Amazon Echo Studio: Is the Premium Alexa Speaker Worth the Cost?

  • If you think you'll get the most out of it, the Echo Studio offers exceptional value at $200. Its two biggest competitors, the Apple HomePod and Google Home Max, are more expensive and are generally not rated as highly. Provided you're happy using the Alexa assistant over Google Home or Siri, it's the Echo Studio is the more capable wireless speaker.

May I know the sound track you played on the studio. It sounds great.
I own a studio, but there is long standing issue, when it is connected to firetv 4K stick, the audio just drops intermittently.
And Amazon never tried to fix this. I hope the next update would justify. Fingers crossed.

My 2cents: I just received Echo 4th Gen and 2022 Echo Studio. I was shocked how good the 4th Gen (the big ball) sounds and totally underwhelmed by the Studio, which sounds very muffled at lower volumes and only comes alive at far higher volumes. Also, the 4th Gen Echo responded to all commands precisely and in noisy room while the Studio stumbled over and over and kept getting things wrong. The 4th gen cant match the Studio's base for sure, but it's SO MUCH more clear and low volumes and more pleasant to the ear, for me.
Returning the Studio and keeping the 4th gen until Amazon release a thoroughly updated next generation Studio.

I hate the Echo system. The app is a disappointment. I have a studio with two dots and trying to connect them all is a headache. You can’t connect them all together AND play Bluetooth from YOUR phone unless you use the app. I use Tidal, so linking the app to my account I can’t play MY playlist, I can only ask Alexa to play artist. If I had known that I couldn’t play MY music from my phones list on ALL 3 speakers at the same time. Did I mention that the app sucks??
If anyone can counter my experience, please do! If there is a way to play my list on all 3 at the same time.

My experience with the Echo Studio was disappointing when I tried to connect it to an audio system capable of Dolby Atmos. The audio levels were very low, and there were channel losses, significantly affecting the sound quality. I do not recommend using it with an audio system, as its performance is limited to functioning as an expensive speaker, forcing you to use only Amazon equipment to enjoy the Dolby Atmos experience. Additionally, there is little information about this aspect on the Amazon website, making it difficult to foresee these connectivity and integration limitations with third-party audio systems.

Amazon first tried to offer high fidelity by making a sub. Then they made the studio for an all in one. Two echos and a sub sound like a studio. Two studios and a sub is for bass fiends.
I Had two echos paired with my cube and it sounds so perfect for tv watching I am stunned. Even before the sub was paired, the sound is omni present like my 5.1. Ive just paired a sub to annoy the neighbours.

The Studio will never go on sale Lower then $180 by itself. That's what it cost for the Studio to be made. Sonos sued Amazon when Amazon was consistently dropping the sale price below cost. The best bet right now is to trade in a old Echo device for a White Echo Studio and you'll get 25% off which is $50 and depending on your device a gift card. That will only work on the White Echo studio because it's considered a "new Echo device" which it isn't.

MUO, thx for your review video. i have a long story that I will present in the shortest version about my experience with Echo. In late March 2022, using my 3rd gen Echo which i had for a year or more, suddenly malfunctioned. I had it paired to 3 BT Devices: an IOTA Stereo Preamp ; a Denon AVR Receiver ; and a pair of JBL Charge 3 BT speakers. I used them individually as the Mood struck me. One day, I was using the IOTA and suddenly from one day to the next, it didn't work. I saw it in the App , but it would not connect. When commanded to play Spotify, it said : Sorry, That Device is Off Line. After many calls and Chats with agents , trying every measure under the Sun ( I also called IOTA who tried tom help by checking for the proper Firmware, etc. No problem there), it was determined that my 3rd gen Echo was the problem. After weeks of this w/o resolution , Sent it back out of Warranty, purchased a new 4th Gen Echo. Plugged it in, set it up , and it was the Same Thing ...."Sorry, That Device is off Line". Now, though, the 4th Gen (which I do not like as much as the 3rd Gen unit- it's Ugly), did at least Recognize and Pair to BT devices. It would play Music via the BT devices, however, if I disconnected the BT device, told Alexa to stop and then play Spotify form the Echo, the same response. I finally heard from a Supervisor via Email that Amazon has recognized that this issue was World Wide. I use android phones, it seems that there is a Glitch in Amazon/Android software. FF, after obtaining the 3rd Replacment Echo with the same problem (after being assured by an agent that problem has been fixed) I returend that and bought a 4th Gen Echo Dot with Clock. The same thing occurred. After posting on the Amazon Device Community Forum, one poster responded that he had encountered the same thing. Frustrated by thie Sudden occurrence,he tried his wife's Apple iPhone and had no such problem. he surmised it was Software driven. Then in ealry May, just as sudden, I tried it again, and It was Cured!! The Echo 4th Gen played Music form the unit as commanded. But that did not last long. FF, I returned the last 4th Gen Replacement and got a 2nd gen (Refurb unit) and use that for now. Here's the Kicker... If I select music on the App on my phone, a pop up window comes up , asking which device do I want to play it on (I have a Old 1st Gen Echo and an older 2nd Gen Echo Dot - both od which do Not have this problem), select the bsement Echo and it plays. Then if i commend to play soemthing else ... it Plays fine??? orry for rambling. This was a Sudden thing , from one day to the other in March. Has to be a software issue IMHO.
