I would like to thank you for posting this video. I recently purchased three of these projectors used on eBay. Two of them were defective (I knew this when I bought them at a significant discount compared to working ones), and one of them had this EXACT SAME ISSUE! I contacted Crystal at Time like you suggested, and they hooked me up with parts for both projectors. This knowledge saved me hundreds of dollars as well as feeding my desire to learn new things and DIY everything I possibly can. I can't thank you enough!

What a repair! Man the Projector of Han Solo! Burn everything with laser beams! Love your videos man, love your repairs, but most of all I really love the fact that you do not pretend to know everything, this says a lot for the person you really are! yeah I cant deal with reddit honestly. I had to pick a platform and while I like reddit and the guys there, it was too much. youtube and FB are about all I can handle.
Great video. thanks! I have a Sony VPL-FHZ60, which works flawlessly in the usual or upside down orientation, however when i pop it on either side (to flip from 1920 x 1080 to 1080 x 1920 for installs), it wont cycle passed standby. Instead a get one steady red power led, then a flashing warning light that flashes around 8 times, then pauses for a bit,, then repeats that cycle. When i received the projected it had a knock in transit and the side filter was knocked out of whack. I loosened the screws, re-set it and all seemed fine (didn't check side projection). Any advice or recommendations? I'm handy enough around electronics, opening bits up for visual inspections. Looking art your video, the first thing i thought of was those housing sensors might be playing up. Again, the projector runs perfect on usual or upside orientation. Thanks again!
@@FixitFrank hey Frank, thanks for that. I rehoused the lens while troubleshooting but it made no difference i’m afraid. It feels well locked / secured though. I wonder if the points where the lens and projector pcb meet need cleaned. Will have a look and clean with isopropyl. If you have any other tips, i’d happily take them. Thanks again!
The error points to the lens not being seen. I would check all the switches and latches around the lens and see if something isn't activating when the lens is installed. There s something to sense its install. That is likely where the issues is. The manual points to your error precisely as a lens problem.
@@FixitFrank ah, yes i see that in the manual now. I checked the flash count again and realised i miscounted (apologies), there’s actually 9 warning flashes which the manual doesn’t explain. Checked all lens and projector points / pins today and all seems perfect. The projector looks quite new and there’s only 1700 hours on the clock. I have a feeling it might be something else. It mentions the lens tilt needs to be reset before popping out the lens, however i cant do that via the onboard options and need the original remote (i have a generic replacement). Wondering if that’s causing an issue. Thanks for all your time, really appreciate it!

@@FixitFrank Thank you, much appreciated! Maybe you'd be interested in this and/or have some insight. I recently got a VPL-FHZ65, basically for free. Catch is the image looks like someone smashed it with a bat (if it were a physical screen). Like it actually looks like cracking glass and the laser beam kind of warps around the edges of the crack lines. Honestly it looks cool, but not what I'm after lol. I don't know projector internals too well, but I suspect an internal lens or the LCD prism has shattered, as when I project just R, G or B, the same "smashed" overlay is present. Can send you some pics/vids if you're interested in having a look :)

There's a very gooey morphing/"artifacting" happening around the edges where it's messed up and it's also doing this gooey image retention type thing. I don't know if there's anything else in the projector that would cause that kind of image distortions. I reckon I could repair it if I know what the problem is... It the figuring out what the problem is part that I'm not to confident with :P
Hi Frank. I just stumbled across your channel as I've recently purchased a Sony VPL-PHZ10 with a reported faulty power supply, though I'm aware there could be other issues present. The seller removed the power supply in question prior to the sale, so I need to source a new one. I've emailed Time Projector Lamp you mentioned, but was just wondering how the payment is handled if it's not through a site? Also you don't happen to know where I can find service manuals for this projector do you? Thanks in advance! This is my first projector repair attempt I'm doing (though I do dabble in repairing mirrorless cameras), so any info would be much appreciated!
They're great. they take paypal goods/services so you are protected. I'd check the laser source for shorts in the meantime. That would be the only other thing I can think of checking until you can source a PSU for it.

I just wanted to provide an update in case others are thinking of ordering from Time Projector Lamps. I purchased my projector from eBay, which stated it had the power supply taken out. This is the first time I've worked on a projector, and as I couldn't find any service manuals, I ordered a power supply based on the information on the listing. The engineer at Time flagged that I may also be missing the ballast, so they got in touch with me to check. Good thing they did as I was indeed missing that PCB. Once the parts had been extracted from the donor projector, it was dispatched very quickly and arrived at my door (UK) in 2 days. It was well packed and everything worked as it should. It's been a very pleasant / smooth transaction, and I would definitely use them again.
What a nasty awkward piece of work is this horrible Sony projector. Even the thought of opening something like this freaks me out. What's even more annoying is the parts availability and cost. Good to see it working. Good effort.
Thanks brother, that was an interesting job for sure. I want to get better with these laser units since its going to be the future. I wont complain if I never work on a FHZ60/65 again though.

Bro...I had heard about a viewsonic? or similar that was doing this in schools. But did not hear about Epson! I need to buy one of these and see what the deal is. I should be able to get my boss to agree to buy one. He wants to keep a few of the other brands in stock so we can swap them out with the schools(then replace the lamp in the office) but I know he will be interested that Epson is doing this. Once I know more, I will let you know. Also I shared your video to the FB group I am in. That is a very useful bit of info.

Hi, thats the lens warning. It cant sense the lens
motors. Reseat the lens first and probably check the lens locking tabs/Locks.

Btw, the lens is manual zoom and focus, just in case that makes a difference

An UHP-projector without access to the lamp is really a good one. 🥳
NEC tried it back in 2012. It didnt go over to well for them. Im curious to see how this goes.
