  • At the end of October we stayed in a tiny off grid cabin tucked away beneath beech trees in the Chilterns. I was asked to stay at the cabin to take photos and videos for the company, which was an exciting experience! To be clear, I wasn't asked to make this video for youtube but I thought it was a beautiful landscape and woodland to share, especially in Autumn!
If you are interested in the cabins this one is Monty and the company is Unplugged :)

Hi I'm Brook and this is my slow life outdoors ~ camper van | walking | nature | camping | eco living | the wild
I'm often accompanied by Brochan (my partner) and Floss (our dog)
I love to be outdoors whenever possible, from hiking in vast mountains to spending time amongst plants in my garden . I made this channel because I just love creating videos and wanted to share them with you. It's not so much about the highest mountain or getting the best view but about just enjoying the journey along the way and noticing small wonders in the wild 🌿

Oh Brook, this is my hometown! It is so funny that I have watched your videos of Wales and my heart has sang for it, it felt like a home I didn't belong to, but a home no less. You saying that same sentiment for my true hometown made me feel quite content, that someone who isn't from here could find such a sense of peace in the same woodlands I have sat in, the same hills I have climbed.
The woodlands are amazing round here, aren't they? If you ever come back down and want a tour guide of the best local places, please don't hesitate to pop me a message. There is a secret wild swim spot I'd be more than happy to take you to and if you can convince Brochan, we can even go for a pony trek ;)
For anyone staying in this place, skip Gail's bakery and pop to either Fred and Ginger for a good coffee or Simmons for a good sausage roll (veggie or meaty). If you enjoy large houses, go to see Ashridge Estate, though around every corner there is some huge stately home or another. And finally, please pleaseeee park at the Monument and walk up through the woodlands to Ivinghoe Beacon. The Kites swoop around your head and the view is beautiful, and there's even a pub not far down the road to finish off the day nicely. Glad you had a nice time, Brook x

Hello and sorry it's taken me so long to respond! That is funny that you feel like Wales is your home and I feel like that about your hometown :) Yes I do find the Chilterns and especially Beech woodlands to be so peaceful, I wish we had more over in the west :)
Thank you for offering to guide us, it would be lovely if we're back over there!
I totally agree with skipping Gail's too! They seem very overrated...
      🤍 😊🌸🌞

Thanks for sharing your peaceful stay in that lovely cabin. If you are ever in London take a walk in Epping Forest, where there are lots of ancient beech trees. The Loughton camp area of the forest really feels like being in a cathedral of trees.

I’m glad you liked it 😊✨ that sounds lovely, I’ve never visited Epping Forest but when I’m next in the east I’ll definitely visit! 🍂🌞

Stunning! 🍁🍂 Beautiful cinematography, complementing a beautiful landscape 😊
Lovely simple cabin with wonderful views 😊
I'm a Downsman too, Brook, (Chilterns & South Downs) and share your love of beech trees. Too me, they are the tree of England. Improbably huge spans, and when a limb falls, taking a socket with it, they just carry on growing. I guess that my view has been coloured by seeing too many deformed oaks, having to fight for light.
It's always been prosperous country, with it's proximity to London.
Hopefully the beech trees will simply move north to counter the effects of climate change ?

Thank you! Glad you liked it 😊 I could definitely live in a simple tiny cabin like this one, you don’t need much more 😁✨
It is such a beautiful part of the country. So different to the places I usually love but there’s something about the rolling land that’s wonderful isn’t there 😊
Yes I hope they do move north! 🍂🍁🌞
