Brilliant video and probably better than you realise. I've been a Walker for decades. I'm an ex Royal Marines Commando. I've also done Kinder Scout a few times too.
The thing that annoys me with beginners, and some who class themselves as advanced walkers, is that they lose respect for the environment. When you go for a hike in remote places, you should be prepared to spend the night. You dont know when an accident will happen. You should always carry a first aid kit and know how to use it, comms, and decent quality kit against the weather. This is why you have a lot of kit and 'mess'. Great video. Lovely scenery.

    • @RambleFamily
      @RambleFamily  Před 4 lety

Thanks Jazz :) I think it's something that people learn along the way. I used to just take a small daypack when I went out hiking, but know I understand the environment and landscape better and never go out without some essential items - waterproofs, warm clothing, map and compass, phone, small first aid kit, food and water!

I've just gone through and binge watched all of your videos - absolute dreams and I love your filming style. I could watch you both all day! Infectious smile and energy.
I did a trip through the Alps with my pooch last year but didn't get half as much hiking done as I'd have liked. Trying to keep topped up in the UK until I can afford to do another escape. Haven't touched the Peak or Lake district yet but I've now planned a January trip - inspired by your videos!
Thank you and please please keep doing what you're doing. Hope to see you out on the trail one day!

I well recall many years ago driving 'opp from London to Hatfield and camping at the foot of Kinder to an overnight teriffic thunderstorm. Next day on Kinder in the mist all the peat gullies were full of water making a straight line compass bearing impossible. For sure there are few places like it but we made it safely to that lovely pub on the Snake Pass for an evening meal! Happy days!

Hiya...used to be a regular walk of mine - stayed at Ollerbrook barn and the Edale Old Parsonage with Jane, dozens of times ...a couple of decades ago - she used to charge £7 per night and we used to enjoy a beer together with John, her partner - utterly loved those days :) - having had a great walk over to Kinder downfall, I would hop, skip and dance a jog down Grindsbrook booth, bouncing from boulder to boulder in the evening, with an ear to ear grin and on to the Ramblers for fine traditional pub grub and ale. :)
Also camped at the farm field along by start of Jacobs ladder, upper booth farm, opposite old phone box? - spent one night trying to hold my ridge tent down as relentless driving rain and light gales had aspirations of launching the first canvas ISS :)
Loved your music as always - I am building a bit of a Spotify Indi Folk collection myself now :) - Feel free to send me more links from your collection :) ---- Somewhat different...but just been listening to Gilmour / Floyd at Pompei (czcams.com/video/CiXNIjGX1hY/video.html) on youtube.....since you love soul moving music...take a listen, after a wee slurp or preferably two, in a darkened room, fire and candles lit, rain falling on the window....mmmmmmmmmm

happy hunting ground'. However in thise days it was all completely trackless, I had to use a compass all the time. Thise stone slabs maring the Pennine Way were't there, all you had was a line on the map. It was all good training for my move to NZ where there is an enormous amouht of very wild country and compass skills are very necessary. Nevertheless, you have taken me back to my roots! well worth the extra bit to kinder downfall, but navigating the plateau in those conditions is tricky if you are not used to upland moors in limited visibility. Nice video, I love walks like this, sure views are nice, but the quiet solitude of the world ending in mist 20m in every direction is amazing, with rock formations looming into visibility and fading away behind you.

i wonder if any of you can help, there was a place we visited on a school trip back in the 80's that ive always wanted to revisit but could never work out where it was exactly,
first part of the day was in buxton, looking at some kilns, then a short coach ride to a working farm museum that was the start of a walk, right behind this farm it went straight up in to the hills, then there were wooden walkways around waterfalls set in pretty deep chasms then it finished going down in to a little village.
didnt appreciate it back then, our only school trip of the year and we go look at kilns instead of going to alton towers! would really love to go back and see it with adult eyes.

The weather was the same on the day we did it. A very heavy downpour just before we descended Jacobs Ladder seen us finding shelter till it passed over. As l said before the weather didn’t dampen our spirits or take anything away from the raw beauty of this magical place and like you both we ended the day with a drink in the pub sitting by the roaring fire till it was time to head home. I loved your video Athena. I've been walking on Kinder for 50 years now, it's one of my favourite places - I love the peat groughs. My usual route is up Grindsbrook, I'm a sucker for a nice bit of water. I'll give your route a try over the next few months. I find It's always easier going up Grindsbrook than coming down it, Ollerbrook Clough looks fairly easy coming down. Thanks for the video, I'll be looking at the others. Nice music too.

Great video, I love your choice of music. When I saw the contour lines so close together on your map, I worried you might fall off a steep cliff in the mist. Glad you made it safely.
I did smile at one point though with a headless Harvey stumbling along in your wake, giving his comments.
It might do more for the poor man's dignity if you pause for a moment to let him address his remarks to the camera before resuming the walk. 😂
Lovely scenery though, those Tors are quite impressive. As you were walking along the paths I couldn't help but be impressed by the effort that must have been made to lay those stone slabs.
Congratulations to those that did the work, you made a wonderful job of it.
I look forward to more of your wonderful videos in the New Year. Health, happiness and prosperity to both of you. God bless.
    Steven.
