    Fast-playing rules - designed to play within one and a half hours - with an emphasis on fun and the flavor of the period. Players spend ecus (money points) to build armies from one of eleven army lists (France, Italy, Eastern/Lithuanian, Low Countries/Swiss, Scots/Irish, Teutonic/Polish, Burgundy, Spain, and three types of English). Stands/units form groups, which in turn form Battles, of which armies consist. In addition, each side receives a ration of Characters (kings, marshals, allied lords, imposters, captains, bowmasters, and religious personalities), each of which have special powers or can carry unique items (such as holy relics or standards). The rules describe four conditions which cause the battle to end, at which time victory points are scored for possessing the terrain objective, losing troops, and taking prisoners. Optional rules cover omens and portents, randomized ransom points, unreliable characters, and independent commands. Ruleset includes a brief guide to medieval miniatures and heraldry.

    Great job Nick! I learned a few things about the game I wrote from you, lol. A point about bases. We did the 2-15mm bases based on DBA/DBM, so players could use their existing figures. Two heavy infantry to make a MAA1/pike stand. A Cavalry unit could really be the same. I use bluetak on my DBA figures in order to attach them to 40x40 bases, but as comments below not totally necessary. Just make sure the follow ups and pushback are per the 15mm rules. For 25mm+ we use 60x60. This was based on the then current GW games which had 60mm for three figures. Actually, to make it the same as the 15mm games, it should be 80x80 (But that takes a much bigger table). BTW, 2-6mm figures on an 80x80 base looks awesome!!

      Mine as well at least for my smaller minis. I have not tried them yet with my 28's but i believe they will work well. Thank you for watching Dear Cory!

    Thanks for that. Looks interesting.
    The one real question I have is in terms of scale.
    Not figure scale, but in terms of numbers of figures. How many models to a unit, or to a battle or an army? I got the idea that these rules are to represent reasonably large encounters, but what models would I need to do that?

      Thank you Nick glad you enjoyed the review. If you stop freeze the video in the picture parts you will see very clearly how the Author bases his armies (3 minis for mounted - 8 minis for Heavy infantry and 4 for missile troops I think 3 also for Skirmishers.) he uses I think 40x40 bases but it really does not matter you can use any number depending on the base size you like just try to portrait the types of troops accordingly so you can spot the difference and they look ''Historically accurate'' . Heavy infantry more close order in more dense formations missile troops more open order looking etc. I played the rules also using my DBX basing of 4 for Heavy Troops 3 for missiles and 2 mounted worked fine!

      It's an element based game, so the number of miniatures does't really matter. The recomended basing is 40mm or 60mm square, although frontage tends to be more important than depth.
      You can have a single 54mm figure on a base or 18 6mm figures and it wouldn't matter as long as the base frontage is the same.
      Personally the smaler scales seem more impresdive.

    Quick question. I own the DoK 2nd Ed. and am confused with what the difference between a Marshal and an Allied Lord is. Does a marshal have the ability to control a “battle”? If he is, does he have a unit limit like an allied lord?

    • @MedievalWargamer
      @MedievalWargamer  Před rokem +1

      Hi Nicholas! The Marshal can command whole divisions regardless of their Size the allied Lord can control if I am not mistaken (I don’t have the rules with me now) up to 6 units. But I will check the rules again when I go home and get back to you. Thank you for watching my friend!

      Marshals (+0 CF, +1 RF, 60ecus) are the magnates of the country. Marshals may buy one or two retinue units, one captain, and lead and influence any
      group/Battle in the King/General’s command Allied Lords (+0 CF, +1 RF, 40ecus) are important leaders in their own
      right, may buy one retinue unit, one captain, and may lead a group of up to 6
      units. The Allied Lord and his units are considered a separate command (of 3-6
      units) from the King/General or any other Allied Lord or Mercenary Captain.
