    I believe it’s a ferrule or ferule. Thanks for your video by the way. It’s just what I needed.

    Been putting this off, but it was time. Did this fix today, along with replacing a lost guide wire while I was at it. Thanks for the how-to!

    Thanks for the instructions. I was sick when my shaft fell out. I took it to my local Shihl dealer (Ace Hardware), and they were clueless. Comically enough, I had just replaced the sleeve on my brush cutter attachment a few weeks ago.

    I've been through that a few times. Stihl dealer usually charges me for a new shaft. I also have had the bottom crankshaft cover screws back out. Now I know what to order for those bow pins in the end of the shaft. I started with a KM130 fifteen or so years ago. Thanks for the video.

    Too much heat generated by the metal ferrule against the plastic bushing. Stihl should try and incorperate a ball bearing set up and some clips on either side to keep it from happening so frequently. Than again the current setup is cost effective and for a few dollars and 5min you can fix problem yourself. Tell Stihl to call me. I'll engineer it for them 😂

    Awesome Stuff, can’t wait to tryn remove the whatchamacallit 😂 i’m curious if you’ve dealt with a Kombi that the shaft components (head/coupler/motor) seem loose?
    The motor and head are constantly out of alignment and I can literally spin the motor with my hands 😮 but I can’t find a fastener that needs tightening?

    The best line ever "Out pops my shaft, and hits the floor" - well man your wife's a very lucky lady! - BTW, there's far too much orange going on in that workshop, I'm surprised you can find the Stihl!

    After I took apart the FCB-KM curved shaft edger gear-case to pack it with fresh grease, it took me forever to get the female opening of the gear-case back onto the threaded drive-shaft of the main silver steel curved tube. The drive-shaft did not seat dead center when coming out of the curved silver steel tube. I finally got it to connect, but I don't know if it's completely seated into the square connection point of the gear-case square opening to receive the drive-shaft. That is bad design, because it's almost brand new. They should've made a grease port bolt like other Stihl and Echo equipment.

    Thank you 👍 Had a KM-131r for nearly four years of every day use (Gardener). I wore the driveshaft out on it where it meets the clutch housing. Put a new driveshaft in it and sold it. Never had the sleeve break. But, a newer machine has only done a bit over a year and this has now happened? The bushing bit you remove looks worn and that's before bashing it out. Did yours not look damaged? Also, did it bash it up and mark it putting it back in?

    Super helpful video. Thanks! Do you know if that ferrule is sold separately? (the thing that you have to knock off the shaft to change the plastic sleeve). I'm only seeing it as a part of the shaft assembly and that costs an arm and a leg. Thanks!

      Did you figure this out?

    • @sidvalluri1702
      @sidvalluri1702 Před 7 dny +1

      @@USFmarine Unfortunately not. The ferrule is aluminum and deforms very easily. Knocking it off dented it when using the pliers trick. I used sandpaper and polished out the dents. When putting it back on, I put a bigger nut on top of it to take the impact and was able to put it back in place with less damage. I polished it before and after putting it back on as much as I could. That seems important as it is a rotating part against plastic and any roughness will act as a grinder against adjacent parts. They need a better way of holding it in place. Some poor design issues all around, especially using flimsy plastic in a wear component exposed to friction and heating. In the thread someone said they had a stock of ferrules but not sure where they got them as I wasn't able to find them via Google. The overall process of taking out the rod, greasing it and putting it back in place with a new plastic sleeve worked perfectly. So the video was most helpful. If this plastic sleeve fails again, I may epoxy a thin stainless steel washer of the right size to the bottom of the sleeve to act as a wear plate.

    The bushing is worn out because it was not greased from the factory ,there’s a video out there from a Canadian guy ,so as soon as you buy a new one take it apart and grease it ,jimmy Aust ,Carl you still never greased the plastic bushing

    • @Carlsmower

    Can I continue using the shaft if it slips out?
    This happened to me. I think the bushing broke because I used the trimmer head without a bearing, thus forcing the drive shaft to work harder.
