You only say that based on the twisted logic of Deedat who misapplied what Jesus said. The statements from Jesus about the "sign of Jonah" is found in two places in Matthew (12:39 and 16:4), so let's stay in that gospel and look at what the same Jesus also said about his coming crucifixion. In the same chapter as the second "sign of Jonah" statement it is said, "From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." (16:21). Then in Matthew's very next chapter-17:22-23-Jesus says, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” Jesus repeats this prediction in chapter 20, found in verses 17-19.
So, this Jesus, who Deedat somehow reasoned from his "sign of Jonah" statement to be proclaiming that he will never actually die but be alive when he goes into the grave, is the same Jesus who turned right around and told his disciples quite clearly that he would be killed when they went to Jerusalem? Jesus didn't say in these two passages that they would attempt to kill him, or that he would only seem to be killed, but he says he would "be killed" and that the ones to whom he would be delivered "will kill him." You would have to believe that either Jesus forgot that we was supposed to not die when he followed up his death predictions with his disciples or that he lied to either the Scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees or to his own disciples.
OR, you could reject Deedat's misleading reasoning.
Christian scholars do not have to throw away the case of Jonah from the Bible in order to believe the Crucifixion of Jesus. Instead, the Jonah story is quite useful in making parallels to the work of Jesus. One parallel is obviously the time in the fish for Jonah and the time in the heart of the earth for Jesus. Both were three days.
However, another is one that I'm sure Deedat would never think to tell you even if he ever thought about it himself, and that is the RESULT of both stories. In the story of Jonah, the enemy of the Jews-the Ninevites-Jonah and the Jews would witness Nineveh's salvation from judgement after Jonah came out of the great fish and they believed in his words (much to the consternation of Jonah). Similarly, in the story of Jesus' death and resurrection, the enemy of the Jews-the Gentiles, the Jews would witness the salvation of the Gentiles who would come to believe the words of Jesus. In fact, if you read carefully all of the context in the passage related to Jesus' "sign of Jonah" statement in Matthew 12:28-42, you would find Jesus explains the full meaning of this sign when he says, "The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here." (v. 41).
Yes, something greater than Jonah was found in Jesus. Jonah was very much imperfect. Jesus was perfect. Jonah was able by God's grace to give the words that would save Nineveh for a time. Jesus was able to give the sacrifice and words that can save anyone who would believe in him for all eternity.

Rather than vaguely saying that Deedat made it very clear-without details-you show me how my counter argument is wrong. What is faulty in my reasoning? Hey adamtestlove: If you really want to know about God and the Truth, the Holy Bible is the Truth. Deedat did quote some words from The Lord Jesus from The Holy Bible, but he did not quote when The Lord Jesus told his disciples that he must be betrayed, and delivered into the hands of sinful men - and put to death. Then rise again on the third day. Deedat mentioned that the Quran has a full chapter on Mary the mother of Jesus - and Deedat said it is the same Mary in the Holy Bible. Well, the Mary on the Quran is said to be sister to Aaron and daughter of Imram or Imlam which The Bible calls Amram. Amram was the father of Aaron, Moses, and Myriam (Mary). They were from the tribe of Levi. Mary's both parents were from the line of Judah, but her mother's father or mother was from Levi; therefore, a cousin to Elizabeth, whose both parents were from Levi. When Christ was born, it was about 2022 years ago - Moses, and Myriam and Aaron were about 1500 years before that. Deedat said about 1300 years, but that's not the issue here. Deedat was able to stomp some Christian scholars by asking, "Where did Jesus say, 'I am God'?" As Deedat said, he never is quoted as saying those words. Deedat also quoted the Messiah Jesus saying that he came not to destroy The Law and The Prophets, but to fulfil them. Deedat then dismissed the Apostle Paul and his writings. He is strongly correct in that the Apostle Paul was the main one spreading the Gospel of The Grace of God. Jesus first came for the Children of Israel - and Israel had to accept him as their king: they did not. The prophets foretold the rejection of their Messiah King by the leaders of Israel. The prophet Moses foretold Israel's rejection against God, but that Israel would come back - but the Church would be born first, then Israel would come back - this is in Deuteronomy 32 - - - there is very much I would like to share, but...

Did the Bible predict the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; “He trusts in the LORD, let Him deliver him; let Him rescue him, for He delights in him!” Yet you are He who took me from the womb; You made me trust you at my mother’s breasts. On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother’s womb you have been my God. Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help. Many bulls encompass me; strong bull of Bashan surround me; they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within by breast; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet-I can count all my bones-they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.
    -Ps 22:1-18
    Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For he grew up before Him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-every one-to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet is was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief;

    Did Jesus predict his death?
And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
    --Mark 8:31-33
They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
    --Mark 9:30-32
And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”
    --Mark 10:32-34
This is just some of the evidence from one of the four gospels that Jesus knew he was going to die. Whatever you think "the Sign of Jonah" means, it cannot mean that he wasn't about to die on the cross. Jesus died on the cross to remove our shame so that we can have our relationship with God restored. He rose from the grave on the third day as proof of his victory and power over death. His promise of our life in Jesus is available to all who believe in his death and resurrection and trust in him for our salvation!

@@cowboy4762 I'm wondering if you just opened up the Bible and it fell to Hebrews 5:7 and you immediately came to this conclusion which you passed on to me. Or did you actually come to this verse after reading the previous four chapters? If you did do it like most people and first read all of the previous letter that the author wrote before you get to chapter 5 verse 7 I'm wondering what you thought when you first came to chapter 2 of Hebrews when he wrote in verse 9, "But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone." And then this again in verse 14 of that same 2nd chapter, "Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil..."
Now when you come to chapter 5 verse 7 these previous verses must be taken into account. Your conclusion does not seem to consider that the writer of Hebrews had earlier said that Jesus was exalted because of his suffering of death, that he tasted death, and that he indeed went through death in order to destroy the one who has the power of death. Your conclusion also does not comport with the passages later in Hebrews where it is said that Jesus replaced the old sacrificial system (in which lambs and other animals died) by the offering of his body and the sacrifice of his blood instead. Hebrews 10:12 then says his body and blood was offered "for all time a single sacrifice for sins" and in 10:14 the author declares, "For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified."
So, it seems that the author of Hebrews is indeed saying that not only did Jesus die but that he did so as a perfect sacrifice for all time for our sins.
