She was 8 years older than me. I had such a crush on her when I was a teenage boy. I Loved her, she was only 22 at Woodstock. I grew up in a great time for music! I Loved "Candles in the Rain." I have been singing as long as I can remember. My father died from alcoholism at age 50 in 1970. I was 14, my mother bought me an Ideal, Made in Japan ES335 knockoff. I learned how to play by ear and feel. When I was 18, I was in a band. I have been playing guitar, bass and singing for 50 years mostly in New England. It breaks my heart to see my heroes and musicians like Melanie, Tony Bennett, Harry Belafonte, the great Jeff Beck, Burt Bacharach, Tina Turner...and now Melanie. She was beautiful inside and out. We carry on in sadness, yet know that these artists will live in our hearts. Rest in Peace Melanie, you are one of the "Beautiful People."

I remember watching this concert on TV I was 15 yrs old. I never was a fan of Sha Na Na but was thrilled to see my girl Melanie singing. Sure wish we could go back in time to when music was good and Melanie was drop dead gorgeous! Out of all the female singers in the 60's/70's Melanie stood out in both talent and looks. i had so many posters of Melanie in my room. In 1976 I added a Farah Fawcet poster (on the back of my door) but other than that it was all Melanie on my walls. Love love love you Melanie.

The one thing that this rendition is missing is the percussion instrument that sounded like a large board being struck and was a distinctive part of the original version of this song. By the way, did Melanie ever do Holiday music? Yes, weird to have Stevie Wonder singing at the end of a John Lennon greatest hits album. It was years later that I learnt it was him.
