  • J.F. Germain & Son "Royal Jersey Cavendish & Virginia" is (as the name would suggest) a Cavendish/Virginia blend pipe tobacco made in a style that hearkens back to the turn of the last century. How does this old school pipe tobacco taste? Stuff&Things has the full review.
    From www.jfgermain.co.je - "This tobacco contains the same ingredients as the Royal Jersey Original Latakia Mixture, the recipe being faithfully followed but without the Latakia, revealing a tobacco with a quite different character."

    You hit the nail on the head. I like this blend as a 'chuck it in the pipe, go for a walk ' smoke. I think perhaps as lovers of pipe smoking we have a tendency to over analyse. I enjoy this from time to time as a traditional subtle - classic - mixture.

    Excellent review as always! You sir, are the "Nutnfancy" of pipe tobacco reviews, save for his innumerable attention deficit fueled digressions. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for your latest review. From time to time I really enjoy Germain's old fashioned pipe tobaccos like Plum Clake or Uncle Tom's. Haven't tried this one yet, but I'm looking forwabrd to it. My favourite blend, however, is Special Latakia Flake.

    Greetings from Finland! Just started watching your channel recently. The tobacco and others reviews are very well put together. They're informative yet entertaining, I've been enjoying them a lot. I also appreciate the thought you put in the production values of your videos.
    I also have a request: I'd like to hear your thoughts on Peterson Irish Oak. Keep up the good work and all the best for the forthcoming year!

    I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. It's good but doesn't knock the socks off, subtle and different. Too bad it's biting you, luckily I didn't have that problem. Cheers.

    Love these different reviews. I just ordered a tin of Davidoff Royalty to go along with my new Roma 9mm Billiard straight pipe. Royalty is supposed to go pretty light on the Latakia. Hopefully I enjoy it more than Dunhill's Standard Mixture. I thought it was too strong on the Latakia.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  Před 8 lety

      +Nathan Kendall - Dunhill Standard is pretty perfect in Latakia content for me, but we all have different tastes. I hope you enjoy the Davidoff!

    I tried some earlier this year a little too bitey for me but i did change the pipe and used a larger bowl and was much more enjoyable, Great Review honest opinion appreciated Bradley :)

    I have heard that bite is an issue for a number of the Germain tobaccos. Nice review and SHOCKINGLY one I will not put in my basket at my etailer.

    As always, love the videos. Quick question, which tobacco do you think has the best "room note"?

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  Před 8 lety +1

      +Russ Hammond - That's really hard to say. As a pipe smoker, I find most blends quite pleasant. Non-smokers would probably prefer heavily flavored aromatics though, and I never really smoke those.

  • @mfghammell
    @mfghammell Před 8 lety +1

    In my eyes as far as Germains goes, their flakes I love except their medium flake and everything else I can live without.
    Plum Pudding is a exception, but it goes each way depending on the tin. Some are good and others are awful.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  Před 8 lety

      +Simon C - I haven't been able to get my hands on any of their flakes yet, but I am definitely interested in trying their Brown Flake in particular.

    • @cornfieldcraig
      @cornfieldcraig Před 5 lety

      Perhaps you meant Plum Cake Mixture. Plum Pudding is a Seattle Pipe Club blend. Special Latakia Flake is, indeed, special. I like Medium Flake. It reminds me of a flake version of Esoterica Brighton.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

      +Stuff&Things been smoking the english blend (nightcap) and it is really growing on me, such an interesting aftertaste for the hour after i smoke, like old books and leather. I know its a terrible request but could you review some standard Captain Black, i know, but i'd be interested in your take on it.

      +Thomas Justino - It's just a cheap metal tray from a local antique store. You may be able to find something similar in a store where you live.
