This is the best explanation of a pin stitch that I've come across. I've tried them before with no success. Now I know to go through the thread which should make a real difference in the stitch remaining in place. Thank you so much for the demonstration on the pin stitch and the comparison of thread for over one.

Thanks for the info on the pin stitch. I've not seen it before. I find my over-1 stitches look better when the thread follows the direction of the top thread on the back. Lower left to top right over a vertical thread > lower right to top left for the top stitch. Lower left to top right over a horizontal thread - then top left to lower right to complete the stitch.

Thank you for this video. So helpful. I was surprised how easy the pin stitch is. I am new to cross stitch after a hiatus of 20+ years. I am about to start Florence Dickerson. My first HATS pattern. They are all so beautiful. I am always flummoxed by trying to decide the most efficient “road” for stitches, to avoid too many starts and stops and avoid traveling. Maybe you could demonstrate how you decide what order you make stitches in different motifs, letters, borders, etc Thank you so much for all the wonderful videos

Here’s the rub: Thanks to your tutorial some time ago and this most recent one, I’ve been able to use and get good at the pin stitch to start a thread. I’ve heard that this stitch can be used to end a thread as well, as in the case of a solitary X randomly placed. But I don’t get that one. I don’t think I do it right.

Your tip to split the floss is just what I need to be successful with this stitch. I especially like the pin stitch that you worked on the diagonal, where the pin stitch forms the first (bottom) let of the crossed stitch. These tips that you presented in this video are all great; what a treat to wake up to on a Monday morning! 🙂👍
