you. The just have 3 guys.
Technically Zeppelin was a three piece band. And Rush should been included on this list along with UFO.
Check out their BBC Sessions. It is even better
Only of my personal favourites is UFO - Strangers In The Night.
Missing is:
Pink Floyd - Pulse
AC/DC - Live
Dave Matthews Band - Live At Red Rocks
Metallica - S&M
Alice In Chains - Unplugged
you nailed it right there
S&M is pretty mediocre honestly. The orchestra is good but the band sounds eh.
Judas Priest, Unleashed in the East
Thin Lizzy, Live and Dangerous
Robert MacIntosh exactly, the orchestra is why that album is so amazing.
AC/DC live will always be my favorite
I'm pretty surprised that Rush's All The World's A Stage and Ion maiden's Life After Death were not even honorable mentions. other ten that, I'd say it was good list.
Oh, trust me, some of us fought tooth and nail for Iron Maiden. But, the data didn't support it, so we went with the more objective picks. Scream for me Long Beach!
Signed
A pissed off Mr X ;)
p.s. We did decide to do a metal one down the road, if this one was well received.
WatchMojo.com Iron Maiden should be #1 all the time.
only men like Rush.....
I know of a lot of female Rush fans. If you watch their live videos, you will see that their fans consist of both men and women.
+WatchMojo.com maybe rock in rio from iron maiden, any live album from maiden is better than a lot of your List
Here a list of REAL Epic Live Rock Albums:
-Made in Japan. Deep Purple

TheWatcherofsky what about wings over America?
I agree totally! You have good track over the situation.
Yes
ELP
TYA
!!!!!!!!
Another one Real Epic Live Rock Album: Performance Rockin' The Fillmore by Humble Pie.
Not the real list as you omitted the best ever Live at Leeds. Foghat? Really? Hit the bricks.
Johnny Macalvee Live At Leeds, The Who?, i agree!
I used to take "Live at Leeds" with me whenever I was buying new speakers or stereo equipment. If it could handle that without distortion I knew I had a keeper.
made in japan should've made the list, so much better than all the albums listed
genesis- seconds out? the yessongs album live 1973? your lack of prog rock disappoints me mojo
1: Judas Priest- unleashed in the east
2: ufo- strangers in the night
3: thin lizzy- live and dangerous
4: KISS- Alive!
5: cheap trick- live at budokan
6: Motörhead- no sleep till hammersmith
7: deep purple- made in Japan
8: rush- exit stage left
9: AC/DC- if you want blood you got it
10: iron maiden- live after death
finally the who is at one. they deserve it. live at leeds is incredible
HUMBLE PIE "PERFORMANCE ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" 1971
Killer album.
Should be number 1 by a country mile. Anyone claiming whatever to be the number 1, simply can't have listened to Rockin The Fillmore.
SteveTheFazeman totally agree such a great live album framptons on fire great tone
I totally agree, absolutely!!!
Led Zeppelins "How the West Was Won" is one of, if not, the greatest live albums of all time! 👍👍👍
I love HTWWW. But, it being a collection of recordings from different shows puts it in a lesser catagory from records like Live At Leeds
Fantastic! You nailed 'number one' perfectly with The Who....... 'LIVE AT LEEDS'
Excuse Me But What about Thin Lizxy's Live & Dangerous Or UFO's Strangers In The Night
Dibbo 92 Totally agree Dib!!!
I'm very surprised Grateful Dead's "Live/Dead" wasn't on this list. That is considered by many to be one of the greatest albums of all time.
Exactly! That's what immediately came to my mind when I saw the title of this video....I think that that exclusion speaks to the inaccuracy of this list. Even rock critic, Robert Chistgau's has celebrated Live/Dead!
Clearly, (to refer to the Avatar I use here on youtube) I'm a Grateful Dead fan - but aside from them being one of my favourites, it was my understanding that the fact that Live/Dead is one of the greatest live musical efforts by any band ever, it's hard to imagine why they'd omit that one. Either ignorance of its existence or simply ignorance in regard to improvised instrumental rock in general.
This is a decent list, but metal is completely overlooked. Here's some of the albums I'd include:
Scorpions--World Wide Live
Rush--Rush in Rio
Iron Maiden--Live After Death
Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads--Tribute
Judas Priest--Unleashed in the East
I'd also include Queen--Live Killers, Bob Seger--Nine Tonight, Peter Gabriel--Plays Live and Slayer--Decade of Aggression
"Tribute" was wonderfully vicious -- Randy Rhoads was tastefully FEROCIOUS on guitar! Such an innovator, and a tremendous loss when he died.
UFO strangers in the night
You guys blew it......Deep Purple "Made in Japan" should be #1
One of my favorites [not mentioned here] is Little Feats "Waiting For Columbus"
"Space Ritual" by Hawkwind
No way an american mag is ever going to put Hawkwind on any list, even though Time we left and lord of Light are 2 of the best bass driven songs ever. Would be in my top 10 along with Strangers in the night/UFO, Exit Stage Left/Rush, Made In Japan/Deep Purple,Yessongs/Yes,Live/Genesis,Welcome back my friends/ELP,Somewhere in England/ Dumpy's Rusty Nuts( I know , but I was at the recording).
Mojo is from England, not America...and no magazine from England is gonna cite Hawkind either - lol
10. Alive! by Kiss
9. Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton
8. Live In Budokan by Cheap Trick
7. Made In Japan by Deep Purple
6. Live At Leeds by The Who
5. Band of Gypsys by Jimi Hendrix
4. Kick Out The Jams by MC5
3. Live from Reading by Nirvana
2. Live and Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
1. At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
HB: No Sleep Till Hammersmith by Motorhead, At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash, Pulse by Pink Floyd, Rock of Ages by The Band, Live 1974 by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out! by The Rolling Stones, Live at Shea Stadium by Billy Joel, Live Evil by Black Sabbath, Live/Dead by The Grateful Dead, Live At Max's Kansas City by The Velvet Underground
Fillmore east is fucking awesome! You don't love me is a masterpiece
Nice to see Nirvanas Live at Reading on ur list.
I was NOT a huge Deep Purple fan until I heard Made in Japan. Awesome. Still, Live at Leeds is #1 in my ear and my heart. Peace.
Ummmm, NO. Your list is way off. "Live At Leeds" is definitely number 1. I usually don't like these on-line lists but this one finally got something right by putting The Who at the Top. The Greatest Live Band ever, without question. Also possibly the greatest band period. "Live at Leeds" is The Who at their best.
I prefer Kiss Alive II
Not in any particular order.
Rush - Exit Stage Left
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Lou Reed - Rock N Roll Animal
Yes - Yessongs
BÖC - Some Enchanted Evening
Rush - A Show of Hands
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive! (I don’t like Frampton but can’t deny how big it was)
ELP - Welcome Back My Friends....
Eagles - Eagles Live
Deep Purple - Made in Japan.
You must be Kidding.... DP 'made in Japan' is the greatest live recording.....
Live at Leeds was released in complete 3 vinyl set. Just spun Tommy, with Amazing Journey/Sparks! Incredible concert, there's a reason it's number 1, they got this one right!
Queen - Live Killers anyone, i would have had it at number one, my god how did they miss that
John R Calm down The Who absolutely beats them live
@@maxtorres874 Uhh, no they don't, Pete is not near Brian neither is Roger Daltrey to Freddie, sorry, I"d might give them Kieth Moon, but they're are definitely not better live
Yes. I find this comment. Live Killer forever. Freddie forever! 1978-1979 forever)!
@@maxtorres874 what are you on?
It’s really not about any musician in one band being better than those in another band. It’s about the performance as a whole. Whether or not Brian is better than Pete or Roger better than Freddie is irrelevant
Just another that seemed to get overlooked, Uriah Heep live.
Bob Dylan & The Band Live In Manchester 1966 (with The famous “Judas”)
My favourite would be Made in Japan because.. Made in Japan! Great songst, great Band, everything awesome. Queen´s "Live Magic" is my 2nd place.
Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous should be up there.
I'd choose Live at the Rainbow or Live Killers by Queen but we agree on the band.
Live Magic isn’t near as good as Rock Montreal
Queen - Live Magic - Live at Wembley, 1986.
Without a doubt Live At Leeds has always been my favorite live album.
Genesis - Seconds Out, Queen - Live Killers, Rush - Exit Stage Left
WATCHMOJO- THANKS SO MUCH FOR PUTTING The Who Live at Leeds at No. 1
Thanks!!
Yes, live at leeds! A little surprised that Made in Japan was only an honorable mention. Deep Purple are probably the best live band ever.
I'm a normal human
Saw Zeppelin automatically *CLICKED*
ks7a SAME
Me To Brother
Frank Zappa ~ Roxy & Elsewhere, Zappa in New York, The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life ~ 3 different incarnations of his band fabulous in different ways
Made in Japan by Deep Purple blows away all the albums in the list... truly a shame that the best live record is so underrated by American rock media...
WatchMojo is Canadian.
Aleksa Abramović all but live at leeds
Live at Leeds is better
Made in Japan is my favorite live album tied with At Fillmore East
Aleksa Abramović true
The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East should of been higher than Kiss and Nirvana.
Should have...
should have been higher...
Agreed
Higher than Kiss for sure. Nirvana is a tougher call. Both are perfect performances by very different bands
No. No, it shouldn't have. Kiss and Nirvana lacked Duane's virtuosity (actually, Ace doesn't take a backseat to many guitarists), but both Kiss and Nirvana understood that rock and roll doesn't need bloated, masturbatory, 20 minute versions of songs that bore the audience to sleep.
What about pulse and MADE IN JAPAN ( deep purple ) SHOULD HAVE BEEN NUMBER 1
PULSE was made and produced for DVD thus excluding it from this list. But I totally agree where you are coming from. As for everyone screaming about Made In Japan, I agree but which of these ten are you going to swap it for. Frampton should have been in the top 3.
Pulse is from the iffy '90s period.
@@kevinindublin the 90's were iffy but Pulse wasn't ! And ya, I'm probably the millionth commenter asking : where the fuck is Made In Japan ? Lol
@@greypossum1 Nirvana out ! DP in !
This needs to have UFO - Strangers in the Night on it, and another honorable mention, Pat Travers - Go For What You Know
S&M by Metallica and the San Francisco symphony orchestra not on this list or even hon. mention?!
Yep, another one I would've personally liked to include... but again, when you look at the possibilities, there are a lot of more critically acclaimed, respected and influential live records. That one would be top 25. We did decide to do a metal one down the road, if this one was well received.
Signed
Mr X.
WatchMojo.com S&M being the first Orchestra and Band live performance wasnt included but Cheap Trick was?
are you sure that CT wasnt a top 25 pick that got mixed up with S&M or Iron Maiden?
*****
im sorry i didnt use wikipedia to back my facts up. there are the second to do so.. but even Deep Purple isnt on the list, so the point still stands
Cannedabyss Seattle > Cunning Stunts
And live shit in New Mexico?
I thought that Pink Floyd's "Pulse" album would've been a great addition to the list
At Folsom Prison - the greatest live album of all time!
Real happy that one is on the list.
It really is
Did not belong as far as I'm concerned. The man in black was way over rated. Famous for sounding awful. The world only needed one Hank Williams.
@@raggedyshacksixpack9899 This has to be the worst thing I've ever read on the internet. And you wouldn't like to hear what I have to say about Hank Williams.
Always been at the top of my list. The sound was so expansive that for years I thought it was an outdoor show, and was astonished when I read that the concert was in the Refectory-essential the cafeteria-of Leeds University! Simply an amazing document of a band at the peak of their powers...
Obviously you have never heard Waiting for Columbus by
Little Feet.
Mark Wallerich Love that album, but I didn’t expect it to show up on this list. Just because I like something doesn’t make it the greatest.
Agree, Columbus does deserve at least honorable mention. Being one of the only (two?) albums not messed with in post production makes it deserving for that alone. The other definitely not messed with is Live At Leeds
Cire Nosnor I’m just glad the Eagles are only honorably mentioned. They being the owner of the biggest selling album ever doesn’t mean you give a show start to finish memorable. Instead as David Crosby says” they take 0 chances and make the show sound note for note like the record and really he is right. I could stay at home and play their albums if that’s the case. Some people like that and I’m not knocking their professionalism just that it’s cookie cutter boring. Joe Walsh gave them a bit of the unexpected and harder edge but didn’t like him moving around so much so they stapled his chord so he couldn’t move more then a few feet in any direction. ( yawn ) a live show is subjective to your taste and I would argue little Feet is sorely missed on this list too but again if your not into that kind of rock you won’t see the argument for them. Ive never seen Springsteen but at 52,I should have and never heard anyone leaving his shows let down but there has to be a show from around 78 from him that could be on here too.
''Why do you need new bands?, everyone knows rock attained Perfection in 1974'' Homer Simpson
All the 70s. But i must say Nirvana blew me away.
The competent bass playing of Mel Shocker! ☺
@@PeterKKraus - I found Mel's bass playing to be bong-shattering...
Saturday Moon 😂 Just bloody great!!
I worked construction w / a guy, one day I was grumbling about the pathetic offerings on local FM radio.he told me " there's only so much music out there dude "
WRONG
3 of the biggest LIVE bands of all time can't even get an honorable mention, this list is munted
1 AC/DC.... if you want blood or live at river plate
2 QUEEN
3 PINK FLOYD
Made in Japan - Deep Purple.
Uriah Heep live - Uriah Heep.
Strangers in the night, UFO.
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. Ladies and gentleman, Emerson Lake & Palmer.
david bentley Emerson lake and Palmer still own the greatest live album of all time
How is Made In Japan only an honourable mention?
Idk maybe watchmojo doesn't like Deep Purple, for some reason
Called out "Live at Leeds" before watching
At least I agree with the first one. Live at Leeds is really impressive.
Two great live albums; FM Live, Climax Blues Band and Mott the Hoople Live.
