  • Step by Step dropping the fuel tank on my Land Rover LR3 (Discovery 3). Useful information for changing out your fuel pump, or either of your two fuel sending units if your gas gauge went out.
    If you're like me and the wiring was eaten by rodents, you'll see how I made a new plug!
    Procedure is probably the same for LR4, but if someone could let me know in the comments I'd appreciate it!

      You shouldn’t need any special tools for this pump replacement.

    If you are on tarmac be aware gasoline melts it.

    Thanks Clay for this video. I'm facing the same job on my 2005 D3 (LR3) but I don't think it's rodents because the fuel gauge always works at the start of every drive and after a few minutes drops to zero/empty. And then sometimes comes back up to normal at random time intervals. Any more info you can provide regarding disconnecting and reconnecting the front sender, the slide rail thing you mention in the video?

      The front sender is pretty straight forward. Once I did mine, it wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as I was expecting. Although it’s for sure awkward getting your arm shoulder deep inside the tank! Just pay attention to the orientation of the part, angles, and the wire routing path you took on removal to duplicate when you install the new one.

    I have a question. Can you remove the fuel pump from the inside of the vehicle or do you have to remove the tank?

    • @clayhughes3263
      @clayhughes3263  Před 3 lety

      Not really. It’s theoretically possible, but you’d have to remove the back seats, remove the carpet and sound insulation, then cut a large hole in the floor, while not accidentally cutting wiring, or cutting into or melting the plastic fuel tank. Then patch the hole back. So... no. Lol

    Hi bro sorry how you take out this big clamp hold the pump???

    • @clayhughes3263
      @clayhughes3263  Před 3 lety +2

      After the hose clamp part, it’s just a big plastic split ring. If it’s stuck too tightly it might just need some “persuasion” lol

    Is the near and front sending units the same part?

      No, they are different part numbers.
